Wow
yeah #1. Agents of shield is not canon to the mcu.....per disney and marvel.
@@silva352 It is. It was when it came out and it hasn’t been declared not canon since then.
Love how In iron man they had f1 and captain marvel they had nascar(tv in background of bar)
You don't seem to know what is a retcon
I view the fake Infinity Gauntlet as a deliberate deterrent. If most of the universe thinks that Odin has all of the stones locked away in his vault, then no one's going to go looking for them.
Odon kill thanos
It’s also a right handed gauntlet, Thanos has a lefty.
@@joermnyc good point
It’s been over three years since the Marvel comic book writing legend Stan Lee passed away, and we all miss him a lot…
Huh. I didn't know that.
Doesn't seem like 3 years.
100th like and more for Stan
uncle stan.
AoS really does deserve more attention. It is very rare to have a show that wasn’t supposed to last go on for seven years and then give the story a well written and satisfying ending.
It really is a great action/comic book/sci-fi/comedy show
It's right where it belongs
Thanks to Loki anything and everything can be canon with ease within the multiverse. Thats just a universe where coulson was brought back. If its marvel and even if its a cartoon it can be canon.
@@chrissperry1514 it ties directly into a few of the movies.
But it contradicts others. So ot seems it would be retcon as a branch timeline (completely or parcially) and them some of it's characters will be brought back as variantes within the MCU (like Kingpin or Dardevil) or multivers breachers (like Tobey and Andrew's Spidermans and it's villains).
Honorary mention: Fury keeping aliens from 1995 a secret is totally in character.
I think that purpose is to raise serious attention on the superheroes….
"I have many more stories to tell" hits comic book fans differently now... RIP Stan Lee
Lee's last work for Marvel Comics as a writer was the 1990 graphic novel, Silver Surfer: The Enslavers, when he was 68.
Mr. Stan Lee, we still miss you…
I miss jack Kirby a lot more, ya know the actual intellectual creator of the comics these movies are based on, stan Lee doesn't come close...but rip jack Kirby and stan Lee
We do
@@jamesmeppler6375 Ain't that the guy who killed Lee Harvey Oswald?
@@theportugueselegend lol I guess that was Jack Ruby. I'd imagine Kirby would have killed Lee if he could
Jack Kirby WAS the one who created, drew and wrote the hero's everyone likes..except spider man.
If you look up the one character stan lee actually created...you will see that he was terrible at comic book ideas, he just had the bank to fund artists who never would have been published without the cash
The entire MCU franchise will be turning 14 this May.
Cute
And the first Avengers will turn 10 in May too
Last year it turned 13…and next year it will be 15.
Oh I get it. You just like posting random facts.
Good info!
I'm pretty sure the Tesseract, ect were always intended to be Infinity Stones. But they made the wise decision to hold off on identifying them as such until later.
Remember there was no guarantee that the MCU would become so successful. Marvel did the right thing by playing it safe in the early films.
Yeah, if the fan base could immediately identify Loki's scepter as containing the Mind Stone, there's no way the producers hadn't thought of it.
A lot of good it did them with the current state of the MCU.
This is gonna be my absolute favorite Retcon of all. Stanley was actually old captain America traveling through time dropping in on people here and there.
Why? He had nothing to do with creating captain America.
Who's Stanley?
@@manichispanic999 Also, his name isn't Stanley, lol.
Fucking derp.
Something else that was retconned was the naming of S.H.I.E.L.D. In the first Iron Man, they had no abbreviated name yet, hence the “mouthful/working-title” jokes. But in Captain Marvel, which takes place a decade or so before the events of Iron Man, they do have the S.H.I.E.L.D. abbreviation assigned.
I honestly saw that as Coulson messing with people.
Here's how the conversation could have gone: "I'm Agent Coulson of SHIELD." "What the heck is SHIELD?"
So, rather than waste time, Coulson makes a point of saying it longhand.
Peggy Carter and Howard Stark started S.H.I.E.L.D in the 1950s
I was not expecting Coulson’s resurrection into Agents of SHIELD to be #1 on this list- I didn’t even think of it at all to be honest- but man I love when my favorite show finally gets some attention and/or recognition 😁
I'm calling it now, MCU fans who refuse to accept that show and Marvel TV as canon are gonna get triggered and send hate comments to WatchMojo over the shows being mentioned as MCU.
@@DedricSilva I thought AoS was basically retconned with the Hawkeye finale?
@@ghostw3938 That's not what it meant. Mockingbird could be just the rank name.
@@DedricSilva well sure that’s plausible but they skipped around so much in AoS, and by season 6 it’s like they’re apart of their own universe. And Disney+, if I recall, basically retconned AoS earlier this year, placing its with Inhumans and the Runaways TV show.
I’m sorry if you’re in denial, but Hawkeye effectively retconned AoS.
@@ghostw3938 except no it didn't. The only thing it was said it was that Laura was revealed about Agent 19. They said nothing about Laura being Mockingbird. Also they are like 500 Black Widows in the MCU they could easily have been at least 2 Mockingbirds. MockingBird could have easily been S.H.I.E.L.D/HYDRA answer to the Black Widow Program in the MCU.
Changing Thanos' motivation from the comics isn't a retcon, it's a change made for the films.
The kid being Peter isn't a retcon if it isn't made known in the movies.
Ur right on the first part but the Peter thing is a Retcon. They took a single random character and made him canon as Peter simply by Fiege saying so
Honestly they did good that they change thanoses motives otherwise hed be called simpnos
The Thanos thing was a retcon. In the Avengers post credits scene, The Other said “To challenge then is to court Death” which means that the original plan for MCU Thanos was that he be in love with Death, but was changed in Infinity War to make him more compelling
The kid being peter was nothing more than a fan theory it was never confirmed in the movies therefore it isn't Canon.
@@babygravy7 you’re making an assumption. It was certainly a nod to the comics, but nothing confirms that it was meant to be taken literally.
In the Gamora scene, it shows only half of her people being killed after the mass execution. The camera pans out and shows both sides. It is also the reason they were telling people to choice a side.
Does nobody ever bring up that the fake Infinity Gauntlet is right-handed, while Thanos always wore it on his left in the comics and movies? To say that the right-handed version was fake is fine, but I never got any impression that I was supposed to believe it was ever the real deal.
Ok
Good lord you seem like you have a unbearable personality
I disagree about the Infinity Stones. I think the true identities of the Tesseract and the gem in Loki's staff were intended all along. For one thing, once the Infinity Stone subplot was revealed, attentive fans immediately began guessing that Loki's staff held the Mind Stone, and if the fan base could realize it so easily, the producers couldn't have missed the idea, so it was probably planned that way all along.
Hydra infiltration in Shield was earthshaking twist
When Fury said "we", He meant the whole planet now knows that aliens exist.
In the first Avengers movie, they imply that Fury knows Coulson isn’t dead but told the Avengers that he was to motivate them in the battle of New York, so I don’t know how accurate this retcon is
2:10 and I would listen to each one. RIP legend
I thought Coulson wasn’t meant to die anyway cuz of the bloody cards and Fury said they needed the extra push.
When Iron Man 2 came out I was so confused when Don Cheadle was suddenly Rhodey lol
Tony got him plastic Sugeory
Nah mayne....
Yeah, I was expecting the actor replacements for Rhodey and Banner to be on this list. How are those not huge retcons?!
As I never read the comics, the declaration at the end of The Avengers was simply a way to state how strong The Avengers actually were.
We miss you, Phil Coulson.
Where are you when you need you, Stan?
Seeing his many cameos makes him forever an omnipresence.
I don't want Agents of SHIELD to be gotten rid of. We really enjoyed the show. It gave me more back ground from the Marvel comics. And it gave us something Marvel to watch between movies. We liked Agent Carter too.
Agent Carter was excellent and very underrated IMHO
Sony and Marvel Studios’ 3rd ‘Spider-Man’ movie officially made 1.370 billion globally and counting.
Living proof even a pandemic won’t bog it down.
In a future movie, they ought to have a flashback of a young Peter Parker, his Aunt May and even Uncle Ben at the Stark Expo. It would be cool to see his aunt (or even his uncle) buy him his Iron Man mask and show him wandering about as the Hammer Drones begin their havoc up until the time that Iron Man comes and saves his life.
Whether it was planned or not, not having those characters revealed as Hydra agents until the events of Winter Soldier works out better storywise because there was no need to make it known before that. The audience finds out when Cap does, making for a better plot twist.
I feel like the Shield Easter Eggs could still be canon for one of Howards multiple tries at making a new/another Captain America. He made more super soldier serums in Civil War, and it would explain why Red Guardian thinks he fought THE Captain America.
Now that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is over, I hope to see Agent Coulson in future marvel projects.
I hope Daisy & LMD Coulson show up in Secret Invasion :).
Yeah, hope so
Except Coulson died for good at the end of Season 5. There is his LMD, but to use it in other projects would be very awkward.
@@Compucles why would be it awkward?
@@Compucles not really. "Coulson? I thought you were dead?" "Long story pal!"
I wanted to say because of the retcon to the darkhold as seen in Wanda-Vision it expressly decanonizes Agents of Shield, Runaways, and Cloak and Dagger
No it doesn't.
Thank you someone who knows that agents of shield isn't cannon I scrolled for like 20 minutes to find someone who knew it wasn't Canon like it would cause way too much problems if it was Canon
It actually doesn’t, necessarily.
I don’t remember it being in Runaways or Cloak and Dagger, but I could swear I remember Agents of SHIELD saying the Darkhold(being magic) can alter its physical appearance.
The entirety of Captain Marvel is the biggest and worst MCU retcon.
Ultron and Loki being "non real emergency". The name "Avengers" came from Carol Danvers. Fury's eye. It made Danvers the center of the universe.
W for me not watching it
Man, agree 100 percent
Considering how many people were involved in the production of these movies and tv shows. I'm not surprised there's so many loose ends. Pretty amazing accomplishment I'd say
I never saw Fury stating that The Destroyer caused Shield to use the Tesseract to create weapons as a Retcon. I mean, it's Fury. When confronted that they were secretly creating weapons, just say they were in response to something. We know Fury will lie because he does so again later with Colson's cards (they weren't in his jacket, they were in his locker). The Ends Justifies The Means.
Everyone all thought the tesseract was the cosmic cube until it was raveled to b an oyster shell to the mind stone. I believe in this about Wanda, the mind stone gave her the superpower of Psionic (the ability to use multiple psychic based powers in 1 package) but Chaos Magic was always hers and like what Agatha said, the stone amplified it otherwise it would've faded away since she had no magic training.
What about the SHIELD retcon. In the first Marvel movies they establish that SHIELD is a brand new thing. That's retconned to SHIELD being around back to WWII.
That retcon from Ironman 2 was stupid I'm so glad all connections from Ironman were gone in no way home
Oh Stan Lee , we still missing you , legend
@@whiteknights8812 me and the whole MCU , dumbass 😂
@@henri191 stan Lee didn't create these characters....he funded jack Kirby and occasionally bounced ideas off Kirby that he thought would make him money. Did you notice when Kirby died, marvel almost went bankrupt? Or are you a band wagon nerd(hipster) who doesn't know the full history...only what you seen since the movies came out
That happened because Kirby was the only one who could create characters we wanted to read about..stan Lee was a bank, thats it. Thats like saying jp Morgan we will miss your genius on electricity even though he only funded it
@@jamesmeppler6375 The conversation has nothing to do with you and who said that Stan Lee made the Marvel ? I said "we miss you , Stan Lee" , if you don't know interpretation it's not my problem
They should have retconned it again to say that Stan was a TVA agent.
Just have a name plate on one of the TVA desks that says "S. Lee" in season 2 of Loki.
They’ll just keep him into something else.
There were power vacuums that formed on Gamora's world and she survived the destructive wars only because she was not there.
Hmm, that makes sense, but was that ever confirmed?
The Mandarin "twist" is the reason that Iron Man 3 is on the bottom of my MCU rankings. Having the "real one" in Shang Chi was too little too late. We needed an Iron Man-Mandarin fight scene.
Now if they'd retcon the terrible Taskmaster from the Black Widow movie.
Imagine having not one, not two, but THREE shitty opinions.
Oh yeah coming from the simpleton who calls himself “Wiseguy”
After watching Shang Chi, I straight up LOVE Slattery. He's too precious for this world.
Totally amazing video of marvel retcon in mcu and fantastic job. Some retcon are awesome to see in the marvel studios movies & tv shows, others are just stupid annoying to be retcon in the movies or tv shows too.
Starlord's backstory was also retconned. His dad in the comics is not Ego but J'son.
Always crack up at the "I'm just getting the door for you" LMAO
What about Captain America's Easter egg cameo in The Incredible Hulk in 2008?
Although that was only in a deleted scene.
Going with the Wanda/Scarlet Witch rights issue, it also caused an issue with Quicksilver. Their parentage for sure. It was briefly addressed in WandaVision but they dropped the ball with the story. Even so, how would two siblings even in a multiverse wind up with different parents? X-men kind of showed us Q’s sister but only briefly. Now that the rights are all under the same company it’s still not certain the pair will ever be together again. But keeping Evan Peters would be awesome, as well as bringing Magneto back into it.
Bruh the entire multiverse is one giant retcon. There are no consequences now, Marvel can do whatever they want with any character
To be fair with “Thor being the first alien” retcon, that isn’t quite what he said.
He was talking about the fight that destroyed a city. Captain Marvel’s aliens were far more hidden then that. I think it was the public nature of Thor that changed things, not that he was the first alien. It is why he talks about being outgunned. Earth wasn’t outgunned because they had the human Carol Danvers
Indeed. Thor's arrival triggered all the other nations to start freaking out. The ones from Captain Marvel went completely unnoticed by pretty much everyone.
Also, he's fucking Nick Fury, he's the master of lies and secrets
I always thought that we didn’t know that Stern was a hydra agent for a while because he was really good at hiding it and the fact that everyone thought that hydra had died when World War 2 ended.
I think the reason why Fury was saying how Thor was the first “alien” that visited Earth was because he was trying to keep the events of “Captain Marvel” secret. The world didn’t know about Captain Marvel and the skrulls back in 1995, thus no one knew aliens existed at the time. Thor’s entrance attracted everyone. In addition, Fury was pretending just so he could protect the location of the skrulls.
I so wanted them to bring in Death as a villain. Like have it so when the people that died gave her a huge power up, resulting in a huge decrease in power when they all got snapped back so she wanted to go after the Avengers for it.
Marvel Death is too strongly associated with Deadpool, would be difficult to integrate her, argument she's an X-Men character is a bit too strong
"I have got so many stories to tell"
that line made me cry like a one year old baby
what are the odds i watch a video posted 5 years ago and it makes me think of all the mcu’s retcons so i look it up and find out you posted this video 16 minutes ago
We can’t wait to see the next trilogy for the MCU Spider-Man (playing by Tom Holland) in the future.
There isn’t another Spider-Man trilogy for Tom Holland
@@thebobgaming807 there is lol...Feige already confirmed its developmemt
@@thebobgaming807 get out of the comment section...you have no idea about mcu
@@yolomeister9863 let’s not be so harsh, I mean Tom did indicate he was exiting and didn’t want to play spidey into his thirties so I don’t blame fans for being confused, but feige did confirm active development on the next trilogy
@@khylechristianderosales1894 source?
Speaking of vulture, he as of now knows nothing about peter parker correct? I kinda liked that he did.
I know I’m curious how that will factor into their interactions if he returns
Funny thing, I had a funky dream not long after seeing No Way Home where Beck and Toomes were able to achieve immunity from Doctor Strange’s spell prior to it happening using Wakandan technology.
That there was NO foreshadowing of Hydra hidden within SHIELD in any MCU movie or AoS or Agent Carter is one of the biggest oversights. Sadly, it still stands as the only well done link between big and small screens, Pre-Disney+
@Valerio Turturici they are canon. Hawkeye even features fisk's father's cufflink from daredevil.
@Valerio Turturici do you people have a life? if you don't think they're canon, fine....but replying to people just to scream "they're not canon" just makes you a dick
There may not be any foreshadowing in the movies but there was a lot in the AoS.
Valerio Turturici watch Hawkeye and Spider-Man No Way Home
@Valerio Turturici actually they’re canon.
Questionable if a few of these could be classed as ‘retcons’
bringing Coulson back from the dead isn't a retcon. If you take a hat off, then put the hat back on, it's not a retcon. It's only a retcon if you say you never took the hat off in the first place.
Idk if anyone had say about this but I think in the comics Wanda and Pietro is adopted by someone right?
So it's kinda possible to still make Wanda and Pietro are magneto children by make the parents in the show is actually adopt Wanda and Pietro.
Or just have Wanda not know and be like, "I didn't know we were adopted. They never never told us."
"I've got so many more stories to tell. " yes you did, stan. Yes you did.
Natasha helped steve break everyone out at the end of civil war and that truly brought me so much peace
Stan Lee's cameo in Captain America: Civil War is my absolute favorite. Hearing him say "Are you Tony Stank?" will NEVER get old.
Maybe those Stan Lee cameos may be variants of him sneaking in other movies.
Just a theory of mine. And I respect him. R.I.P. Stan Lee
MCU is just the best, and Stan is just a legend!
#7 I loved the Mandarin twist
Gotta love the rets from the past, man!
Are we going to see more retcons like these in future movies and Disney Plus shows in the MCU? Which one of them do you think is the best?
More then half of it wasn't retcon
There's no need for any retcons anymore, now that the Multiverse was introduced in Loki and No Way Home. There's now infinite possibilities for new Marvel stories.
@@GreenHellTube there’s still need for retcons for the main MCU.
Say what you will about the MCU. Even if you hate it, Kevin Feige is probably the only producer who can do it justice. Another producer would’ve likely botched it
Agreed 100% with you!!!
Number 1 is my favorite Retcon in anything ever.
Same :)
But that's not even a retcon, it's a resurrection, which happens in the comics all the time. The people at WatchMojo need to buy a dictionary.
The way the MCU handled The Mandarin was criminal! I literally yelled at the screen when I saw what they had done to a great villain in the comics! They tried to correct the error in 10 Rings, but it’s still a colossal failure in my eyes. What a let down. This is one character that deserves a total RetCon and new beginnings. He was so good on the pages, and so bad (not in a good way…) on screen.
Wen Woo was the real Mandarin and he was a great villain
@@therock238360 sadly he never fought ironman
Common fanboy weirdo who yells at the TV and is mad that the MCU differs from the comics.
@@ghostw3938 yeah but the MCU are idiots sometimes. Just stick to the script, it's much easier lol.
Did you have a problem with his depiction in "Shang-Chi"? If not, does it really matter that he was a hoax in "Iron Man 3"? Hoax villain plots with a hidden mastermind are interesting in their own way, anyway. The only real issue is that Iron Man and the real "Mandarin" never got to meet.

Darkwiiiing Duck
I wonder did Stan picture all this when he first started...I feel like he definitely went to heaven.
YES! Phil Coulson is the ultimate retcon, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was awesome and needs to come back with the original actors.
Hawkeye retconned the Battle of New York to include Antman since he would have been spotted there in Endgame.
No
Hawkeye retconned nothing. Clint himself says that the stage musical is inaccurate by including him.
@@almightycinder yea because Clint was fighting and knew Antman wasn't there but Antman went back with Cap, Hulk and Tony to get the 3 stones from 2012 NY and he was probably spotted, so he's in everyone's memories as being there. That's why he was in the play.
How is Stan Lee cameos not number one that one is absolutely crazy 😂.
Number 10 should be the Tony/Peter retcon cuz it’s confirmed but never stated in the movies.
"I've got so many more stories to tell."
Ugh, that really hurts now...
Both GoTG films are supposedly set in 2014 right after each other. So if Civil War was 2016 there may be another retcon in order LOL
"I've got so many more stories to tell"
Yes you did! Yes, you did!
Rest in peace!
I'm happy that Agent Coulson is still alive.I actually thought he died.
Then you don't wanna see season 5 of Agents of Shield.
Can you do comic book origin of Marvel's Annihilus?
Can you do top 10 facts about Marvel's Annihilus?
What a surprise.
The little boy in the Iron Man mask was the MCU version of Peter Parker (before got bitten by a radioactive spider and then became Spider-Man at the age of 14).
As much as I love Thanos just wanting to fuck the living incarnation of death in the comics I love his MCU motivation it’s so much more interesting
Non of these are retcons, it’s just it’s own universe and depiction of the comics
I have a theory about gamora people i believe she somehow found her people & we will learn more about them in Thor love & thunder when they find her 👌🏽
It’s called Adding stuff in so that it can make sense when the plot counts it don’t gotta be good or bad consume product and be excited for next product
Can you make Kaitou Joker top 10?
I do not consider most of these “retcons” they’re just storyline progressions where information is updated or newly revealed later to explain the past. That’s how stories evolve, it doesn’t make it a recon.
I remember them retconning Wanda’s age, she was first introduced as a teenager or college age woman, but making her 30 in Wandavision really kinda broke me a little
The only thing I hate about the MCU is the absence of Stan Lee 😞 RIP sir.
You forgot a big one
Nick Fury has been out of the planet since he said good bye in agents of shield. Though he appeared in many like age of ultron(maybe incorrect on this one), spiderman ffh, infinity war, endgame
@Valerio Turturici you're not canon to the rest of us so stfu
@Valerio Turturici they’re canon to the MCU.
Spider-Man FFH was confirmed to be a skrull at the end. Idk about the rest though. I knew he was off planet but didn’t know he was off since end of AoS bc I didn’t watch AoS to the end.
@@ttiger86 they don't say anything about where Fury is or has been in SHIELD though...he shows up a couple times around the point shortly after Winter Soldier happens to make Coulson director ( Fury WAS declared dead after all...until FFH it was pretty much understood that he was to stay "dead" to the majority of the world aside from the Avengers and those loyal to SHIELD ) and help stop Agent Garrett in season 1. It's still very unclear how long Fury's been offworld and what appearances may have actually been Talos ( the Skrull posing as Fury in FFH...his wife was the one posing as Maria Hill ). If they bring back Colson without agents of shield being cannon Im gonna quit!
Ok. They can't really canonize AOS without creating tons of plot holes though. They aren't even canonizing Sony SpiderMan except to say that it's something that happened in another Universe. God, I'd love Coulsin to show back up (in modern MCU) as the head of SHIELD, with Fury overseeing all divisions (including SWORD and ARMOR).
