Good energy, decent song, enjoyed the performance.

Doc wanted to be a performance artist and often has a few words at the start of the song meant as art. Also the lead guitarist never moves, started out because he had no way of knowing where Doc would go but became his thing. Stayed in one spot all night with moving while playing blistering guitar

They are an Aussie classic pub rock band, lots of material, recommend "shadow boxer" or "take a long line" next. Enjoyed that, thank you gentlemen

"[Kinks singer] Ray Davies was very paranoid; he thought Doc was stealing his thunder," recalls John Brewster so Davies kicked the Angels off the tour in America. Peace out.

Hey fellas The Angels were an amazing act live. You have to check ivory stairs , face the day, fashion and fame and shadow boxer. Doc was the most energetic frontman I’ve witnessed

I have to keep in mind that I'm in my 60's now, and am watching relatively young men from the UK ''reacting'' to a time and place that they know nothing about.
That is understandable, because asides from Paul Hogan and Barry Humphries, Australians didn't have much of a voice back in the 70's and 80's. It wasn't easy explaining how intense, cathartic and addictive the Australian live music scene was in that time period. AC/DC, Midnight Oil, The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Cold Chisel, Divinyls, INXS (they could rock when they wanted to), Hoodoo Gurus, Radio Birdman, The Saints.. The list goes on. There are bands that didn't even make it that were killing it in the live music scene. What was developing was a sound of its own and if you listen to more of those bands, you start to sense a thing in their music and performance. The bands had to be at this level because the audience could kill them. That's why Bon Scott's AC/DC are an Australian band. Brian Johnson's AC/DC has very little to do with Australia. Bon Scott's AC/DC didn't spearhead the Australian musical environment. They were shaped by it.
Heed to this: Ray Davies placed barrier tape on stage because The Angels were a threat as an opening act for The Kinks. He didn't want some common colonial band upstaging his tired band when they were touring the US.
I don't know if The Angels took The Sex Pistols very seriously. They were much older than the Pistols, and had a considerable amount of history in Australia prior to this performance. They took a lot more cues from Status Quo and The Faces in their early days, but I doubt The Sex Pistols would have been anything more to them than an indicator of changing trends. In Australia, we got everybody's music and very few countries got our music. When The Jam and Pistols get brought into this, it comes off sounding a tad naive to somebody that lived through this period. Bily Idol has NOTHING do with Doc Neeson. You've got to be kidding. The Angels were The Angels... Simple as that.

    Absolutely 💯 agree.
The sound is very Sex Pistols mixed with Billy Idol with a vibe of Jagger.
    It's quite good.

Another new one for me. Nicely choreographed dance moves.😄 Reminiscent of several bands in the past. High energy for sure. Pretty impressive, but would have been better with just a bit of banjo in it. Thanks for another fun reaction guys.- Hawk

In 1979, I went to the High school across the road from Latrobe University, (Latrobe High School). I was only about 14 and me and a few mates would wag school and hang out around the Uni trying to dodge the security guards and ride the elevators. I clearly remember seeing an Angels poster at the time at the Uni and I reckon it was for this gig. Too young to go and see them at the Uni in '79 though I saw them plenty of times years later. Never forgot the poster on the wall.

The Angels were three guys that looked like hit men with a frantic drummer and a singer that looked like a manic James Bond. They had songs about the seedy criminal underworld of Australia and Australia after dark. Some people commenting have no idea what they're listening to here.

You guys haven't listened to enough rock music if The Sex Pistols spring to mind. Nobody in Australian pub music scene was thinking punk when The Angels were doing this.

I love The Angels but I’d have to say this is one of their shittier tracks. They have a large catalogue of a lot better. You’ve rated this one highly but there’s better to explore that might bring you more joy- ‘Take a Long Line’, ‘She Keeps no Secrets’, ‘Dogs are Talking’, ‘Marseille’ for starters…
Doc served in the Australian Army during Vietnam so he was fit. After leaving the army, he studied Film and Drama (a component of which is movement). He was more of a performer, songwriter than he ever was a singer and we loved him for it. 🙂

Not wrong, wouldn't have made their top 30.
