    I want to clarify what I said about "There was a lot of 4,000 nit brightness figures being thrown around" what I meant by this was that there were various outlets such as articles online published that were reading too far into the technology being the same as a 4,000 peak nit mastering monitor and assuming the TV would be 4,000 nit this lead to many people being convinced this was the case getting their hopes up but Sony themselves never once claimed the TV would hit anywhere close to 4,000 nits in fact all they said was it will be their brightest TV yet and that it would be 50% brighter than the X95L.

    • @Cenkolino
      @Cenkolino Před 21 dnem +1

      We know, KG. Some youtubers and outlets claimed the 4000 nits number although Sony never mentioned such a number. They always said "up to 50% brighter than the X95L". Which is nowhere near 4000 nits. My estimate is that it gets about 2400 nits at 10% / 1-5% specular highlights and 800-900 nits full field. Which is still very respectable. But the new TCL Mini-LEDs get much brighter. Albeit for a very short duration and they also max out at 2000-2500 nits after a couple of seconds.

      Yeah this had a dose of reality. I'm not a Sony fanboy , but i do like the attention to detail Panasonic and Sony bring on their mid to high end TVs. In this TVs favour, most of the critique is minor, and for most consumers, not even a problem. Anyone coming from LCD another mini-LCD , and older OLED will be well super happy with this TV. Some people already buy the likes of a Sony X95L over OLED , they are going to be ecstatic. Sony and even TCL/Hisense show that miniLCD is a viable option. But I still think a 83" G4 will have that extra sparkly star field and contrast. Again if TVs not side by side. the Sony would look WOW.
      Just buy what you want , just realise the G5, G6, S95E and Sonys Bravia 9 ( 2025 ) will be brighter and punchier again etc ( ie now Sony has the backlighting system, it wants to hit that 4000 Nits for sure next year )

    I am using that middle elevated stand position and it's great for a sound bar. We used the included plastic sound bar feet that you slide over the front of the TV's feet that lifts your soundbar off the legs and provides a stable place for it to sit. I have a very large sound bar and the two plastic feet covers has worked great - feels very stable. The feet are only slightly narrower than the soundbar's built in rubber feet anyways.

      @techsamurai11 Před 23 dny

      That is my concern -SDR brightness. I’m used to an Oled laptop with 800 nits full window. I’d take a Led over Oled. Contrast is invisible with ambient light but brightness is very visible.

    • @SpencersStuff1777
      @SpencersStuff1777 Před 23 dny +3

      @@techsamurai11 I can confidently say sdr, especially on full field bright scenes, sports, etc are pretty unremarkable in sdr. I have the x930e, and I can back off the brightness a bit to get deeper blacks. I realistically shouldn't need to do this with the Bravia 9.
      Here's the issue I run into... We have a great community of people looking at tvs, but some people see too many tvs, and some people have preferences. I'd give up that contrast for a much brighter picture. Personally, I don't think I've ever seen "true blacks" in real life anyway haha. I find the world has some little haze to it. I think led/mini led looks more real while OLED for most people looks more artistic. It's all down to preference.

    • @techsamurai11
      @techsamurai11 Před 23 dny

      @@SpencersStuff1777 Contrast is a bit overrated. Last year, Vincent Teoh showed off the A95L next to the reference Sony and it looked almost identical. The G3 didn't look any better.
      I have an OLED laptop that I measured yesterday at 800 nits full window (I thought it was 1,000) but it drops from 1,000 to 800 on the full window. It looks amazing but at the same time my 2014 Sony LED looks almost identical in 95-98% of the content and times. At night, the OLED pulls away in dark scenes but that's expected. Plus, it has a light sensor to make the image perfect.
      But in sports, daytime viewing, afternoon viewing, evening viewing, gaming etc, the LED is the same as the OLED.

      How is SDR with the A95L in a bright room? Can you watch tennis, soccer, and F1? I have an OLED laptop that does 800 nit full window and it's as bright as my LED TV in almost everything but I'm so afraid of getting a TV and noticing it's 300 nits or something. I returned my work AIO cause it was supposed to be 400 nits but was stuck at 75% brightness (permanently) which was 300 and I was going crazy at how dim it looked next to the old one (also 400 nits) so I asked for a replacement and that was 400 nits and I was ok with it. S95D will have the best reflection handling. I own an LG OLED and it gets VERY tiresome seeing yourself every time you get a dim scene.
      Black bars have reflections in them, any dim scene, not even just pure black
      The entire room shows too, not just the lights. It's great in a dark or dim room, but in a bright room it leaves something to be desired.
      The S95D will look glossy when viewed without a super glossy oled next to it.. but it'll have more even performance between light and dark environments.
      Like I said my daily driver TV is literally an LG OLED so no Samsung bias here.

Meaning the BRAVIA 7 will ideally have even less brightness and contrast than the flagship. Personally I would stick with the A80CL OLED, although if the risk of burn-in outweighs the benefit of infinite contrast then go with the MINI-LED BRAVIA 7.

      @betelgeuse68 Před 23 dny +5

      If you were expecting the Bravia 9 to have parity with an OLED in terms of contrast, that's not going to happen. But your S95D won't do 4000 nits, which won't matter most of the time for many, but if you have 4K BluRays that have been mastered at 4000 nits, then no OLED can do 4000 nits - the Bravia 9 wouldn't need to do tone mapping either whereas your S95D would. But then the S95D doesn't do Dolby Vision either so for hard-core video enthusiasts, the lack of Dolby Vision is a non-starter -> 4K BluRays where Dolby Vision was targeted in the mastering process look amazing, but admittedly there's not a lot of content that falls explicitly into that category. Dolby Vision via streaming isn't such a big deal once I learned that Netflix uses an intermediate container format and doesn't target specific HDR codecs (HDR10, Dolby Vision). And if you don't do 4K BluRays then a lot of this goes by the wayside. Having said all that, being able to pause something or have static content up (think a CZcams video with music and a static background) without being paranoid about burn-in is nice. I have an LG OLED in my bedroom and Sony's once previous mighty Z9D in the living room.

All other scenes are breath taking especially contrast and HDR. Unless your Z9K blooming is a distraction to you (which once seen now can not be unseen) and maybe upsizing from 75" to 85" you may consider waiting at least one year for this new tech to be improved. The new Sony master monitor is just released and you know that Hollywood is slow to adapt.

    Reading through the comments some people need a math lesson. If you have a 1 nit OLED panel and divide by zero that is technically infinite contrast. You are falling for marketing. A TV needs to get bright for a high contrast ratio, you rarely have a scene with a lot of completely black pixels therefore contrast is better measured from a non zero starting point in real life use. For most content a high peak brightness without the loss of color volume is going to be the superior picture versus the ability to do a pixel level black.

      It’s excellent for a mini led so we’re both right just need to look at in context. Game mode on mini led always has some compromise with the backlight in mind.

    This guy sounds like an oled fan boy I would take his analysis with a grain of salt, doesn't talk about the ABL that screws up OLED brightness or black crush and the lower brightness in bright highlights.

      What do I gain from being a OLED fan boy?

      @@TechWithKG I think its just your preference nothing wrong with that but it might make you judge other teach unfairl. I have the z9d and I dont see any blooming in regular content, this is more advance backlighting yet you are claiming there is blooming in regular content. Watch the Revenant dark scene movie looks better on OLED. Mad Max Fury bright movie looks better on MiniLed so its a draw yet we keep saying OLED is better, this is bias.

    Even the small Blooming doesn't bother me as much as the possibly excessive contrast of the OLED, where a dark scene is displayed, and in such scenes I would want a Blooming. I don't like HDR either, because for me it's not a realistic picture, but a picture with enhanced depth, colors, everything just to make it pop up as much as possible. I will give you an example now, if you were to look out into nature, you would see the NATURAL scene of the picture, and then, if you transferred it to HDR, you would see a pop up picture, and I don't like that at all, I want a NATURAL display of the picture. That's why I'm still of the opinion that OLED would not suit me in any way, and of course, if I had an OLED TV, I myself would set the picture as it suits me, and I wouldn't care if the picture could burn because of that, because then I have such a TV as well it's not for me if I can't adjust it the way it suits me. Somehow I think to myself that I will never buy an OLED TV, especially now that it is necessary to have a larger TV size and here OLED is extremely expensive and if you want an even bigger size, you have no choice.
    Let's say that this year's SONY BRAVIA 9 would certainly be the best TV for me of all those that exist on the market or have ever been produced in the world, but I wouldn't have that either because I don't have such a salary that I can afford it, as the minimum I would like to have a 65" size or preferably a bigger one.

    The real challenge for Bravia 9 is the frame by frame comparison with TCL C855 (QM8, 2024)
