According to the Cambridge Dictionary, the word ‘gambit’ is defined as ‘a clever action in a situation that is intended to achieve an advantage that usually involves taking a risk’.
During Operation Acid Gambit, a disastrous rescue mission that was only supposed to take four and a half minutes and be one of the opening operations of the 1989 US invasion of Panama, Delta Force found themselves in a situation so sticky that it was sheer luck, rather than tactical gambits, that got them out alive.

Achievement Unlocked: Delta Flawless - Complete Operation Acid Gambit without losing a Delta Force operative
So this what inspired all the 90s action flicks
I still don't see how this isn't a movie!
@@OrganizedChaos396its because of that one scene where the delta almost got beheaded by the rotor blade.😂
Fun fact, this is Delta's first 'official' rescue mission. Eric L Haney describes 2 earlier black rescue operations where a single Delta shooter on 'advisory' role had to directly intervene, to bring the missions to success- 1 in El Salvador( or was it Honduras), and the other in Sudan. On one mission, the sole evidence of it ever being conducted is a signed bible given by the grateful missionaries to the Delta operator for the aforementioned rescue- which allegedly on display along the 'Spine hallway at Bragg.
The Legendary Larry Vickers was one of those Delta Operators🙂
The original Larry Legend🇺🇸😮💨💯
What really ?
@@LeDiamondDog yea he talks abt it in one of his older videos and there also was a documentary abt the Operation If I remember correctly and he was in it too
Unfortunately he is in jail now for importing some russian guns without proper permits mumbo jumbo. Kinda ironic the country he spent his life protecting locks him up for that bs.
He's apparently been arrested. He served his country and this is how he is repaid.
Fun Delta (CAG) fact: the Unit is so elite that even though it's an Army Tier 1 asset, it has the freedom to hand-select the occasional Navy, Air Force, and Marine personnel to join if they think they're good enough. The standard Delta pipeline is Army infantry > Ranger School or Green Beret (Special Forces) > Delta.
Not Ranger school, RASP, Ranger school is just. A leadership school, it doesn’t make you a Ranger. RASP is how you become a special operations Ranger
Didn't you just do this yesterday.
Ohhh i see you went back to fix your lil slip up. Good work im glad you are willing to put in extra work to correct small mistakes.
Not going lie sounds like it could be a call of duty mission
Fr
Yeah, like one of those mission when saving captain price in gulag.
Remember that one mission where Menendez got captured by Noriega?
Well, Noriega is actually a real person and sued Activision for that reason.
I would bet all cod campaigns missions are spec ops mission in RL
@@iiwhite-shadowii9215Honestly, that's a pretty good theory. Let me break out the old tin foil hat.😂 So let's say they are real missions. I don't think the gravity of the missions like a nuclear bomb going missing are the kind of missions that would be happening in real life? So I feel that part would be changed. It's more than likely intellectual property was stolen.
So they have to go get back that information. Is or vice versa steal information from other countries or other companies. Pretty interesting thing to think about.
Didn't expect this to be redone. Thank you for correcting the errors.
"Everyone had survived the mission" except all the dead people on the other side.
We don't count those numbers, lol 😂
🤣
This video is so "Gambit"
Communist are not people
The drug runners?
Anyone asking about this being a reupload its because of the fact the previous video had said the delta force guys thay had rescued them were navy seals amongst *a few other inaccuracies

Probably just auto correct.@@GathKingLeppbertI
@@GathKingLeppbertI yeah auto correct

Thanks for re-uploading. Appreciate the extra work
That was a very interesting explanation about one of the most successful operations carried out by Delta Force and the one where they redeemed themselves in the eyes of the US Government. Well done Simple History, well done. I'm glad the hostage was saved and got to see his family again.
great content mate you actually inspired to me to create my own history channel as i just find your videos so fun to watch
Good job on the accuracy of the rifles. They are correct for the period, and for the people that used them.
I love this type of content
“Don’t you know she’s coming home with me, you’ll lose her in the town. I get high. PANAMA! PANAMA!” Van Halen
Oscar: Nobody makes a move without my ok, I’m the Panama Canal.
It's about the car though
It's always helicopter problems for Delta
You said more about this mission in 10 minutes than any (1 hour) boring tv documentary I’ve seen on the same operation - you cram so much info and action in a short space of time. Well done, great stuff.
Hello ur vids are super splendid
My lifeguard coordinador was a PDF soldier at the time, he fought against these guys and survived, sadly he lost 2 close friends during the battle, he was shot in the leg in the firefight
This should be a movie, 😎👍
Re upload?
wasn't this uploaded yesterday?
I think the issue was that the original conflated Delta Force and Navy Seals
They did however there was a mistake with literally calling out the unit that was there in the rescue mission. He was calling them Navy seals instead of Delta Force. Delta Force and Navy seals are different worlds and also different branches of the US military such as Navy seals are for the Navy and Delta forces for the US army
They kept referencing the Navy SEALs who weren’t involved in the mission
Nuh uh
That's classified
My grandfather done got his noggin clobbered
Wow what badassery these guys displayed under constant pressure from the enemy!
I'm glad to see the errors were fixed
From someone that lives in Panamá I've never heard of this story actually, but glad it was successful, no one here apart from a couple fanatics really miss thid dictatorship, the whole country was on the streets against it.
Hey simple history do you think you could do a video on the Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009
I’ve been a huge fan for around 5 years
Simply History D'oh! It happens to the best of us.
Very good video

Reupload?
Guessing corrected for all the mistaken references to SeALs.
they fucked up certain details last time, like calling the operators SEALs when the were Delta Force
@@gus7850 They also screwed up the names of the Delta operators
@@Autobotmatt428 right, that was the other thing they messed up, they def dropped the ball for that one
You gotta do Operation Nifty Package.
Make this a movie.
There was a movie they made for it, I forgot the name though. I only caught the last half of it.
I really appreciate you guys jumping through your butts to get this corrected version uploaded quickly. I know that wasn’t easy to get turned around in 24 hours but I’m a super proud subscriber as a retired Army NCO myself. God bless you all, my brothers!
Hiiiii I'm new I'm going to subscribe ❤🎉😊

No wonder people say that the crews of Little Birds have the biggest balls of steel in the entire American Arsenal.
Voting on a unit video on MACV-SOG
What happened to the delta video before this?
straight outta a movie
Simple history you should do a video about Aarne Juutilainen aka the terror of Morocco this guy has a story that would make even Rambo impressed
Re-uploaded?
I tought i watched this vid yesterday
Same here
yea and they fucked up because they called the operators SEALs when they were not.
Legends will know this is an upload of yesterday’s video.
Uploaded 2hrs ago? I am sure this was uploaded yesterday or a few days ago already
“No plan survives contact with the enemy” - Field Marshall Helmuth von Moltke
Huh, they actually went back and corrected their video, good on yah Simple History
The missed opportunity was the other prisoners who could have caused enough mayhem to aide the operators escape.
The Helicopter crash feels like Call of Duty
Is this a redo after calling delta guys seals in the previous video
Hollywood should make a movie about this
Why'd you remove the Delta Force video?
He was a cia operative this is why they rescued him
Now do a deep dive into School of the Americas.
Wow, is story is so crazy that it sounds like it came from an 80s action film!
Ello good viedo
you didn’t even watch it
What type of red dot optic were the operators running on their CAR's?
Probably Aimpoint 2000’s
Wasn't this uploaded yesterday too? Or am I trippin?
Yes I know I watched this yesterday
Hey, simple history here something you can look into and tell us a story Somalia 1993 Black hawk down
Why reupload?
Edited and corrected
Why did they use the Mh-6 and not the UH-60 "Black hawk" helicopter ?
The black hawk provides more room and protection than the MH
But the Black Hawk isn't as agile and permissive when flying in short spaces like rooftops and streets as the Little Bird.
What to risk the life of many soldiers for a single person
WASN'T THIS PLAYED YESTERDAY?
Imagen being one of the other prisoner hearing as they rescue just one guy and leave you behind
Did they change something? I thought i watched this yesterday.
Yep! No longer calling Deltas the SEALs.
Badass Pilots
Wow
i like this this history do another delta force mission history from somalia in mogadishu blackhawk down
Balls.
RIP Alex Mason 😢
Surprised it's not a movie.
Two words: Dale Comstock
Didn’t they make a movie about this….oh wait. That was another delta/160th operation.
I saw this yesterday, is this a corrected version?
The wiki say only 5 panama guard were killed, but here it seems the whole prison guard were killed who is telling the truth.
Well wikipedia is known for lying and being not trustworthy so i think this video is the real deal
Unleash their loads 😂 WHAT!
Which call of duty game have this level again?
Black Ops 2, I think
@@justryan6480 ah yes ı remeber the mission that we try to capture raul menendez
The operator getting knocked out from the rotor blades was due to jumping on kurt to stop him from standing up into the blades accidentally. The skids were collapsed putting the rotors at head level and kurt was dazed and was attempting to stand up. Theres multuple accounts of exactly what happened so im not sure the reason for the misinformation hetr
What happened with old thumbnail?
It's been edited and corrected
I feel like I’m playing Black Ops 2 again
The misson suffer with me
I noticed they changed they title of the video and took out delta. 😂 since at the end of the video they mention seals in the first version.
Mission failed successfully
Mission completed successfully. Combat plan failure leading to improvisation. One of the more useful skills noted by our British allies in Europe during WWII was the ability to improvise.
The Mission was to get the guy out and they did so mission succesfull

Hi.

Yet you would think we Panamanians would learn…. We are on the same track as we once were. Panamanians want everything free almost like the sense of being great and wanting more is suppressed again. Glad I have the opportunity to be American and a Texan! Won’t ever go back sadly…. Although I’m proud of the USA as well as being a Texan unfortunately the US is going down the same route but Texas is holding it down. Aside from politics it’s crazy how we see communist, socialist regimes fail time and time again yet we let it happen time and time again just sad.
🇺🇸🇵🇦🆚🇵🇦
I don't know, but this sounds likes killing 200 people for just one person, don't know how someone is gonna be abled to say this wasn't unjust.
Im still confused as to why the Panamanian Military fell apart so quickly. They didn’t even experience a US shock and awe operation like Iraq did in ‘91. And they had some very decent chances of Inflicting defeats on the US.
The PDF are not a professional army. The PDF is more like 1/2 military and 1/2 police. Their equipment are not standardize and training are poor. The Iraqi army ranking is No. 5, after US, USSR, China and India during 1991 due to its size and equipment.
The PDF was the strongest Army in central america however by the time the invasión began it was completly disarmed after Giroldi coup de etat, Morale was non existant, high comand absent (only captains and below did show leadership) and the units that fought pretty much relied what they had on hand since the armories that kept the heavy weapons we're locked behind a key by Noriega orders since he was paranoid of a new coup attempt that was on the works weeks before the invasión
@@yutakago1736The PDF was profesional but there was nothing they could have done against a bigger and tecnological advanced enemy
@@SniperFallen06 So Noriega shot himself in both feet Huh. Guess that’s what happens with these types of coups.
Also, Nicaragua was stronger, since they Received Russian tanks, Attack Helicopters, and Radars in the 80s
@@tetraxis3011 In general terms we we're stronger for size, training and weaponry, however the lack of Tanks and attack helis do make a difference in firepower, the PDF was like South Korea, strong enough to defend our borders but not enough to attack and project outside, Nicaragua was quite worm out after the civil war and needed time to recover from those wounds
Larry Vickers brought me here.
