Been married 35 years. Glad my wife is old school.
There is no good answer. I left an amazing corporate job with good pay. I left the job to stay home to have 4 beautiful children and support my husband and his career. I was an amazing wife. He had at least a dozen affairs, including 3 best friends and my sister, and said he would be sure to leave me destitute if I ever left. He eventually left me to marry my best friend after 27 years of marriage (she left him just before the marriage). I hadn't worked in 20 years, still had 3 in high school, and went back making $15 an hour after being very self sufficient making over $100k before. So there is no good answer. But I would never have changed a thing by my gift of having my four beautiful children.

@yourstruely thank you for this comment. I am african and raised as such. In my culture women are basically born then trained to be wives and mothers. You're considered an outcast by family and friends when you have children out of wedlock or remain unmarried so marriage is considered the ultimate goal. I've also seen men abuse this culture by creating misogynistic,abusive and manipulative relationships which women put up with all in the name of being and staying married. Even in perfect relationship husbands die, leave or get injured and cannot work anymore which creates a huge issues if the wife had never learnt a trade or something to be able to provide for herself. Let's stop bashing comparing or saying there is a one size fit all relationship and just celebrate when someone find the right kind of love and partner they need.

It goes further than this. Women will dedicate themselves to almost anything outside of their home. She will treat a personal trainer like a boss. A friend that asked her for help. A scene she parties in. Anything but the man she lives with who is asking for her dedication.
I worked for my family. Farm and construction. Dad, mom, sister, me. It was not a job, it was survival, a living. My sister got mixed up with bad people, men didn't like me, and my father died. So, we lost it all. A good man sure could have save it.
I always found it funny that women will never give up careers and education as their back up plan in case the man decides to leave, but clutch their pearls at the idea of a prenup because that's exactly our backup plan in case they leave. Never get married. Leave these women to their own devices and let them die alone.

Similar to the realization I had. That was the fact that I, as her husband, was always the last one considered for anything. It was her parents, her friends or coworkers, the neighbors, or any random person, the dog then me.
When my opinion was asked the answer was always checked against that of another and mine would never be considered the correct course of action if anyone disagreed. To the point I started getting pissy telling her "don't ask me because if Joe Schmuck has a different opinion, you'll do that. When it's wrong you try to act like I didn't do enough to convince you I was right and the other person was wrong so don't (effing) ask me."
Oh! I was advised not to waste money on a pre-nup. Horrible advice!

With all due respect, no. It does not take two paychecks. My husband supported our family of 6 while I was the homemaker for 15 years. In SEATTLE. Spend less than your income each month. That’s it. We bought used cars, an older home, new shoes and clothing on sale and our kids did not have their own room. So what. Now they’re in their 20s and thankful mom and dad kept the household stable and solid. I loved our house being the one all the kids gathered at.
And no my spouse did not have a “rich” position. No college degree and always blue collar jobs. Work ethic and no stupid debt!
