This is how it works:
You start on one of the four spots. These will be considered as even numbers, which is why I made them zero. The board is now

Now, we add the five odd numbers, so the board looks like
1 0 1
0 1 0
1 0 1
Just to clarify, 1 represents an odd number/emoji, and 0 represents an even number/emoji.
From there, he has you move four spaces which has you going from an even number, 0, to another even number, 4. This means you will always be on the same starting 4 emojis.
He eliminates the monkey as there is no mathematical way you would be on it, AND it sets up his "guess" in the future.
Now, the board looks like
1 0 1
0 1 0
1 0
From there, he has you move 5 spots, and since 4+5 equals an odd number, you will always land on one of the emojis on the corners or center.
Because your on an odd, he eliminates another even emoji on the right, setting up the end on the left even further.
At this point, the board looks like:
1 0 1
0 1
1 0
Now, he says to move 2 spots. 9+2 is still odd, so you still cannot be on any of the even spots. Because of this, he eliminates the smile.
He also doesn't eliminate the fire, as that would cut off anyone who had their finger on the camera.
The board looks like:
1 0 1
0 1
1
He now has you move 3 spots. This gives you 11+3, which equals an even number. This means you can't be on any of the odds.
He eliminates the poop and camera as you can't be on them, and it narrows down the selection without cutting off anyone. This leaves you with only 4 selections.
The current board position:
1 0
0 1
Now, he has you move three again, which again switches you back to odd, as 14+3 equals 17.
This means you can't be on either the fire or the dog. He could eliminate the fire or the dog, as it would work not matter what of the two is removed. But he can't remove both, as that would remove all available spots to move, meaning he would only have a 50% chance of getting it right.
Anyhow, he decides to remove the fire, leaving the board as such:

Finally, he has you move one space. 17+1 = 18, which is even. As there is only 1 space left that is even, that is the only spot you could be on.
From this information, he eliminates both of the odds, leaving one space left: the dog.

The trick is if you paint a 3x3 board like a chess board you'll notice that every move you make you'll enter either white from black or exactly opposite. What this means is if you make even number of moves you will end up in same coloured square, similarly if you make odd number of moves you will end up in opposite coloured square
Edit: So if you make even number of moves, he will eliminate a different coloured square than the starting square. If you make odd number of moves, he will eliminate different coloured square than the starting square.

How this works: imagine a chessboard pattern. You can only move from white to black and black to white in the same move and thus using that, they can eliminate a square of the type that they know you won’t end up on.
For example, you start at dog and you move to demon, (black to white) and they know you aren’t on a black tile and eliminate the dog.
Basically, odd number of moves makes you change the tile colour and even makes it stay the same. Sorry for confusing explanation.

This works because:
Let’s say you assign a number to every emoji on the 3x3 starting grid, from left to right. The corner emojis and center emoji will be even, the starting spot emojis will be odd. Let’s separate the emojis into 2 groups. Odd and Even. You start on one of the odd emojis. As you go, he tells you to move a certain number of spaces. Since you cannot move diagonal, every time you move a space, you are on an emoji of the opposite group of the one you were previously on. 1. you're just using a sorta well known trick reformatted into emojis
2. just because im not on a space doesn't make sense you removed it, if nothing was deleted i would've been able to finish on the fire, but im being restricted
3. this is impossible to resist, the trick is built around using even and odd (like a checkerboard) there is an even number of odd movements, and if you're not on the first 4 tiles then he can just remove any of the 4 tiles until only 1 is left, and during that remove some odd tiles, forcing you into top left which is next to end.

Think of the 3x3 grid as an actual grid of squares and every square is either white or black colored in order (for this I will say the corners and middle are white, the rest are black)
Basically when you move you will end up on either a white or black colored square depending on how many moves you made. If you make an even number of moves, you will end up on a same colored square, and an odd number of moves lands you on the opposing colored squares only. He only removes the squares that are not the color your on, meaning that unless you did something wrong, you can't actually be eliminated. (For the first move you start on a black square and end up on another black square, hence he only removes from the white squares, a.k.a the middle and corners only, you can calculate the whole game to prove this is correct)
