I NEARLY MESSED IT UP! First Lotus Emira Laps on the NURBURGRING

- It's time to get my new Lotus Emira out on the Nürburgring, and thankfully it didn't all go wrong! Having just run my Shelby GT500 around for the first time, the next Shmeemobile breaks its duck at the Green Hell, with some epic laps aside from one major moment...
During the drive over the Germany, the Lotus completed the necessary running in mileage and ironically, the very first time I'm driving it since that has been passed is literally down to the Touristenfahrten entrance and out onto the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Being a First Edition, it's the 3.5l Supercharged V6 with a manual gearbox, making 400hp, and in my case I also opted for the Sport Chassis setup with Michelin Cup 2 tyres.
With it being Easter Weekend, and therefore extraordinarily busy, we're lucky to get a few laps back to back, with some other great cars to drive with out on the world's most famous piece of tarmac. However, on lap 2, it nearly goes completely wrong.
Having hopped from the left-hand-drive GT500, and now sitting in the right-hand-drive Emira, my mistake is to be a little bit too far to the left over the jump and to have touched the kerb, resulting in rather more of a jump than intended - which thanks to sticky tyres and traction control absolutely saves everything from disaster. My point in saying this is very much that you always need to keep your wits about you, a small mistake can quickly bring trouble - thankfully in this case it absolutely didn't.

Sorry for not overtaking immediately in the beginning of the lap because I had no idea you were on your first lap ever in the Emira so I stayed behind expecting you to be much faster than me. I waited a bit after Breidscheid to let you pass because of the fast straights and film a bit for my channel as well trying to keep up with the Emira since I’m a Lotus fan boy… so after the carrousel it was time to move out of the way! Thank you for being so nice in the queue and I regret to not go for a second lap like you asked if I was going! Really nice to meet you! “Cheeeeers”

that was a moment, going about 175km/h and 1.5 lateral Gs, that Emira is quite the weapon. Seems like a great drivers car.

Car going sideways when youre driving straight is definitely something scary
The emira is like 60% weight on the back and that part of the track makes the back go light, so yeah, you always have to expect the car to go sideways on the jump because most likely you are still going left.
Shmee, so much respect to you for actually pushing these cars but also knowing your own limits! Keep it up and stay safe 🫡❤

I remember when Shmee started driving his cars on nurburgring many years ago, he wasnt quick and not so brave, this save makes me so happy because he is finding limit of his cars :)
He definitely isn't finding the limits of the cars, nor was it a "save", but he is improving slowly. He is doing his best and having fun, that's all that matters. Sometimes when you have no talent it can easily become more scary than fun. Just stay safe and practice, practice, practice and you are sure to get better.

There was nothing to save. Glad he didn't panic and do the wrong thing though. If he would have come off the road it would have been due to his incorrect input, doing nothing would have also "saved it".

This was probably one of your best videos on the Nurburgring, just watching you fight with other people, changing gears, and everyting was certainly more entertaining than for example your Shelby GT500 video, wich was soo good too, but you get the point. Nice one shmee, you drove like a beast!
Way to go pushing the Emira right to its limits 👏 once they get to the U.S. I will definitely be picking one up! Was fun hearing the tires squal through the corners!
The supercharger sound in this is perfect. Not massively in your face and distracting but you know it's there. I bet it sounds ever better in person screaming away behind your head.
Great video, love the Emira and the comment about the increased awareness needed when driving slower cars. Reminds me of the increased stress driving on motorways at 70mph instead of cruising on autobahns at 120 mph
Thoroughly enjoyed this one….driving the Emira around the ring looks like a challenge of skill and mindset and knowing yours and the cars limits. Much more enjoyable to watch than perhaps one of the much more powerful beasts.

Excellent job bringing us along with you during this inaugural Emira Ring experience. Camera angles are just right while your commentary adds layers to what we are watching and processing. As for the GT4, it may have had less to do with the Emira’s capabilities and more to do with the other driver’s experience with their car on track and willingness to take more chances.
You can see the amount of emotion and joy in his face and voice as he drives the emira
On a race day the Emira will be one of the most rewarding experiences. Making that perfect shift and hitting that corner perfectly is everything Lotus is about. It is very hard to do with traffic. You did an amazing job, Tim. 👏
I don't see many Lotus examples in my area, so it's always fun to see one in action.

Great video! Even though you said it was a lot more work, the expression on your face looked like you were having an absolute blast. For a stone stock sports car, it looked very composed out there, and you were clearly not babying it. Sounded great, but my ear kept wanting to hear another 200-400 rpm at the top end. What a great car. Got one on order. Really looking forward to it!
Well done pushing it over the jump! Despite the scare, it looked like the car handled it fairly easily, even if it was a bit of a brown-pants moment haha. Always fantastic to see cars like this driven as they were engineered to do, I have tremendous respect for collectors that really use their cars as opposed to keeping delivery miles.

That moment on the second lap, you could see the brief moment of fear in Tim's face. Also nice to see I'm not the only one that thought that French E36 should have let you past. I was actually a little worried that he was possibly trying to push it a little too much and he'd lose it in one of the corners.
