RIP Chet JR White. I remember listening since day one as a 14 year old kid. Here I am 12 years later still listening endlessly. They've been the soundtrack of my life, through the ups and downs, love and heartbreak. They truly helped me navigate through this hectic journey of life and will always be an important part of my life. Thank you for everything.
Five years later and this is like one of the best indie songs of all time. It's sad how fast the time passes here on Earth. Maybe I should move to some other planet further from the sun?

Finally a band from San Francisco who really capture the culture, finding solace in the friends and moments you want to hang onto to forever. They've already transcended being just a local band. This reminds me of 10+ years ago when you could literally just work at a coffee shop or whatever job and be able to pay all your rent/bills while still being able to just chill on your off days and not have to worry about anything. You could stay at home and smoke all day, go out for a walk/hike/bike ride, invite friends over just to chill. These days are long past gone. also rip Chet!
I went to SXSW with only $30 in my pocket one time back in 2010, yet still was able to comfortably stay there for almost an entire week. Yes I slept on friends couches and def hustled a few people too, but there were so many places where i could get free stuff, food, drinks, etc. plus watch the bands. Nowadays that shit would cost hundreds of dollars to even be somewhat comfortable. Plus American apparel is dead and has been for a while. The “hipster” moment is over and long gone!
During the recession 2008 to 2015, everything was cheap. Rent booze cigarettes food. Now there is no economic recession and lots of jobs, but that really only benefits corporations and tech workers. Rent goes up, cost of living goes up. Quality of life goes down. Being a hipster now is a rich people thing. Life as we knew it is over, the romance of life really has slipped away.

I believe it. I’m here now in 2023 and it doesn’t feel like that now. There is still beauty here though. This video reminds me of being a student in Halifax in the summer of 2010. I can imagine that being 20 in SF in the 2000s could have been extremely special.

Heard Girls for the first time last Saturday night (sunday morning?) at 4:00 AM on top of Twin Peaks in SF. There were five of us nestled together between the rocks, it was bitter cold and windy up on the mountain and we were taking turns trying to play a cheap nylon string guitar while our hands kept freezing. One of my friends started playing Hellhole Ratrace, and people started singing. It was so beautiful. Love my friends, love SF, thanks to Girls for the memory. Keep making heart music.
