  • Deserved Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich - Operation Anthropoid - Lidice Massacre - World War 2. Reinhard Heydrich was born on 7 March 1904. In 1922 Reinhard Heydrich joined the German Navy and in 1931 he joined the Nazi party and the SS.
    Heinrich Himmler, chief of the SS, was immediately impressed with Reinhard Heydrich and appointed him the chief of the Gestapo which was the official secret police of Nazi Germany and the SD which was the intelligence agency.
    Heydrich was also a driving force behind Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass which was a series of coordinated violent riots against the Jews throughout Nazi Germany on 9-10 November 1938.
    It was also Heydrich who organized the Wannsee Conference which was held on 20 January 1942. The purpose of this meeting of senior government officials and the SS was to ensure their cooperation in implementation of the so called “ Final Solution to the Jewish question “ which was a Nazi plan for the genocide of European Jews during World War II.
    On 27 September 1941, Heydrich was appointed Deputy Reich Protector of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia which was the part of Czechoslovakia incorporated into the Reich on 15 March 1939. To exact retribution for Heydrich's brutal rule and to help confer legitimacy on the government-in-exile, Edvard Beneš - the president of the Czechoslovak government-in-exile approved the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. This assassination was codenamed - Operation Anthropoid.
    After months of preparations, Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš attacked and wounded Heydrich when he was being driven to his headquarters in Prague on May 27, 1942.
    The Nazis were desperately looking for the assassins and thousands of people were arrested. Soon after the Gestapo obtained a love letter which they incorrectly linked to the village of Lidice. The following destruction of the village and execution of its citizens occurred on June 9, 1942, on Hitler’s direct order.
    In total 340 inhabitants of Lidice were slaughtered - 192 men, 60 women and 88 children.
    In the end, some kind of justice was served. On 21 May, 1946 the People’s court in Prague sentenced Karl Hermann Frank, the Nazi Minister of State for Bohemia and Moravia who was among the top leaders responsible for the massacres in Lidice and Ležáky, to death by hanging. 7 surviving women from Lidice sat in the front row to watch without pity as Karl Hermann Frank was hanged.
    Although justice can never bring back the lives of the Lidice victims, it was only after Heydrich’s assassination that the United Kingdom and France agreed to dissolve the Munich agreement and return the annexed Sudetenland back to Czechoslovakia after the Nazis would be defeated.

    Reinhard Heydrich was a man of intensity. Intensely loved music, intensely womanized.. but most importantly was intensely scrupulous about his job. He bullied his way around the SS and ultimately became a feared figure.
    Just to put things into perspective, when Heydrich died no reservations were made for his mother. She died amongst the rest of the civilians attempting to escape Berlin, from starvation. All letters sent to him about his mother and fathers condition were dismissed by him prior to his death.

    • @balancedactguy

      There is even rumor that Himmler, when visiting Heydrich while he lay seriously injured quietly told his Doctors "Let him Die"! The fact that theSS Doctor that Himmler summoned did not use the drugs that may have saved him seems to hint at that. Himmler feared him as he knew Heydrich was his Intellectual Superior in many ways and getting rid of him this way was easy and did not implicate him in any way.

    • @eoinbarry8124
      @eoinbarry8124 Před 2 lety +5

      @@balancedactguy I’m not so sure. Himmler and Heydrich got on very well and always professionally. Heydrich was climbing the ladders in other directions. There was whispers in Berlin just before his death that he was to be moved to be governor of Vichy France. From my readings anyway Himmler and Heydrich held no skepticism about each other.

    • @balancedactguy
      @balancedactguy Před 2 lety +15

      @@eoinbarry8124 Well, Hermann Goering once said "Himmler has a Brain, It's called HEYDRICH" Apparently it was known Heydrich was smatter than Himmler. Any ladders Heydrich was climbing were in the SS so he could still have surpassed Himmler and replaced him. At one point I saw Heydrich held about 5 different important positions for Nazi Germany. I can't imagine Himmler badmouthing Heydrich openly, a man who accomplished so much, but that does not mean at some point Himmler could not have developed an insecurity about him, a man who seemed to surpass him in ability...especially if Goering took note of it. . Himmler was very aware that he himself, among many other Nazis, had NO combat experience in WW1, while so many others did! ....yet Heydrich, of his own volition, got Pilot Training AND participated in Aerial Combat. Something Himmler could never do. Heydrich was Smart, very Ambitious and could easily surpassed Himmler in time. Hitler thought SO MUCH of Heydrich he granted him a status that allowed him to talk to Hitler most anytime he wanted WITHOUT going through any channels to access Hitler (like having to make Appointments through Martin Borman first). That in itself, over time could be seen as a threat by Himmler. Had the War gone better for Germany, there was also talk that Heydtrich could have been named Hitlers successor even bypassing Goering. The fact that Himmlers doctor did not give Heydrich the antibiotics that may very well have saved him should tell everyone something.

    Their organisational skills are more hard work and fanatical determination rather than talent, just to propell themselves to the top.
    The proof of their loyalty, is to crush any opposition to fulfill the "intentions" of the Boss, even the unspoken ones!
    They are "ordained" family of all the ruthless whose works bring ruin murder misery and death to others as by magic!

      It wasn't an 'inferior' post. It was his job. As head of Gestapo he was tasked by Himmler to go to the areas conquered by the army and subjugate the populace. Included in that was elimination of Jews and Slavs, and anyone who was sympathetic to the Czech government and any resistance to the Nazi occupation. It was rumored he was to go to France next and do the same there, so it was good the Czech resistance caught Heydrich before he left their country.

Besides war, like murder, slavery and all frailties have been part of the human condition since the beginning of time! Remember, Earth is a punishment. Our natural place is in Heaven, NOT here! There have been incidents in the Bible where God himself was angered and killed many people! For example, Noah's flood and Sodom and Gomorrah! Besides, there were incidents throughout recorded history where I would claim Divine intervention. In the Revolutionary war, at the battle of Monmouth, a British soldier could have killed Washington, yet he declined........why? When the British burned Washington, during the war of 1812, out of nowhere, a massive hurricane put out the fires and sent them packing! During the battle of Midway, the Japanese #4 scout plane was delayed half an hour due to catapult problems. That would have been the plane on course, to fly a direct route and spot the Yorktown! Even when the scout plane got there, it's transmitter wasn't working so they couldn't send the information back to Nagumo's fleet! Coincidence?!! I think not!! So to the Heydrich assassination, as I explained in my original post, too was Divine intervention. God WOULD help the righteous. I watched a detailed TV documentary about his assassination , about 10 years ago; planned in Britain by Czec's. Although the two men were eventually killed and many Czec people were murdered, as a revenge. I enjoyed the discription of his long drawn-out painful death, in hospital, from bloody poisoning apparently, as he begged God for forgiveness for his sins.

    IT took along persistent period of, Time to finally end the Socialist Reign in the World at that time. IT is perplexing too study n think 🤔🤔 how Long it is for Mankind to see? Events come too a Fulltation, or a point! That was really foreseen a Good deal of time sooner. But yet they didn't see it as the time too Confront or End, that particular say Problem, by nipping it in The BUTT.

    In the End it was Good & Just that the Majority of the Criminals, left from The Third Reich, had to face the Judges, at Nuremberg like they Did. Whether or not those given Judgements we're Severe enough, too those Individuals? Is still being Questioned & Debated to present Day.
    In closing my comment, I would just say, that World War II, cost the entire World Like 26 Million Casualties World Wide from September 1939 - August 1945. That was Six years of Destruction. The Final straw was the Use of Atomic Bombs to finally, make the Axis Power's stop thier pursuit of eventually having, Mankind totally Destroying the Planet on which we Live Today.

      You're right. Heydrich did get Pilots training and even flew combat missions, once resulting in him being shot down behind enemy lines. After that close call, after he was rescued, Himmler himself forbade Heydrich ever to fly any more Combat missions. As a very important Government Official and one of the Highest ranking SS leaders though, I'm not sure if he was ever considered a member of the Luftwaffe, which technically would have put him under Hermann Goerings Command. In spite of being a Horrible Monster of a person, he did show bravery and a willingness to put his life on the line as a Pilot. That should have been mentioned.

      Agreed. British intelligence officials always made 'plan' with a sinister undertone. Unlike in Poland where partisans were active (mainly Communist) the Czechs were considered too docile. The PROBLEM was that the Krauts were known to be ruthless and due to reprisals in Poland the Polish government in exile eventually insisted that MI6 send a 'cease fire' order. Obviously what happened to Lidice was really BAD but assassinating Heydrich really didn't have a major impact on the overall direction of the war in 1942.

      Heydrich was commissioned into the Luftwaffe Reserve before war broke out and then took leave from his duties at Prinz Albrechtstrasse to fly combat missions in his personal ME109. There are very few photos of him in LW uniform but I have one in the Max Williams biography, showing him standing beside his plane wearing LW "Bluse" and "Schiffchen". After his plane was shot down behind enemy lines, he fearlessly made his way back to German held territory. When Hitler learned of this, he banned Heydrich from flying further missions. His reasoning was that Heydrich was too valuable in his position as head of the SD and the RSHA to risk his life and service to the Reich. Adolf believed Reinhard was far too cavalier and did not take his security sufficiently seriously.
