New project. Craig builds wood and wire airplane with Royal Enfield engine and 'Gertrude' test flies it round Leicestershire. Numerous reports of UFO spotted over Hinckley...
The German's made a number of tailless gliders prior to the war which led to designs like the ME163 and the Horten. In many respects they were technically way ahead of us.
Agreed! Not much of a plane guy myself, but the Tornado is a good looking piece of kit, that’s for sure! You’d probably be more than happy just spending 3 hours in that cockpit, eh? 😂
You really aced that video. Your narration and videography were stunning, and the brief inverted flight was a clever touch. I'd love to see your take on the US Air & Space Museum or the Smithsonian Museums. Thanks for your efforts!
Very interesting place you visited there Craig. My father worked for the MOD and was part of the team that was involved in the specifications and design of the Harrier, Jaguar, Tornado, and finally the Typhoon, plus a few others
You are so VERY lucky I wasn't there with you! Your ears would have bled from al the explanatory banter coming from me about these aircraft! 😅🥴 The BO-105 D-HILF, the yellow rescue helicopter mock-up I know from up close. I worked with the maintenance company that services the ADAC's rescue helicopters. Part of the collaboration with the ADAC was that we ferried this D-HILF around Germany for displays. The original D-HILF was Germany's first dedicatedly operated rescue helicopter owned by a private company. I am not sure, but I vaguely remember having been told ADAC were the first private carrier in the world to do so. That specimen there isn't the actual D-HILF, though. This one was owned by Bundesgrenzschutz, the FRG's federal police, for search&rescue operations. After it had been decommissioned from their service due to wear&tear and generally expired flight hours, ADAC got it, stripped most parts from it and repainted it as D-HILF. The gear was shortened to make it fit on car trailers, so it could be taken around on the road to all kinds of festivities and shows. I had the "honour" of doing just that a couple of times. It is quite nerve-racking to take a still very valuable thing like this through the madness of city traffic with the highest and furthest back point of it bouncing up and down with a huge amplitude several meters behind where you have no hope of seeing it. 😵💫(I proudly report I never caused a single scratch to it!) Oh, I remember them days so very well! 🤗 Had that company considered paying me a reasonable income worthwhile, I even might enjoy the memories. 😊
@@zweispurmopped that’s a very cool story, thank you for sharing, it would of been amazing to have you there to hear them stories first hand. Thank you for watching.
Excellent walk through of changes in flight through the years, have to agree with Comments regarding Harrier, that and the Vulcan superb jets. Have safe trip back.
When you get home, make your way to RAF Cosford , just outside Wolverhampton, Start early you may see most of it in one visit, and it's free, makes that one look like a car park! Cheers, DINO.
I remember when we lived in Germany in the 60s the German airforce were flying Starfighters (the first one with short wings and wing tanks near the Tornado). They were supersonic and we often heard sonic booms. They were always crashing. We had Lightnings and Hunters on our base.
the large double decker jet in the models is a A380 .. which is no longer in production as its far to costly to use many main ops are phasing them out like they are the 747
Strange how one can be so facinated by Planes, but hates flying! Btw, the writing "anvisiert" on the picture of the guy coming in with his "landing tackle down" is, "Targeted". How can one film upsind down and not notice it... I had to get my daughter in, coz she can do a Headstand...., but she told me to just turn over the Laptop, as she was wearing a skirt today!! Otherwise, another good and interesting video, thanks.

The flying wing looked like the forerunner of the Horten HO229 fighter/ bomber

What a great place, that cockpit was amazing totally analogue, no ECUs there except the one between the pilots ear's.
@@randomcol1378 haha I like that about the ECU. Thanks for watching.
Ok, so bikes.. check. Planes.. check. Just need guitars, and you'll have covered the full set of my obsessions!
@@captaincrash9286 you need some steam and diesel trains too!
@Triumph_2000 and books.. lots of books.... mostly about bikes, planes, and guitars.... manuals.... old tools...

That was fabulous! 😁👍❤
Just think of the technology in that building and the people it took to design and build it all mind blowing.
We are sons of true pioneers
yet our sons don't look capable of making anything of that magnitude😂
Great stuff Craig 👍
Thanks for sharing this video most appreciated while you are on holiday keep safe mate
Brave men who flew such aircraft.

That place was really cool
Can you imagine the logistics and insurance costs of transporting the Wright Bros. aeroplane?
I expect they just flew it there.... 😉
@@captaincrash9286 😂😂😂😂
They need to hook up a speaker to the starter button.. 😲
The one you were sitting in was a German plane? Can imagine how difficult it is to fly but even worse for a German as everything in English!
Good morning Craig
Turning out quite well this trip, huh?...
I'll tell you the UK and the USA must be the same cuz that little piece would have been going off the plane and graffiti somewhere
what a place! i never went there even though i was in the neighborhood many times
Everythings upside down mate
That's for the Australian viewers.
