    I spent my entire working life in the motor trade and never understood why book times never allowed for vehicles becoming more difficult to work on as they got older.

    I did a clutch job on a T5 transporter last year and used a very similar alignment tool from aliexpress or whatever (alza, etc). I went to different local shops and I asked for the same thing and they told meg it won't last. I told them I don't care I only need it for one job. No they won't order that for me for 6 or so GBP but they order a really fine one for 80, and the next step is like 400. No thank you, ordered the first one, did the job, and the tool did not break.Yay.

    This is one of the many reasons I generally prefer a high mileage young car over a low mileage old car.

    Split the subframe, never touch the front bits. Tight fit steering rack electrics to bulkhead. Got one apart at the moment, found the gearbox input shaft worn causing friction plate splines to strip awaiting auth/scrap

    Im suprised the clutch isnt a dual mass as those mini produce more than 100bhp as the rule of thumb says.

  • @-sargntclashroyaleandmore-491

    I recommend an induction heater for those stubborn bolts and nuts!

  • @tomcurran65
    @tomcurran65 Před měsícem +4

    Awful when you have to assume every bolt is going to round or snap, and in the back of your mind is "have I got enough drill bits, and spare nuts and bolts?" Bag of clips was a bargain at that price though!

    You know, I al 77 and I remember in teh 1960s my mate and I changing a clutch on a proper car with rear wheel drive in his garage without your fancy kit and finishing before bed time.Then did a test drive to the pub. No breathalyzer then of course but not wise . Anyway you do a great job but the cost must be horrendous. Stupid modern designs.

    Do you have to drop the subframe. I thought you could just remove the crash bar section. Fiddly, yes, but with all them rusty bolts under the car, is it less of a headache 😮

      All cars are the same but all are different when it comes to repairs the next mini I do of a similar age everything could be perfect to remove, hence why I do a lot of wetbelt jobs as it's the same job but you can run into different hurdles

    • @jimduk
      @jimduk Před měsícem +1

      @@bazmeredith ah but you need to keep the videos varied for your youtube fans ;o) . In response to earlier comment yes mini clutch can be done with Subframe in Situ.... but everyone has their own preferred way. Those specific rusty sections are notorious to go bad in Mini, but a good dollop of Dinitrol before it gets quite so bad does wonders.... but then your average car owner wont think of that :o( Plastic clips snapping ? a yearly "squirti-roone" of pure silicone oil keep em nice a supple, to be honest i do it on everything plastic (don't use WD40!)
