  • After 105 years of printing the Star-Telegram in Tarrant County, the final press run at the Edgecliff Village printing facility will be Saturday night. Changes in the newspaper business make the decision necessary to focus efforts on our growing multi-media platforms. I was a young union carpenter apprentice on the construction of this in 1985-86. Good memories.

I worked in printing for 28 years before our plant was shuttered. I've been in different industry the last 7 years. I miss the triple time on holidays (the only holiday we never worked was Christmas). I sure as hell don't miss the long, rotating shifts. I still have issues with sleeping from that. It's true though, once the ink gets in your blood, it never leaves. I still miss the presses and crews. I ran N9000, M1000 and Hantcho Mark 16 webs.

Thanks a lot, McClatchy. The S-T has gone nowhere but downhill since you took it over. I'm thankful I left when I did. It is indeed a sad, sad day. I've always loved the S-T but McClatchy ruined it.

I feel for these guys. It's sad when a plant closes...guys you've worked with for many years. They become a big part of your life...your family. Went thru it myself...it sucks.
