I think most addicts think they use because they want to, and interpret that as them not being an addict. They don't necessarily see how it is ruining their life, because it's all they know.

Unfuckingbelievable. I just listened to the WTF Podcast with Mencia passive-aggressively saying that he had held back people from inflicting bodily harm on certain individuals throughout the scandal and then I hear Bobby telling the story of his cousins intimidating him in his dressing room, demanding that he go back on what he had said about Mencia’s joke theft.
Mencia was well known as a coward though...he made some comment about roughing up Joe Rogan and everyone laughed at him. Rogan back then was a pretty tough guy and well known for it.

for me, being an alcoholic for a long time....the only time I have gotten help that worked was when my family wasn't mad, wasn't hurt...they weren't disappointed..... it was when they started to feel bad for me. it was when they 'understood' and just stopped fighting and accepted my alocholism, I realized that they weren't filled with hatred but love. they weren't hurt and filled with anger... they were filled with worry about me and pity for me.
it motivated me to change and I've gone a year at a time without a drink. I cant say I dont drink but, as an example, I'm having one tall boy.....not the case of beer and a 5th of 151 in order to 'be normal'.
now that its not a big deal with them.... just them hurting for me.... I have nothing but motivation to change my life and have reduced my drinking, slowly and the proper way, while increasing my work ethic so I can be back to the man I used to be.
you lucky you got a good family bro. ..... most families just turn their back on you once addiction reaches a certain level.

Bobby lee is a piece of shit and a coward. He is ON film on Rogan's vid agreeing that Mencia steals. Then he put out a video COMPLETELY RETRACTING that. Why? Because he didnt want to be dropped by his agent or kicked out of the comedy store (both of which happened to Rogan). Watch Rogans video, and then watch, if the coward didnt take it down yet, Lee's video "Bobby Lee sets the record straight" So f him. I lost ALL respect for him.
@@tellurye Bobby was protecting his job and trying not to get blacklisted while he was still trying to be an established comic. Also say what you want about Carlos, but Carlos really looked out for Bobby while he was struggling to get established. Joe was already well established both from being a well respected stand up and actor. Joe blindsided Bobby in that video and bobby didn't even know they were filming till halfway through and instantly showed he was uncomfortable with the conversation. Joe could survive being blacklisted from the Store but Bobby could not. I dont like what he did, but calling him a piece of shit and a coward is grossly unfair.
The advice Bert is giving is AMAZING for someone who is on the road to becoming an alcoholic. For someone who is already an alcoholic though, it is impossible and medically dangerous to stop drinking immediately lol. I know because I had seizures and spent 10 days in the hospital and another week at home on detox medicine, and my hands were still shaking when i tried to stop by myself. Don't do that to your friend lol, get him/her help.
@@davidbentacu5842 I've been to rehab for both opiates and alcohol unfortunately on separate occasions. I won't say which is worse, but they are both different and quite horrible. Alcohol withdrawal is easier to ease with medicines but if they are not willing to give you the medicine you need in the amount you need, it is a special kind of hell. I will say that without a doubt kicking alcohol is the scariest.

@@BackgroundDude Alcohol, and anxiety drugs in the diazepam family, both can result in fatal withdrawal symptoms if not medically managed. Barbiturates also had this issue, but they are very rarely used or prescribed anymore.
yea, the only way to go through withdrawal "safer" is doing itin the hospital where they can check up on you 24/7. took me 10-15 days in the hospital and a year to recover from the numbness and tremors.

Jake it takes far longer than 4 days to leave the body. There can still be traces left in your blood/liver up to 7-8weeks. Speaking from experience dude, 4 days into my last detox I was still spewing alcohol out. 4 weeks into it, I was still sweating it out my pores.
If I remember correctly, Jay always said he "bought" the Tracy Morgan story from Bert, because Bert said he told it better and made it a lot funnier. Then when the story got bigger, Bert said to stop telling it, and Jay told it on a Showtime special. Bert seemed cool with Jay telling the Tracy Morgan story until Joe had Bert on his podcast and convinced him what Jay was doing was shitty. I was listening back when Bert was on Jay's podcast early on, then Bert started hanging out Joe Rogan and going on his podcast. Not taking sides, just how I recall everything going down from an outsiders perspective.

I haven't responded to this garbage accusation for years. Here goes. Bert asked me to do the Tracy story so he could see it. "You do it. I can't do the impression. You do it." Manager of Irvine Improv, Dan Godfrey was sitting at the table when Bert said it. 2nd show, Bert: "I'm leaving right when I get off so open with the Tracy story so I can see it. We toured together for over a year after that and it became, per Bert's urging, a part of the show. THAT is what happened. Rogan told Bert that was stealing. That's the entire impetus and soul source of this situation. If ANYONE sees my lie stand up they'd see I tell long rambling stories about *ME*.
Bert is someone I loved very much. He was at my wedding with his wife and both daughters. I paid him out of pocket because he deserved to have more $ then what the clubs pay openers. My ACTIONS were consistently helping my friend. It's sad to lose a friend. Especially because of the opinion of someone else. Bobby feels he betrayed a friend. I was betrayed by a friend. I never taught Bert "to protect me" that's absurd. NEVER would I tell any opener that they work FOR me. Ask Ralphie May RIP, Dr. Ken Jeong, Nick Swardson, Tom Segura, Billy Dawes ... I take pride in being a good friend to comedian friends. BERT "IT KILLED ME" Someone share this sentence with Bert. - BERT THE FIRST TIME YOU HEARD THE STORY WAS BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME TO DO IT. The accusation has hurt me financially. Still does. At least a dozen comments a day on social media "Mencia Mohr" or "Who'd you steal that from?"
For a camp of guys (Rogan, CoCo Diaz are a couple) who preach "Respect" and "You don't fuck with a man's money." they have never responded to my requests to be on any podcast to set the story straight. I know who I am. I work my fucking ass off to give audiences stories that are entirely unique and personal. Ten years later I am doing them in front of much smaller audiences. So Bert can go fuck himself. To go on a podcast to talk about a friend stealing is classless. NEVER has a comedian been spoken about negatively on Mohr Stories Podcast. I won't allow it. Bert can go fuck himself and so can Joe for negatively affecting my ability to each as many people as possible who need a break from their concerns. This just isn't true. Fuck you Bert and shame on you. I am not a topic. I am a guy who did everything in my power to get you seen b y more people. From opening for me and telling club owners you should headline for them to Last Comic Standing. I know the truth and this just is not the truth.

I’m a seasonal drinker. I drink more in the summer. I like sitting in my backyard listening to music drinking, I slow down when it starts getting cold and started doing sober October as well, and pick up hobbies. I started oil painting this last sober October and I still love it.

Mohr always seemed like a fun and chill dude, but he sounds like a dick to work for/with and that's shitty of him to steal Bert's story and claim it as his own. Then there's Mencia, who is basically blacklisted and completely despised because his stealing of jokes was pretty egregious, but he treated Bobby super well and was a totally cool guy to work for/with.
FWIW regarding Mencia's thievery: Shaffir's claim to the joke, "you can't ban Mexicans because who's going to build the wall?" was bullshit; it was an obvious-as-fuck joke that literally everyone thought up. The Cosby steal, though, was obviously ripping off Cosby's bit because it was like textbook plagiarism; they only replaces one or two words. Instead of Cosby's receiver, it was a quarterback.

F that predatory producer m-fer, I know these guys have to talk nice about him because they run in the same circles but what he did was jacked up. It must be a very complex thing to have juggled this whole thing in his mind. On one hand the guy made him who he was and changed his life forever but on the other hand Mencia was stealing and its a terrible thing. It's never easy telling a friend they are wrong and I see the conundrum he's feeling. Even Bobby has a hard time putting it in words.
He needed to just say straight up to ned that theres countless videos on youtube that prove it without a shadow of a doubt. That he gets that he feels like if he admits it that it would mean that he is admitting he not only stole but that he has been lying to everyone and himself.

I just love the comedy community. How they've been doing it so long they all are on a first name basis and are friends that look out for each other. They aren't all super gorgeous and glamorous like other celebrities. They look normal and act more down to earth. Them ribbing each other reminds me of me and my friends just shooting the shit. I know its not all like that but their are a lot of them.

@@jpablo700 I tried suboxone before but the only way I could actually get straight was cold turkey. I just abused the drugs that were supposed to help me get clean. AA and NA meetings really helped me too. I go to meetings 5-7 nights a week and the gym every morning by 5 am. It took a while but I just found a routine that doesn’t give me enough time to use and people that help keep me accountable.

Bert is such a revisionist. I've heard him on Jay Mohr's show, in the early podcasts, admit to Jay that he gave him the Tracy Morgan bit!!!! Offered it up to Jay because Bert could not do the Tracy Morgan voice that was pivotal to the joke. The problem was that the whole joke hinged on the very last line, "And that's how you get out paying for the check, Jay Mohrs!!!" I think Bert was influenced by Rogan into thinking that Jay had stolen his bit and created a wedge between these longtime friends. Jay apologized, confessed to something that was not his fault. The only thing, Jay admits, is that he should have said, "This is a Bert Kresicher bit", but he couldn't say that before the joke, because the punchline is crucial to the humor, and it needed to be in the narrator's first person voice. Jay has talked about this over and over again. IT WAS NOT STEALING!!!! Bert gave him the joke! Instead, Bert, goes along with Joe Rogan's witchhunt to ferret all known joke thieves and lumps Jay Mohr with Mencia. Listen to Jay Mohr's Bert Kreischer podcast (still available) and he talks about the situation and explains everything. It's not cut and dried. AND KREISCHER ADMITS TO GIVING HIM THE JOKE!!! This broke Jay's heart. Bert broke up a twenty year friendship because Rogan was so adamant about calling Jay a cheater. I think Rogan is shit for never making this right.

Years ago I remember a joke that I heard Mohr and another comic do about why do we feel ok about using a bar of soap that everyone in your house has used in their ass and other nether regions. Mohr told it like a week after the first comic. I always wondered who stole who's bit or did they both but it from the same comedy writer.

My point is that he showed contrition many times to Bert Kreisher and Kreisher AGREED that he gave him the joke! You're point is right that the addition is frivilous, but he utilized Morgan's familiar emphasis of his name which made the joke sound legitimate. What made me upset is that Rogan fomented the break of two friends over a joke...it should have ended amicably.

Don’t get me wrong, being a standup is tough especially if you are female. The thing is in comedy, just like any other profession is that people that should not be famous are and visa versa. It is what it is. Not a bad thing but as you get some know;edge you realize popular does not mean good. It means something clicks and you probably worked very hard.

Appreciate it! Im all good. I cant say i had a severe issue with alcoholism but i came close to it. I seen some of my family members ruin themselves and it gave me the realization i was going down that same path. Depression didn’t help.

They chose to do something taboo, you should not be held responsible for their mistakes. See loyalty is sticking with your boss and make 20% less money, rather than starting a new job with a minimal increment in pay but you don't know the guy. My step dad tried to stop drinking cold turkey, two days later he was white as snow, skin was almost transparent, came home early from work (first and only time he left work in 8 years I lived with him) he passed out and woke up in the hospital, Doc asked him if he was a heavy drinker, old man was truthful about it, Doc sent the Nurse to the gas station and literally told him take one these a day, beer in hand. My old man hated himself and the drink, this thing had altered his body to the point his whole existence would end if he didn't have it, it was as crucial as air and flowing blood. It broke his heart, if you can stop without dying it ain't got ya yet, you don't wanna live like that, waking up every morning nursing a beer like a nest of vipers at your breast, with a can full of something you hate and need to live, something that is killing you keeping you alive and drawing out a slow death. They said there was a medication he could take, but if he drank again he would die, not a sip but a couple oz and he shuts down for good. He was to scared to take it, the booze is gonna kill him one way or the other there is no escaping this. If you still have a way out friend, take it.
