I was a batboy for a AAA team some time ago, and was in the clubhouse when a pitcher got his first call up. It was incredible to see a young 20’s guy jumping up and down, excited as a kid on Christmas morning. That’s what it really looks like.

A quick search suggests smelling salts have ammonia in them. When I was a kid I was in the laundry room and was curious about what ammonia was. So I opened the bottle and took a whiff. It was like getting an ice pick shoved up my nose and into my eyeball. I can imagine that'll wake you up if you're woozy.
