It looks like Wardley is finally getting his woodie at The Towers. I'm incredibly pleased for him as he is a legend of the theme park industry!!
I wonder if Chessington or Thorpe was to build a Woody if he would come back out of retirement?
Rollercoaster Rider Thorpe might just might get one but it’s Thorpe and well we know they aren’t the favourite child
But chessington is a no
Alton towers before : ‘’No wooden roller coasters because the GP think they’re too dangerous and we can’t market it’’
Alton Towers now : ‘’Let’s build a wooden roller coaster and theme it by wood and fire’’
AND just a few years later Merlin listened. The past (woodies) can be the future!
Little did we know, just four years later, a woodie would be under construction at Alton Towers. This video makes you realise how far we've actually come.
If it wasent for John Alton towers would not be like it is today one of the top 5 theme parks in the uk n my future work place
John Wardley is... Well I can't even find the right word for him!
Exactly *****
nice to see 4 years later john's work has payed off. bring on sw8
I love the idea of a haunted circus themed coaster that sounds fantastic to market, and the standing idea sounds ace as well with the excavated hole drop, that would cover all the thrill bases in my opinion.
I wish I could design rollercoasters it's easy to use your imagination, and with advances in tech these days the possibilities are endless
Love this man !!!! Great video !! What a Legend !!
john is a genius
Interesting vid. That woody over the valley sounds amazing!!! Thanks Shaun
Cheers for sharing, very interesting.
Love how he recognised you at 17:08 - brilliant:P
I'm really pleased to hear an honest and frank opinion from John, I'm glad he isn't convinced by gimmicks making a ride "good". I knew about the Alton and Thorpe woodie ideas, but a standup in Katanga Canyon, that sounds fantastic.
thankyou for this vidd, realy amazing to listen to john talk about building woodies in the uk, hope he gets the chance to build one soon!
The smiler was a huge turning point
He is an absolute legend
Love that man !! He is a legend !!!
This was so fascinating to watch. Like others have said, it is so wonderful that Merlin are FINALLY building a wooden coaster after all of John's pleads and failed plans. It is going to be an exciting time for British theme parks, and what we need after the past few years of not great events (ride closures, cut backs, theme park closures like pleasure island). I can't wait to ride the new woodie! I would've liked to hear John talk a little more about the dark rides he has designed too, but I guess this was a coaster convention. Fantastic video anyway :)
It sure is great, thanks for watching!
Theme Park Worldwide thank you for reply! 😊
Rachael8989 and of course not forgetting I called in at Pleasure Beach next year as well.😃
Such an inspirational man!
So jealous of you Sean, being in the presence of greatness, can John just make his own UK theme park already, where he doesn't have restrictions from Merlin
Btw, your arm must've been killing holding that camera for so long! #howmuchyouliftbro? XD
He is a great guy and very down to earth which is awesome!
shame to see such a legend retire. Sincerely hope this doesn't mean a downfall in quality, interesting thrill machines...
I think retiring in general is hard to do without feeling any amount of regret/bitterness. At least he retired on a high.
So glad his vision became a reality in the end
John Wardley = Legend
John Wardley, Werner Stengel, and Alan Schilkie=
The 3 coaster legends
so happy now that alton towers is getting a wooden coaster
Wow I would love to ask questions to a legend
I wonder if we will finally have the chance to ride a woodie at Alton towers. Love the channel Shaun.
We will do next year!
Legend, would love to meet him! where was this?
I want his book
Still not sure whether I would like a hardcore coaster invasion of Katanga, I like how cute it is as it is. A lil' flat would be nice though.
*goes off to get better at NoLimits* ;-)
roller coasters are like cheese they sometimes improve with age but some just go rotten and mouldy
found his autobiography very intersting and quite funny in places
epicnesssssssssss
No one saw sw8 a wooden coaster coming back then
I have this feeling that Alton or Thorpe Park will be looking into Rocky Mountain Coasters because they look safer than your standard woodie, especially since the boom in the US of Six Flags and other parks building and converting woodies.
I can't think what the next coaster could be after SW8
Wing Coaster (No due to height limit)
Woodie (No because the last coaster was)
Steel (Most likely but overused at AT)
Inverted (Maybe)
Drop Coaster (Doubt it because of Oblivion)
Flying (Unlikely but possible)
Launch (Likely because we only have 1)
Spinning (Hopefully not, And no due to Spinball)
Pipeline (John wouldn't dare)
Anymore coaster types? Reply to this comment!
All else i could think of realistically is a Watercoaster or one of the robotic arm coasters, with it being a branch of the chained oak or something.
Well I got the idea that since all of the thrill coasters and family coasters are in pairs (rita is beside th13teen, galactica is beside nemesis, oblivion is beside the smiler, spinball is beside octonauts) that the next coaster would be beside the wicker man and have maybe a pirate or adventure style theming. Of course this may be just pure coincidence but you never know. As for what type of ride it would be maybe a terrain multi launch coaster that stays low to the ground and maybe underground, like cheetah hunt at busch gardens. It would take a lot of space on the ground but it wouldnt go above the trees. Also I dont really know where they’d put one since the smiler as john said kind of took up the last area you could have a large thrill ride in the park.
Im a member of the RCCGB and I suspect that we will get the same visit
Six years later and my guy is still liking comments
I am watching this for 13 min. Then I realise it is you Tpww. Hahaha oops.
Where is this filmed? And that idea of the horror woodie I want that to happen soooooo bad!
And sw8 is a woodie WOO
The rccgb got that and more.
Who's watching in 2019?
Alejandro Garza I am
@@attractionshubno1 me too!
An Intamin pre-fab woodie like El Toro would be amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The smiler is amazing, but i think a stand up coaster in katanga canyon would be better
You can hear speed in the back
Except the marketing could really use the record-breaking inversion.
Who’s watching this in 2021?
@HarshMan911Yo Actually, he was involved with the good ones. He didnt work on Th13teen much, he didnt really work on Rita either. He built the BEST rides!
4:58 CAD Existed in the early 90s, Drachen Fyre was designed with CAD in 1992
16:54 Sounds like Oblivion
19:37 Dragon Khan beat the record by 1, Colossus beat the record by 2
@Digital Electronic Creative I'm sorry my typing was too loud for you.
I wonder what SW8 will be now that John has retired.
+music joe12 We will find out soon!
Galactica!
CORE Group Galatica is not a SW
Shit! John Wardley Master Race!!!!
yes it is. it is the first flying coaster and the first coaster fully dedicated to vr
18:02 if u listen carefully, somebody died
Can't John take Merlin to Heide Park to show how a Wooden Coaster can be awesome?
Why does it keep saying on wikipedia that Werner Stengel designed Oblivion and Nemesis when it's not true.
Legend, would love to meet him! where was this?
