  • While I was at the Chrysler Nationals the earliest surviving 426 Hemi Engine block was there. This video shows the engine, its casting date, ID pad numbers, damage and design flaws.

    I remember when Jim and Stewart found that block over in Melbourne. Several e-mails went around to the old Hemi guys for information on it. It was featured in one of the Mopar Muscle articles years ago.

    Great information I've always loved Chrysler products now I have a painting a boat that has two Chrysler motors in it and I believe they're 318 I can't wait to listen to about those motors

    Awesome video. I noticed this block has notches cut on top of the bore like the max wedge. Do the production hemis have them too?

      Thank you and good eye. It appears maybe two of them on the right bank are not notched? The race teams using race hemi blocks using larger than the stock intake valves >2.3" notched the bores for intake valve clearance. There is some speculation this block may have been assembled and used by a Nascar or race team after testing for some purpose. That is just speculation and unconfirmed. Also, since this block was probably used for valvetrain function, maybe the engineers were experimenting with different valve sizes.

      The owner shows it at Mopar swap meets and shows, so it travels around.
