- I Paid $80 For This Xbox Series S - It Was MESSED UP! One of my viewers tried to fix the HDMI port on his son's Xbox Series S but it didn't go so well. So I bought it so I could see if I could repair it and get it working again.

Cancer survivor here. Yesterday made one year and 7 months I have been cancer free. You can and will beat it Steve. God bless you and your family. And ty for the awesome videos.
Love it! Congrats on beating it.
Same here. This year is the 20th anniversary of my diagnosis, and I'm still going strong! Much love and energy for you ❤
So tough to see you like this man, been watching you for like 6 years since before college, I wish you a speedy recovery, youre an awesome person
Same. Literally hurts to see this. This is the beautiful part of the internet. Shows humanity does still exist. Praying he can pull through
I'm glad he's still making videos though. He needs that normalcy in his life to keep the fight going strong!
From Mexico 🇲🇽 ¡Gracias!
Wish you the best and pray for you to get better. You are the reason i started to repair my consoles and loose the fear of messing up by learning soldering as a personal achievement. Thank you so much for your videos! ❤

Seeing a channel that needs zero gimmicks or tricks to keep someone watching is amazing
They don't even have click bait titles, their content is so good you're just forced to come and watch. Wish we had more CZcams channels like this.
@@saint4985 Yeah I still can't fix a single thing but hes so effortlessly engaging I find it incredibly interesting all the same lol.. Great guy it seems
His videos are increadibly well edited, his voice is expressive, and he explains the work that's being done great. I've learned quite a bit from this channel
True! Though I am in IT but have two left hands when it comes to electronics and fixing them these videos are super satisfying.
@@saint4985Same thought here
I hope your treatment is going as well as it possibly can Steve! Love the content and wishing you a speedy recovery ❤
My son recently started a channel and began creating some videos, then a few weeks later was diagnosed with cancer. As expected it shattered his world and he lost his motivation to create. I showed him your latest videos and it's given him hope that theres still a path and a place for him. Keep up the fight and know you're inspiring the next generation of creators. ❤

this guy can fix anything.
wish you the best Steve
almost anything lol theres been a few that are just beyond repair
I love watching his videos. I was hooked a long time ago. He really is talented.
No, phil aka "the cod3r" can fix anything. Steve has sent some boards to him over in the uk to work on because steve doesnt do any reballing of bga chips.
Awe man I didn't know you were sick, damn man you're my absolute favorite CZcamsr, praying for you man!
Cancer plays no favorites, this makes me so sad. :( Praying for your quick defeat of this evil cancer and your speedy recovery!!!!
I've NEVER seen traces lift off a pcb like that. Holy cow.
This one was pretty intense.
The only time I've seen it happen has been with the Xbox series versions once they get a tad over worked instead of just breaking they completely lift and move freely
I have, but not to that extreme. I repaired a commodore 64. It had 1 bad memory chip. I replaced all 8 of them because they were a crappy brand. No issues, but my homemade power supply didn't have a thick enough cable. I didn't know that at the time and once I added accessories it dropped down to 3.5v. I have no idea how a 5v computer worked at 3.5v, but it did...mostly. Just color glitches. I couldn't find the issue because without the accessories it was running at 4.5v (which is low, but well within spec). So I replaced the PLA. No change. I replaced the color ram........OOPS! I lifted a trace. Repaired my issue......no change. Eventually found out that the voltage was dropping with accessories.
Replaced the cable, worked fine.......until my cartridge disk emulator wouldn't work anymore. I had been using de-oxit. The card connector was covered in green slime. lol Apparently the port was completely corroded. It's a wonder it worked at all. I couldn't fix it so I had to replace it. I have no idea how many pins that is, but it's a lot. I lifted a trace on that one too. That one the trace didn't rip so it's not attached completely to the board, but it works. The color ram trace ripped. I had to bodge that one (like you see here). So my working C64 has 1 missing trace and 2 loose trace.
If I were to do it again, I'd get low melt solder. I suspect it would make repairs easier. Also proper flux. And I wouldn't have looked at that inadequate cable and said, sure why not. I used it because I didn't want to have to solder 4 wires in a din connector. I think it was a 7 pin MIDI cable. Fortunately I found someone that sold me a higher quality cable with the plug already on it. If I had an original power supply I would have cut off and re-used the cables on that. But I didn't. (the original PSU will brick all the chips on the board eventually)
You know, when they pulled it up and it started going, that just kept pulling hoping it would stop.... it didn't.
@@joper90 If I had to guess, they were probably pulling on it and it suddenly let go, and then the momentum is what pulled the traces up
Made it look easy, the zoomed in view doesn't show how tiny everything is. If I could leave a suggestion before putting the console back together I would've showed a zoomed out view of the repair area. Great vid as usual anyway
Yeah, that would have been good.
Right?!?! I watch this channel and TheCod3r. Both he (Phil) and Steve make these repairs look deceptively easy. They are not. The view we see is under a microscope at several x zoom. I'm guessing 20..maybe 40X. Those caps and resistors are like a grain of rice. Haha!
@@SirHeadly84 Heck, a grain of rice is roughly 3 or 4 times larger than some of those caps and resistors. They really are tiny! I've done a little hobbyist stuff, and I wish they were as large as a grain of rice. Hahaha.
@@mjc0961 amen!
For me the moment of realisation was when those side cutters appeared in the picture. They are small but here looked gigantic
I had no idea you was fighting the ultimate battle bro. My prayers will be with you. Always keep a positive mindset trust me that goes long way. My brother fought the battle and won 🏆 💪 I know you will too. Keep doing what you love to keep you busy and your viewers will always be with you every step of the way.
I repaired several things thanks to you, with the cheapest tools available (aliexpress soldering iron and things like that)
Honestly thanks for making videos I always learn something off of them
Thanks! So glad you've been able to fix some of your own stuff!
Practicing on non-repairable devices is a better idea when first learning to solder. At least he was brave enough to give it a try.
Yeah, I give him props for giving it a go at least
I mean, you can kiss a mirror for years, won't prepare you for the real thing. Sometimes, you just gotta go for it, when there is something on the line.
That's what I'm waiting for to learn lol. My niece has an Xbox one S that I'm hoping she'll give to me when it eventually breaks so I can learn how to solder.

Your skill at retracing damaged, missing,or broken wires is impressive. I love watching the series s repairs in particular.
On one side, in happy that a viewer gave an honest try at repairing their device instead of throwing it away. It means your videos made a positive impact!
On the other hand, holy guacamole! That's a lot of ripped off traces!

Love your videos!
Glad you like them!
My first thought was “how in the hell did someone mess this repair up that bad” but my second was “that’s cocky coming from someone who’s never tried”
Nice job on this repair!

Hey Steve. What grinding tool are you using at 9:33? You did a nice job repairing the hdmi port
Just a generic grinding pen. I don't have an affiliate link for it yet but if you search on Amazon you'll see lots of them.
