They had a cool song on an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba called "What's Up, Clown" that still slaps to this day.
It's a shame they didn't produce more hits. I was more than ready for an indie group back then that sounded like The Cure.
This song always sounded like The Cure to me too.

@@maria-melek I've lived in a lot of cities in the US, including SF and Portland, and the only place in the US I know that has ever had Indie Dance clubs is Jacksonville, FL where I lived in the 00s and knew the Black Kids. The singer (Reginald Youngblood), the drummer (Kevin Snow), and myself used to all DJ in Indie Dance Clubs there back then. I'm not sure if there's still a thriving Indie scene there, but when I moved there in 1999, it had been going strong since the mid-80s. It was a blast to be able to go out and dance to stuff like Pixies, New Order, My Bloody Valentine, and Blur as if it was the latest hit by *NSYNC or 'Lil Wayne. When I moved from there to SF (around the time the first Black Kids LP dropped) there were a couple of great Indie nights here and there, but the scene seemed less about music and dancing and more about fashion. In Jacksonville, FL it was a whole-ass multigenerational scene, comprised of (easily) a couple thousand people who could be found divided between indie clubs, live shows, and house parties on any given night... ALL with a strong tendency toward ass-shaking.

Yes it was. It was said in an interview , the lead singer's sister, the pianst , It was an inside joke between the both of them, bc she was in love with this straight girl.

There's Jennifer, only back then we were tight, sisters practically, people found it hard to believe that a babe like Jennifer would associate with a dork like me. Sandbox love never dies.

Jesus the Strokes really were THAT influential in the 2000s
You’re right!!!
I thought of 11th dimension while watching this for the first time
They still are
The Strokes in the 2000s were so refreshing
don't forget Franz Ferdinand and Modest Mouse
This sounds nothing like the Strokes to me. A lot of bands existed back then before 45 year old men started writing pop songs for teens full time. Now, it’s a lot of over produced nepo babies touring in private jets. Very sad how the music inducted ended up.
We still have amazing music though. Allie X, still like Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae, Megan The Stallion, Christine and the Queens, Snow Tha Product, TV on the Radio, The National, Kendrick Lamar, Toddrick Hall, Shea Coulee, Vitallic, LCD , Grines, Peaches is still around, Fiona Apple is still around, Bjork. too many to list etc . But the top 40 are usually indistinguishable 20 somethings whose parents pay producers or radio stations to play their music until people were told to like them
Heard this on Jennifer's Body and was instantly thrown into my childhood memories. Love it so much still
Underrated lesbian anthem 🤗
@Gengar Phantom the song was written by a girl. Regardless, youre a dickhead.

The amount of ‘lesbian in love with a straight girl’ vibes I get from this song is ridiculous.
well that's the song lol
@@c9inglul129 The irony is that it was written and sang by a man, and that it isn’t a gay unrequited love song. The singer has stated that the only reason he says “You are the girl, that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl” (the main line that makes this song sound as if it’s by a lesbian) is because it’s a reference to his own childhood, and how his older sister would call him a little girl even though he was actually a little boy.
@@stitchedmouthgirl interesting bit of googling that response lead to. In some quite old interviews, he states that he added it because the song was otherwise boring. I think he was spot on lmao
@@c9inglul129 I agree 😄
@@mr.herring5854 Actually it’s a reference to how his sister used to use she/her pronouns for him when he was young. I know it’s not meant to sound lesbian but it still comes off that way.
