You asked for it, so here it is - my review of the new Orcs and Goblins rules and how they stack up compared to some of the strongest army books the Orcs have had previously. Once more I will be using highly technical SCIENCE!!! to break down the core elements and see how much WAAAARGH energy they pack in to each edition.

Always a pleasure to see your enthusiasm. Although I do end up feeling tired just watching you. Still an interesting overview.

You're quite safe with buying a goblins / orcs army; they will NEVER go away and they can always be modified as proxy's if things change slightly and I write slightly because you cannot diverge much from the archetypal orc warrior with spear, axe, sword, shield, armour etc.
That's why I just bought a massive orc / goblin Warhammer The Old World Orc / Goblin army before the price hike early June 2024.

I think it may be the best ever. Also one day Ben you're going to spontaneously combust on one of these vids! 😆- Luke

Yeah, I think in home brew, I’d tone down goblin impetuous.

I definitely prefer the older army books for their ample pages and beautiful artwork, but I also like the arcane journals. They do feel thin though.

I think the new old world books are really good although I do miss the 5th edition bestiary for adding monsters.
I’m using the troll horde list and find it very limiting, some odd choice limitations seem just mean; like no night goblins which blocks people from directly porting across their loon army from AOS. And despite their troll horde example army photo including a rock lobba, the list allows for 0 warmachines.

The main list allows you to run all the Night Goblins you could want and all the specials that go with them, most of which have been given a boost. You can get an all Night Goblin army from that (great) or a Black Orc & Night Goblin army excluding normal orcs and goblins all together. If anything the rules encourage you to do that and even to use war machines/chariots/cavalry as the only things involving 'normal' orcs and goblins which is great competitively but absolute rubbish in terms of giving the army a real feel . Best thing about Troll Horde and Nomadic Waaagh is that they give more of a reason to run orc and goblin armies that actually have orcs and goblins in them. And plenty of trolls in the case of the former of course and who doesn't love trolls?

There was also the 2006 edition, they brought back the spider riders. Just flipping through my old army books now.

I always liked the cover of that one. I feel like the orc on the cover must have been thinking "Oh what a lovely day!" As he rode out to slaughter.

I believe the spider riders were technically in 6th, but only as part of one of the 'back of the book' optional list variants.

@ 16:00 Night Goblins in the new rules actually *do not* have Impetiousity. Its just Orcs and (common) Goblins.

As an O&G player I'm very happy with the new rules. I am disapointed that they removed Anismosity, they gimped our unit champions and WAAAGH! totally missed the mark - and I have no idea why they felt the need to restrict Savage Orcs as hard as they did. But those complaints are largely overshadowed by everything else we got and gained. Love that AoS Boingrot Bounders are supported, love all the weapons choices on Trolls, , love the access to new magical lores - not just WAAAGH! magic, love the new options on Boys like throwing spears and skirmishing.
Bows on boys being free seems like an oversight though, means there is no reason to bring regular Orc Boys - with or without shield. Every choppa boy is a arrer boy now.
I do wished they had given Night Goblin bosses the option to take a Chain Squig so that we could properly proxy Skarsnik - like they did with Ogres, where they gave Butchers access to a Cauldron so you could play your Skragg the Slaughterer mini still. Perhaps they still got plans for a Night Goblins focused Arcane Journal, with the Colossal Squig and Squig Gobba still missing.

Hi! One question. Why you said 6th/7th ed armybook about 6th ed armybook? In 2006 there was armybook that is dedicated for 7th (with different cover) and im pretty sure its not expansion of 6th (for example points slightly differ here and there, squig herd rules changed, spider riders returned, squig hoppers are unit on their own etc) but i might be not knowing something or missing something that you know :) cool video overall!

Glad you enjoyed the video! There was indeed a 7th edition codex but for a long while after 7th edition launched, the 6th edition codex was still the existing codex until it was replaced. Sadly we didn't have the 7th edition codex long before 8th launched, but also I tend to think of the 7th edition codex as being more of a tweak than a complete change like the 6th edition one was from the 4th/5th edition one.
If you enjoyed this, check out the Bretonnian and Tomb King ones I've done, and keep your eyes open for a Dwarf one just as soon as that Arcane Journal launches, unless I can get my hands on one earlier.

I think you are subject to Shiny object syndrome (SOS), so far you´ve ranked every the Old World book as the best ever, but in all honesty, I wasn't too impressed by this one, the loss of animosity alone should put it down quite a few notches, also it may have more fluff than the 6th edition book, but it's nowhere near the 4th/5th edition book, 8 is way too high & the Waaagh factor is not an 8 either. I prefer the original book by far. Same with the Bretonnia which you ranked too high as well imo. Agree with Tomb Kings though.
