- In this video, Dr Mike explains how NSAIDs work! He discusses the role of prostaglandins in the body and how different NSAIDs like aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, and coxibs target enzymes called COX-1 and COX-2 to try and stop inflammation, pain, and fever.
He also outlines the relevant side effects for each type of NSAID.
Your videos are the only ones I actually enjoy watching to study. Actually, it’s less about studying and more about stimulating curiosity, appreciating how cool the human body works, and that great feeling you get when you finally understand something that has gone over your head before. You’re the best, Dr. Mike!
You are master in explaining the concepts.
This was probably the best explained and most useful information I have watched in the past month on youtube. Thank you🙏🏾.
i study pharmacy n i watch these videos everyday for three years now! thank you is not enough!!!
I'm not going to lie, I'm not too big a fan of how the new videos speed up when you write. One of the main reasons I love your videos is because the buffer time of explanation and writing, helps me process. Now that it is sped up, my mind doesn't have, what used to be, a beneficial processing time. Just thought I'd throw this out there incase I'm not the only one.
Good to know!
I agree. Great video otherwise.
Dr Mike!! You’re awesome! Thanks for breaking it down and making it easy to understand. I appreciate you and your team!

Hello sir, I am an engineer by profession and have nothing to do with medical science. But currently I am on a journey to get fit and muscular, and your bio video really helped me to understand the human body.
I have a question to ask if you can please answer.
When and why my body decides to use which energy source to fulfill the calorie needs. In other words when my body decides to burn fat , when to burn carb and when to burn protein for daily calorie requirements. And If I am in a calorie deficit, what will my body burn first and how much
I wish you were my uni teacher. Please upload more about pharmocology❤
I wish i could like a thousand times yoi are very educative
very helpful for me thank you so much.
Thanx you are great. ما شاء الله ✨
Great stuff - what is the reason for the reduction of platelets from COX-2? Flush the wound to clean before clotting sets in? Also, why the fever for trauma? For infection I always thought body was making it's own environment hostile.
Wait, wait!!! What about acetaminophen?
Nevermind. From wiki ☺️ Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is also a COX-2 inhibitor almost exclusively within the brain, and only minimally in the rest of the body although its not considered an NSAID since it has only minor anti-inflammatory activity.[3][4
Thanks for explaining NSAIDs, doc ❤️
Very educative
Loved it ❤
Thanks 🙏🏻 from India
Thanks
Crazy good video
Great job 👏
Thank you! 😃
Great video.
Thanks!
Good content!
Thanks love from India ❤
Superb explanation 👌
Nice content and first comment ☺️
amazing
I was under the impression COX-2 works to dilate renal vasculature. Please clarify.
OMG you are great❤
would someone mind explaining why COX-2 has platelet inhibition i thought when u get injured like a cut platelets are important to prevent blood from leaving your body. Did i misunderstand?
I am confused, why coxib is the one needed to have a dortor's prescription before you buy it, while the other NSAID has no need prescription, where as you said first few names of NSAID mention are dangerous on other function of the body.
Sorry for my english.
I Hope this could be answer. Why?
I found that Meloxicam is classified as an COX-2 Inhibitor. Since Coxibs were banned, I assume that Meloxicam does contain some amounts of COX-1 Inhibitor as well?
Omg You Are The Best Thank Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Pls can u upload a video on the Krebs (TCA) cycle plssssssssssssssssssss😩😩😩💕
*wonderful name huh*
what your thoughts on using NSAIDs to treat a muscle strain (such as a lumbar sacral sprain) - because I've read different research articles on this, some saying inflation is useful for tissue repair, while others saying reducing inflammation is better overall for healing
Hello sir I am from India.
Iam a MSc Renal Science and Dialysis Technology student.... And i need your help .
pecs are very distracting dr mike. had to keep going back to re watch certain parts as i was getting quite distracted
Can you please add subtitles in videos🥰

Hi, I wish you could do better on your sliding filamet video. It is so extremely frustrating to see the same "explanation" repeated again and again whem it obviously doesn't work at all.
Your video explains why the myosin and the actin filaments slide together and hold ONE TIME, resulting in a minimal contracrion of the muscle. It does however NOT explain why this process could happen repeatedly, resulting in a further shortening of the muscle. Once the myosin and actin detach, the filaments are pulled to their original positions since there is nothing mentioned that would hold them in place.
I’m allergic to them 😢
but who want to block cox-2? block healing...
All these cause of inflammation
I have no idea what you're talking about.
Hi. Life and everything in in is created by God himself. The son of him, Jesus, forgave all of all things. Breathe in air.
Dear CZcams, please offer a way to filter Australians out of my search results. I am willing to pay your monthly membership fee if it is offered with the membership.
Thank for this incredibly necessary and profound comment.
I didn’t think my accent was that bad 😔
Sickening is what you’re.
@DrMattDrMike, certainly not! From the US here. Just found your channel today as I am desperately searching for something, anything to help with unbareable 😢pain and nerve pain in my that started from a bad dental injury in my early 20s. I since lost my teeth due to severe to me and my elderly parents by an extremely narrarsist sister. On gabapentin, hydrocode, and gabapenentin. Not helping. If there was a way to burn my nerve endings, I would.
