- Circular Saw For Beginners Masterclass: bit.ly/3omII1I .With Christmas fast approaching, it's time to get those nagging jobs done before your guests arrive. This particular nagging job has been 5 years in the making 😂 I need to build a deck over the concrete that we currently have leading off our rear doors to the backyard. The issue is that l have very little clearance from the top of the concrete to the top of my new deck.
In todays video we look at how l managed to overcome that little issue to finish up with a beautiful looking deck.
Enjoy 👍😁🇦🇺
I hope you enjoy it 👍😁🇦🇺

Came to unclog my toilet. Stayed for the instructions on how to build a deck over concrete that I don’t have.
Hahahahaha....hope the toilet was unclogged 🤞🤞
Ahh the old clogged toilet. Keep your mouth closed when using a plunger, that’s all I’ll say about that

I have done some woodworks in the past but this woodwork plan czcams.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG helps me do much in a far lesser time than i used to do i have already built several projects with this plan and i intend to do many more soon. Thank you so much!
When you slid the straight edge over the joists, super satisfying.
Yeah l love doing that Billy.....l'm never happy till l can do that 😂 Thanks for watching mate and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
What no nail gun or sledgehammer? The best deck construction skills and techniques I've seen. Well done Sir that was a lot of high quality detailed work I have just watched. You are a dying breed.
👍😁.....Thanks Jim! Really appreciate the feedback mate and l'm glad you found the vid useful. Cheers 👍🇦🇺😁
I've been searching for months on how to build a deck with clearance like this and this video has never appeared in the results until now for some reason. Glad I've finally got to watch it. This looks amazing and looks easy enough for a knucklehead like myself to complete! Thanks.
No worries at all mate and good luck with it 👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
@@diyforknuckleheads No worries, one quick question.. How did you decide on the length of the decking? I see you've staggered them in a pattern. If I'm going 4.2m long would you do one run with 2 x 2.1m pieces and one with a 1.05m, 2.1m and 1.05m and then repeat that out?
Should look into deckcell, 30mm plastic cell you deck over
No issues with timber rotting
@@octane_mattyStill need something under to make it level.
Ahoy! All hands on deck ..... me hearties.
Great job Knackers.
Keep 'er lit Bro!

Fabulous! Thanks for sharing your art! Ive never seen such amazing attention to quality on deck build. Many useful tips there. Chrz
👍😁....Thanks mate! Glad you liked it and thanks for taking the time to watch. Cheers 👍😁🇦🇺
Beautiful job! Love the tips - very practical. Staggered spacing looks very nice.
Yeah Erik...staggering the screw pattern looks really cool 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
What an outstanding job, Shane. The deck is beautiful. Thanks for sharing this build with us.
My pleasure Pt....Thanks as always for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄🎄
Looks gorgeous! Good job indeed! And recording it all for us to learn from: Extra hat off to you!

Not all heros wear capes.... Never thought of this before... Very cool.
Cheers Michael! Glad you liked it mate 👍😁🇦🇺
As a carpenter for most of my life
I can say
You have some really good tips
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching and for the feedback 👍😁🇦🇺
That deck looks amazing and I love the staggered fixing, might have to try that on my next build.
Another great video. 👍👍👍
Cheers
Thanks Robert 👍👍 Yeah mate....staggering is the way to go for sure 👍😁🇦🇺
Staggering may be good for reducing and hopefully eliminating splitting of the joist, but it just looks strange to me. Guess I like the more uniform single line. Hey but what ever floats your boat!
Beautiful deck! I love the variations in color and shine of the material! And screw placement is spot on!
Yeah it turned out pretty sweet Jason 👍 Thanks for the feedback mate and for watching 👍😁🇦🇺🎄

Excellent Video and a very neat and tidy job 👌👌
good work and lovely video hahaha
good style, keep ahead.
👍😁....Cheers mate! Appreciate the feedback 👍😁🇦🇺
Bully of a deck! Your tip for getting a tight joint fit was great and one to remember. Liked the screwing template too! Enjoy your summer....we're covered in snow here in Norway. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Cheers, Scotty
Thanks Scotty! Our weather could not be more different 👍....stay warm mate and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
oh man, that came up a treat, nicely done! I don't think I've ever seen someone use the string line on each run of decking, that's some dedication to getting the perfect line! 👍👍
Mario....l'm a sucker for a straight line mate 😂😂 .....l'm a little OCD when it comes to that kind of stuff. Great catching up last week too mate 👍👍😁🇦🇺
Looks fantastic Nackers, love the way you take pride in your work. Your workmanship is outstanding, thanks for sharing your skills with us.. cheers mate.
👍😁..my pleasure Pasquale! Glad you liked the video mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
Awesome tips and tricks and your results are amazing, came out beautiful.
Appreciate that Thom👍👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🎄🎄
Beautiful.
I never realized how the staggered spacing could be beneficial. Definitely a great tip.
Yeah it certainly has benefits Will and l reckon it looks better than straight screw hole lines 👍 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄
The deck looks fantastic. This was very informative and interesting to see how to install a deck over concrete. And, as usual, very entertaining. Love the jokes.
Glad you found the video useful Jim and thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
That looks epic - awesome job. Learning a lot from you so thanks for sharing your skills
My pleasure mate! Thanks for taking the time to watch 👍😁🇦🇺
Excelente Shane. Love the timber colour and edge finish.
Cheers Edward....yeah mate, pretty happy how it turned out 👍 Thanks for watching mate and Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
Brilliant video Shane, loved the tips and dedication to 'straightness'. I'm a tad OCD when it comes to level/straightness as well. The deck looked a million dollars mate!
" Dedication to straightness" ........lol....
Cheers for that Kevan! Yeah mate, crooked lines really bug me 😬 Thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
This was a great help in planning to recover my concrete patio. Quick question for you! What did you call the plastic spacers you used between the concrete and lumber? I'm am not finding anything quite like it exactly in the US.
Thanks Chris 👍 The plastic spacers are called Window Packers" Carpenters use this to level up their windows during the window installation process. Over here in Australia you can buy them from any major Big Box hardware store. Good luck 👍😁🇦🇺
@@dengshomeinvasions1273 They'd need to be stainless steel or galvanised, but plastic would be better to avoid rust.
Great Job Knackers!!!! Thanks it looks amazing!
Appreciate that Gary! Hope you're having a great weekend mate 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
How gorgeous is that!! I was enjoying this so much, I thought it ended too soon! Outstanding, Uncle Knackers!
Thanks Juliet! Glad you liked it 👍😁🇦🇺🎄
I don't remember the last time I loved a Dad Joke, but this one was a Winner!!!
Question: Why in the world would anyone go to all that trouble to build a deck? I'll tell you why. Because you needed an awesome Christmas video to put up on your channel to impress all your subscribers. Seriously impressed!! How long did it take you to build it? (Not including the five years it took you to 'Get Around To It') Loved the video, Shane! Merry Christmas, you Knucklehead you!!!
Thanks Sandi! It was a little back breaker that took me close to three weeks to knock over 😬 A little time consuming but well worth it 👊 Appreciate you taking the time as usual to watch and l hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas 👍😁🇦🇺🎄🎄
I love Tip 1. I’m going to be using that everywhere. Thanks for another great video. And that decking looks absolutely amazing.
Tip number one works an absolute treat mate👍👍 Glad you liked the deck Steve and thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺🎄

Best floating deck video ever. I plan to build a desk that is slightly lower than floor, and it will leave me with 4 inches for the deck's height. Perhaps going to use 2x4 or 2x4 on top on 2x2.

One of the guys in my Jobsite has that same DeWalt drop saw, it's a beast and the shadow line makes it so fast to cut timber.
Nothing more satisfying than when the straight edge slides perfectly across.

I like all of it except the explanation of timber against timber. You've created a pocket between the deck post and the floor framing with a gab. I can only assume the spacers are fastened to the floor which means water will stick in that pocket for a long time.
Awesome, mate! Just what I've been needing to know for my own concrete decking project. I've been delaying it because I had no idea what to do with that transition from the sliding door. Now I know! Simple, really. Simple but a lot of work still.
