  • I have only 2” height space from my patio ground to the sliding door, and I don’t want break the concrete, so I can not use any dimensional lumber whatever for joists or decking board. So I use 3/4×1-1/2 pvc trim board for joists and 1” composite decking board, it’s totally height is only 1-3/4”, and the pvc board can also avoid rot. To prevent blocking water drain under deck, I trimmed 1” wide tunnel every 3” on the pvc board. For connect the pvc board, I only use staples, because I don’t want break any pipeline underground, and it also save me plenty time from drilling into concrete. They can not been moved after screw decking board on them. For the steps, you have to screw it into the concrete, but you don’t worry about any pipeline under it.

    I'm so happy to have watched your video. Right now I'm in the middle of doing something very very similar. Except I made my back patio bigger. It's been giving us a hard time. With the help of your video it is going to be really easier now. Thank you.

    Great job. I read one of the comments and you replied that the cost was around $1,500, how many square ft do you cover? What spacing did you use on the PVC strips? Thanks.

    I know your slab is different from mine however, let’s say my slab is in my backyard and doesn’t have a drainage system how would you deal with water management? Curious because I like the low profile deck but am struggling to find ideas on how to deal with drainage issues and I want a decked version of a Arizona room to turn my covered space into a controlled outdoor room style?

    • @JW-uq3it
      @JW-uq3it  Před rokem

      My patio has drain hole in the corner, so I don’t have that problem. But I think if your slab have some angle to make water flow to some direction, it will still working the same way after putting deck on.

    If I wanted to join the pvc to my concrete, how would I? Would I use small sized concrete anchors in the pvc maybe around the edges of perimeter?

    • @JW-uq3it
      @JW-uq3it  Před 2 lety +1

      You may want use flat head concrete anchors at least 2” long, and predrill holes into the concrete. actually I did use some on the steps.

    What size screws did you use to connect the composite deck to the PVC? Also when you drilled the holes i assume you only went through the decking and the pvc strip correct? Im doing the exact project around my pool now!!

    • @JW-uq3it
      @JW-uq3it  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I use 1-1/2” screws, just go through deck and PVC strips.

    Could you use a Trex decking board since it already is notched out?

    I like your idea. Where to get PVC trim board?

  • @pietropie
    @pietropie Před 2 lety

    Why did you strip the paint on the slab before laying out the PVC board?

    • @JW-uq3it
      @JW-uq3it  Před 2 lety +3

      Because the paint is waterproofed, I removed it to increase water absorption of the concrete surface. Otherwise it will take a long time to dry up when the slab gets wet, especially if you put deck on it.

    @CdA_Native Před 2 lety +4

    The composite boards you used have grooves for clips. Why did you decide not to use the clips?

    • @JW-uq3it
      @JW-uq3it  Před 2 lety +8

      Because the length of screw come with hidden fasteners is longer than the height of sleeper system.

      @JW-uq3it  Před 2 lety

      Yes, I didn’t fix the sleep system on the ground, because I don’t want damage any pipeline and also don’t want drill any holes in the slab. But it still not movable.
