How exactly would you have wanted to express yourself in Jamaica? Genuine question. You seem quite passionate about having had to “deny yourself...” and not “owing anybody anything” which is admittedly true, just as nobody owes you “acceptance.”
I think when he says "acceptance," in the Jamaican context, he really just means "tolerance"-i.e. just don't attack them, discriminate against them, or drive them out of society. You don't approve of their "lifestyle"? Fine. But leave them alone. You think it's a sin? Fine-but leave the justice to God.

Good Documentary however I feel one important factor that was missed out is the psychological impact that slave masters and buck breaking had on people within the carribean. This PTSD has had such an impact on the homophobia levels within Jamaica and should not be missed. People aren't homophobic 'just because'

Yes, you can identify gays. Not 100% but you can. Many of them move like women, speak like women and so on. Some of them you cannot, as in this vid, but on the whole you can. A good friend of mine used to chill out with me in Amsterdam and for about 6 years. One day he said because his Chinese background his parents were putting pressure on him to get a girlfriend. I said, I'm married with kids and would have no problems being his wingman chatting up women. At this stage in my life I'm not afraid of being blown out by women. The following week he called me, we went for a meal and he came out with it. He told me he was gay. I was shocked, truly shocked. Never once did I suspect it. Told him I hope our friendship would continue, but after he came out, all he talked about was gay this and gay that. I realized the friendship could not go on.
