There was a French 357 revolver that was used by their special police and bodyguards and it had a variant with a 12 In barrel, a bipod, and a 2.5x scope!
It was meant to snipe at typical assault rifle distance, or less and be able to be carried without drawing attention by showing weapon crates...
One GIGN used the short barrel version to kill all terrorists, who had assault rifles when he had his right arm shot to pieces! He offed them with only 6 rounds and massive blood loss!

BTW, 16" revolver barrel had SLOWER muzzle velocity than 6" according to Tools & Guns chrono test. Sound crazy?? Possible explanation, pressure lost in the cylinder gap, powder burn up before bullet leaves barrel, and possible subsequent drag (low pressure behind bullet sucking it back, maybe). It was a surprising result!

The long barrel and the coathanger extension makes it legal. Cut it down and it is a prohibited weapon, which will get you a mandatory 5yrs in prison. And pretty much all firearms in the UK are registered to the person by serial number. And transfers have to be to another licence holder and the transaction registered with the police. So no-one would be daft enough to cut down a gun, as you will get caught.
And to get a UK firearms licence for even a 22lr bolt action rifle, is far harder than getting an NFA permit in the US. So shooters tend to be pretty careful not to do anything stupid.

I just bought my first revolver and I'm 69 years old. I have a freind who always talked me into semi auto handguns. But just before Christmas Vance Outdoors in Columbus, Ohio had the Rough Rider for $99.00 with a $30.00 rebate from Heritage making my final cost only $69.99. How could I say no to a deal like that. I've already orderd my .22 WMR cylinder. Mine is a 4.75: model and the sights seem spot on.as long as I keep the front blade sight in the center of the rear groove sight. I was shooting at 7,10,and 15 yards and all shots were with in a 4" pattern. The Heritgae is spot on, I'm not.
I like it so much it will be replacing my S&W .22 compact. I have arthiritis and gout in my hands making it nearly impossible for me to load a magazine of a semi auto handgun so I am going to switch to all revolvers. My next will be a Taurus 856 to replace my Ruger lc9s. After that I might go for a couple Taurus 942's one in ,22lr and the other a .22 WMR, Then my collection will be complete. I still have my old single shot 20 and a Marlin semi auto rifle but it has a feeding tube which I can load with ease they are both keepers. And I have a derringer (don't know why, just awlays wanted one). Thanks Plinkster for the video, yours are always fun to watch.

I disagree, There is a cylinder to barrel gap on a revolver. You'll get maximum velocity out of a 6 -9 inch barrel. Out of a 16 inch barrel the bullet will be slowing down. I'll be anxiously awaiting your chronograph review when you test the 16" against a 6" revolver. Of course the longer sight radius can't be denied. I really can't guess which length barrel will be the most accurate but my gut feeling is the 16 inch.
