4 Essentials for Every Catholic
Vložit

- In a previous episode ( • Have You Mastered the ... ), Fr. Mike said that all Catholics grow in the same “soil” together, but the fruit we bear is unique. But what is this common soil? What are the essentials for every Catholic Christian?
During the Easter Season, we read from the Acts of the Apostles. In Acts 2:42, we are told what the soil is made of:
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
So there are four elements in the soil:
1. Teachings of the Apostles: Magisterial teaching of the Church, Sacred Scripture, and Tradition.
2. Communal Life (Fellowship): It’s not just me praying to Jesus. We need to share life somehow.
3. Breaking of the Bread: This refers to the Mass, not just eating together.
4. Prayer: There are so many ways to pray as a Catholic, and so many awesome prayers. You can pray the Liturgy of the Hours with the Church, or in your own words, or both. But to be in the soil you have to pray. For a great Liturgy of the Hours app, check out iBreviary (ibreviary.org)
God wants us to flourish in faith, hope, and love for him and for others. He is the one who makes us grow in holiness, but in order to flourish we have to be nourished by the soil he gave us.

Not me, he seems mentally unstable. It would be uncomfortable to watch him fall apart in a live situation.
Love being catholic ❤️ who else?
Catholic and proud ❤️
We are an Easter people and ALLELUIA is our song!!! ☘🌷🌼🌻💖
What Else Is There...? 🙏♥️

Love being a Catholic is one thing.
And living up-to it is another thing.
Wish as Catholics our lives spoke more than our mouths.
God bless.
1. Teachings of the Apostles - learning from them and the Magisterium of the Church (Dogmas, Doctrines, etc.)
2. Communal Life - it's not just Jesus and me. Develop relationships within your Church, serve and be served.
3. Breaking of bread - go to Mass as often as you can.
4. Prayers - individual or group prayers. Prayers can take many forms.
I’m not a religious person, but lately, I haven’t been able to stop thinking of the Virgin Mary. I've become highly interested on all things Catholic, I wonder what it could all mean.
c L I think Mary is helping to bring you to Jesus. I would start praying the rosary and asking Mary to help you get close to him and to help you understand why you’re thinking this. God Bless ❤️
c L You are being drawn to Catholicism to my belief, as the other guy said start praying the rosary and also pray to jesus if you think you are ready get baptized 😃
c L I love Mary she's amazing! She is trying to call u to Gods church you should look into Catholic apologetics if you're unsure and try praying the rosary or praying a novena. Feel free to ask me any questions if u have them. God bless 💜
c L Try talking to her and ask her about your thoughts. She listens, intercedes, and helps us to find an answer. This month, May is Holy Mary's month. We, Catholics venerate her by making an altar and praying the Rosary daily. Some of us pray the Rosary while driving, standing on line (while keeping social distance). Perhaps, you should do that as well. God bless!
I am Vegan and a Buddhist. But lately I have been drawn to Saint Francis of Assisi because he was the patron saint of animals, and from there to the rosary, and to Mary, and now I too am interested in all things Catholic. .... also just wondering what all this means Lol ! I’ve spent the whole day today researching everything Catholic!
THANK YOU!!!! I was one of the ones asking! I’m am becoming Catholic and want to build good habits. ❤️
Welcome! Congratulations!
Yes, welcome to the family
I did the same a year ago and it's been wonderful. Welcome home!
Welcome home 💛
Wonderful! Welcome! God bless you!
Father- you have brought me back to my faith and I am no longer ashamed to be a Catholic. Keep up the good work.
The bible and the Most Holy Eucharist are two of the most beautiful treasures the Catholic Church has.
Fr. Mike is an amazing priest and speaker. I always learn from him. We are truly inspired by him and his insights help my family when we started our ministry as we go on our missions during our first years. Our episodes are a fruit of his homilies. We love his preaching gifts. We are truly blessed that he continually says "Yes" to our Lord.
JOYFUL HOPE TV try father Mark Goring. He’s awesome. I listen to him everyday.
Karen Stempkoski Yes! Agreed! Fr. Mark Goring is a truly amazing! He isn’t afraid to speak the truths of our faith. We need more shepherds like him.
@@bluebear7061 Yes all these priests we are listening to are Holy and speak so well. However, I find that the Bishop Fulton Sheen tv videos are among the best we can learn from. Bishop Sheen was literally a genius who used his talents to teach us about God and his church.
Gotta say, the videos from Fr. Mike on this channel have been phenomenal for me. Was raised Christian but turned away from God/The Chruch around age 14. Twelve years later I felt spiritually dead within and very lost, well before the whole epidemic. Finding these videos has helped so much in getting back into consuming God's word, praying, and surrounding myself in content that promotes the Lord. And it feels pretty good!
The way I see it, these four essentials can be seen to reflect the four marks of the Church:
"One" - Communal life
"Holy" - Prayer
"Catholic" - "The breaking of the bread" AKA The Eucharist
"Apostolic" - The teachings of the Apostles/The Magisterium
It makes sense that this would be our "soil", since they are a bedrock of our Creed.
This is probably intentional and maybe even obvious, but just pointing it out! :)
AMDG
What a great way to break it down and remember it!
I would switch the Eucharistic as "One" and communal life as "Catholic" but it's very good.
Or the 'four pillars' of the Church. The apostles' teaching corresponds to the 'Creed' or what we believe. Communal life corresponds to the 'Commandments' or how we live Christian lives. The breaking of the bread, of course, corresponds to 'Sacraments' or how we celebrate our faith. And prayers are self explanatory (obviously corresponding to the 'Prayer' pillar.
😲😁 at least it’s NOT like a blank cereal box🗳🥣, but words of truth from our holy scripture 📖🔖
Lord May bless us all with health & prosperity.
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! IVE NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT IT THIS WAY
Good or bad days is good to listen to father Mike God-bless .
Our former pastor, who is basically retired now, taught the church how to pray the LOTH. Now he and my friend are also teaching me how to pray it. Our priests lead it in the mornings before daily Mass and at the Adoration Chapel in the evenings. I *love* those prayers. I am so looking forward to getting back to all of it again. Thank you, Fr. Mike, for all your wonderful videos.
P. Mike: Your videos are effective in motivating us to the spiritual life. It would be beneficial for thousands of people if their videos had cc in Spanish.
Please everyone who sees this give to your church if you can in this time of need donations are way down and they really need it
Father Mike you have wakened me from Covid slumber. Thank You. Many Blessings

Thank you for your good soul and teachings of our Catholic faith. I was a lost lamb and I chock up with tears because Jesus is completely in my life . I can get enough of everything about him. Mother Mary and all the angels and saints .
Thank you for having answered that need that was put on the spot during that previous video! Please keep on this every few videos, the basics of what we intend to be as Christians, the basics of our spiritual lives as prayers, education, and so on. God bless us all
Thanks Father Mike, love you!
Been learning a lot Fr Mike 😃

God bless you Father Mike
Thank You Father
Absolutely Excellent Fr Schmitz
Very inspiring 😃
Thank you father 🙏🏽😇
Thank you Father .
I feel sadness at the moment that I can't attend my own Church here in the UK, due to the pandemic. Can our Catholic Churches even survive this horrible period? Each month I give the same amount of money I give in the offertory through online banking. I hope everyone else can look into doing the same so our churches can be waiting for us all when the lockdowns are lifted. God Bless!
If the powers of Satan will not prevail against the church, then the Corona Virus doesn't stand a chance. These are hard times but please, keep the faith! God Bless!
It will be stronger. There are a lot of people, like me, who were reminded of what is truly important during this time.
Thank you, Father. Your message is powerful and compelling.
Thank you Fr. Mike, Praise & Glory be with our lord in Christ's name.
thanks for answering about what the basics are Father.
Dear Father Mike!
Thank you very much for hearing us in the comments of the last video and making this one.
God bless you! +
Literally so glad you made this video because I was seriously wondering what the “soil” needed to be...
Really good!
Almost not first 😜 -thanks Father Mike & team for all you do!!
Yes!! God bless!
1. Teachings of the apostles
2. Communal life
3. Breaking of the bread
4. The prayers
So true Father thank you
I love when you read from the bible. Thank you.
The thing I liked most in this video was Father Mike saying something along the lines of, “I don’t know,” that we will have to figure out the way forward. It was endearing. He had me.
How blessed are we to be chosen to be HIS children ✨🙏✨
Thank you for waiting until Fr. Mitch's live show on EWTN was finished!
I truly love your utubes. God blessings and love please remember me in prayers 😃
Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Thank you Father Mike for everything that you do for God and the church you are so Awesome and an inspiration to so many of us , God bless you and your loved ones.
Ivonne Medrano (Mathew 23:9 )
I love my God and His body, The Church, I follow the Teachings from my childhood. I thank God I received a sound and True foundation from the Baltimore Catechism of the Holy Catholic Church.
Loooove the old wasted Bible that Fr Mike holds
I literally stopped the video at 5:09 and searched for the app and prayed the evening liturgy of the hours hahahah. Gonna start doing that now!
Wow! How awesome is this video? I JUST got my LoTH 4 volume edition books in the mail yesterday. I'm excited to get started (think of how a child frolicks through a field of bubbles). Now, where to begin? Lol but Thanks, Fr. Mike for all your videos!!
One faithful priest!
Thank you for your explanation on the 4 essentials Fr. Mike. May God continue blessing you with great insight. Your recording camera seems to be in a high speed mode, this time. God bless! 😇
You guys should make a video on losing a loved one... a lot of people are losing their grandmas and grandpas to corona virus. I lost my grandma today. I could definitely use a catholic video about death/grief
This is such an amazing video! Thank you so much for providing so many informative videos! I use them all the time in my Theology classes, my students love them! :)
Dieu est amour, merci
I love this. Sadly we aren't that close to people in the parish. I'm not sure how to build communities in this day and age, I have so many different friend groups.
ME TOO!
As a well english speaking german I have to slow down Fr. Mike to 0.75 speed in order to understand him properly :D
Love your videos!
As a person who lives in the Southern part of the USA, I understand!
@@MoogieB Ditto here :)
Same here :)
Thank you so much Father Mike. I was having quite a rough time a few weeks ago. I was having doubts about religion in general. I was panicking and it was really scary, but that’s when I found this channel. It sparked my love for God again; although I’m not baptized yet, I’ve begun to get more involved in religion. Do you have any advice on what I should do next? I feel like I’m not ready to be baptized, but I want to be working towards that.
The communal life part is something that is lacking in about 90% of Catholic church's I've experienced, or maybe out of the the only real communal life consists of old/older people. The other 10% actually do a really great job for all ages. However, my experience with protestant churches is that almost all of them do this exceptionally well for all ages

Keep to sport coat on. Respect your viewers.
Pope Paul VI said the Liturgy of the Hours is CHRIST praying in His Church! And praying it really feels like that!!!
You look good in the Sport Coat Father Mike 😎
Fr Mike, thank you for all your spiritual direction. Can you please discuss how we can be at peace with taking our love ones out of life support? Thank you so much and God bless you always.
ngl this video is fire...
🙏🏻
I have never clicked on a "no views" video before! Good message
Reading the bible for yourself is the most important thing. Key passages get skipped over due to self interests. Truth sets you free.
Hello Father Mike Schmitz! Could you do a zoom talk with our youth group for 20 mins or whatever you can Friday at 6:00 p.m. We love you and we could get many people to listen. You are in our prayers :)
Jesus Christ the teacher
I love being Catholic 🙏
❤❤❤
Universalis app is the best for the liturgy of the hours etc!
Hello Fr. Mike. Can you make a video on praying to spirit of the saints? Asking this because in one of your video you said that praying to spirits is a sin. Big fan! 🤟🏻♥️
Be not followers of men (or their religion), but be a follower of Christ Jesus the Lord
On-time delivery is the soil!
Thank you Father Mike for all you do. You have helped me with many of the questions I have about Catholicism. One thing I notice in your videos is that you say "oh my gosh". Just wondering if this would be considered blasphemy. I'm confused by some of the other Christian youtubers out there as some of them would say it is. Maybe you could do a video on the things we are allowed to say and those things not allowed - if you haven't done so already. Once again, thank you and God bless!
Amen. Pray for me please I want to receive to Eucharist.
Why can't you?

Not yet confirmed. Baptized Catholic as a child. Grew up protestant and now returning Catholic.
So many ways to pray - at certain times of the year, or any time of the year, our wonderful Church has different devotions, chaplets and litanies - there is something for everyone and something for every one of life's challenges and seasons. To name a few: The Litany of St Kateri; The Stations of the Cross; The 15 Hidden Tortures of Jesus; The Angelic Crown of St Michael; The Novena to the Sacred Heart, the Immaculate Heart, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Holy Spirit (or dozens of other Novenas). There are literally thousands of saints who are patrons of just about everything from barrel makers to archers to firefighters to athletes to dancers to bakers to procrastinators and you name it there is a saint for it! The wealth of the Catholic Church is all there for everyone's benefit. God Bless all.
