Used my BOSS Phase Shifter throughout the song and my Super Chorus for the lead solo. Just trying to match the studio sound as best as I could. Rock on!
I Love that tune and you play it so well and I learned something too, Thank you! Frank is one of the most underated musicians in the world. I been listening to him since the 70"s
Just came across this while searching out old/rare Frank. Great copy!! From one guitar player, and huge Mahogany Rush fan since the '70s , to another..... WELL DONE!
You definitely nailed that one so well it transpored me back in time 35+ years . . . . I think my hair grew out 12 inches while listening. You are THAT good!
It is so important to play and teach these beautiful rock masterpieces. This part of rock history should kickin around forever. Thank you for caring enough to post this lesson video. And for effort, time and talent. Long live Frank Marino And Mahogany Rush.
+Fred and Patty Chandler Thank YOU for the kind words. I agree ... the music of today is nowhere close to the quality of what the artists created decades ago.
Excellent playing! And the SG and Boss pedals really help get the Marino tone. I've owned SGs. Great guitars! My first guitar teacher had an SG and was a big Marino fan. Dude totally shredded. And nothing looks cooler than an SG.
Frank Marino ain't that easy to copy, especially with his amazing monstrous pedal board from the 70's... But I'll give you an "A" for capturing some of his sound here.. Great stuff Muchacho 😎👍
Agreed. I was 16 and within a year had 6 EHX pedals. I still remember touching the 9v bats with my tongue!! IIRC Frank Marino live came out really close to when Eddie landed from planet Van Halen. I dropped everything to copy him but Frank is right up there with Ed, Joe Perry and even a little Nugent as being my mentors.
Nice job. I'm proud to be in Frank's following. Call us a cult, I don't give a shit. Some of the best blues and psychedelic music the world has ever seen or known....or not known, and extremely underrated. Frank was a huge influence on my guitar playing in my early years as a musician, and there's no doubt as much FM influence in my playing now as there is Jimi Hendrix, Satriani, EJ or anybody else that are/were my influences.
I met Frank and Jimmy Ayoub in an after hours club in Montreal back in the 80’s when he was mainly working on his cars. Super nice guy we partied till the early hours he paid most of the drinks thought I’d share Nice job btw Peace
Thanks!. I haven't listened to much of his other stuff yet, but doing this cover makes me want to learn more. He blistered that fretboard, Thanks again, and rock on!
Hey great tune I love Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush. Your sound is nice & you play it well. Any chance you can do a version of "The Answer" from the Live album & maybe Land of 1000 Nights after that. I would really like to learn those ones & get stuck on parts. No one else posts stuff like Mahogany Rush anywhere! Hey thanks very cool man!!!
I had the pleasure of assisting if i can say in 1980 at Bromomt in Quebec Canada one special night a show from Mahogany Rush Frank Marino that was so Rock and Roll !! Yeahh.. Smile
I've been trying to play this right for years and your video has solved my conundrum. Thank you. Now, if you could just show us how Frank does the jazzy (1st) solo on Something's Coming Our Way.....
Love the sound your getting with the SG and Phase Shifter, perfect for this song. Great job and nice to see a Frank Marino cover. Do you know Tales of the Spanish Warrior or anything from Strange Dreams?
That was a very good cover it's not an easy feat to cover franks stuff but you did a very good job doing it. Sure it needs a little more work but you got it close enough for me to enjoy it. Dragon fly
+mike Braxus They can be similar at some settings, but the Phase Shifter can almost give you a wah-wah sound and some very extreme digital adjustments - almost like a Sci-Fi movie. Hard to explain. Best way to see for yourself is hit the local music store. Most have a display for use so you can compare the two.
Good for you, dude!! Nice. Jus wish you'd do a slowed down lesson on this classic for us slow pokes... I've taken a few hits to the ol brain pan & on top of that, got a lot of heavy metal in me from the 70's
Nicely done Brother.. Thanks.. Ive been told the SG can be alittle difficult to play, but once you get your grip dealed in sortaspeak , your hook for life... Great job.. ps; I have a Reguest if its at all possible for..Poppy for close up view and Thanks again.
+Jonathon Fuqua Yes, If I understand your question, there are subtle up-strokes in the main parts. Helps to fill the song and give it that classy groove.
Great playing! Awesome job!!! Thanks for the lesson. Frank Marino is a fantastic underrated guitar player. Such a humble guy as well. Canadian too!!!
I Love that tune and you play it so well and I learned something too, Thank you! Frank is one of the most underated musicians in the world. I been listening to him since the 70"s
So so true!!!
Just came across this while searching out old/rare Frank.
Great copy!! From one guitar player, and huge Mahogany Rush fan since the '70s , to another..... WELL DONE!
Nice job! Saw Frank in '79 and I get to see him in September! Can't wait!!!
Frank Marino a genius.
You could say that a billion times and be right every time. He's one of the best ever.
Well done! One of my all-time rock favorites from any artist.
Very cool man. One of my all time favorites too!

Great vid, can you play the answer as well?
Well done.
Nicely done, brother.
Much appreciated. Thanks!
Good tone dude. So what's the difference in a flanger and a phase shifter? I've never used the phase shifter.
BOSS Super Chorus and Phase Shifter. Thanks.
Excellent man, ...nice SG .. I'm curious how much that SG run you ?
Good for you, dude!!
Nice. Jus wish you'd do a slowed down lesson on this classic for us slow pokes...
I've taken a few hits to the ol brain pan & on top of that, got a lot of heavy metal in me from the 70's
I had a urge to snick out and smoke a dobbie and listen to that album again on 8track !
8-9-12-15-26-38 is Frank's electric string gauge with an unwound 4th D. Have you ever tried his custom gauge?
Very interesting and thanks
Nicely done Brother.. Thanks..
Ive been told the SG can be alittle difficult to play, but once you get your grip dealed in sortaspeak , your hook for life... Great job..
ps; I have a Reguest if its at all possible for..Poppy for close up view
and Thanks again.
+Andy Lavra Thanks very much Andy. I'll need to look into Poppy and see what I can do.. :)
Nice playing !
What amp or "box" are you using for the distortion / overdrive / gain ?
ha. Thanks. Guess I need to play it some more to get my hair to cooperate as well. Take care.
you should do a tutorial on this , great work by the way on this rocker.
Thank you!
Hi there, on the main riff part is it all down strokes or is there an up stroke in there as well? Thanks and sound awesome!
+Jonathon Fuqua Yes, If I understand your question, there are subtle up-strokes in the main parts. Helps to fill the song and give it that classy groove.
Love it! I've Frank quite a few times. What effect are you usin'?
Could you tell me what notes/frets you are playing on that opening riff? Can't figure out how to play it!
