      It takes two to tango. It might be that Joshua improved or that Ruiz was totally unprepared or a bit of both. To be honest, AJ didnt look as sharp and dominant as Ruiz looked heavy, out of boxing shape and unprepared.

      I'm an AJ fan I think there's something dark going on. I don't doubt AJ's boxing skill or his talent but I just there's something not right....I mean all of a sudden Ruiz is like a weak fighter and can't do much. I did expect a lot from this fight as I wanted a tough competition unlike this one. I hope I'm wrong

    • @Nuvendil
      @Nuvendil Před 4 lety +8

      @@gabadu529 Ruiz wound up in a stylistic mismatch. He is a fighter that wants a street fight, up close and personal. He believed that just like last time, AJ would stick him until he got an opening and then come inside and fight Ruiz's fight. Instead, Joshua fought almost entirely behind his jab and one-two combinations. He moved laterally rather than forward and back. Ruiz couldn't get him to fight his fight and even when he started breaking clinches, AJ was too quick to get away.
      AJ was also very tactical. He didn't throw his usual volume shots, but he threw calculated powershots that went a long way to keeping Ruiz cautious. The sequence surrounding the first round right that cut Ruiz was critical because it put three things in Ruiz's mind: AJ would nail him whenever he gave even a small opening when in range, AJ could hurt him, and AJ had the discipline to do the damage and move on.
      These well timed power shots had Ruiz's hands up in high guard almost all night, trying to navigate past Joshua's jab without throwing many lead punches. Adding to this, Joshua knew when to mix up his punches.
      As Ruiz began to time his counters against Joshua in the mid rounds, he used Ruiz's anticipation to bait him into incorrectly guarding. Round 6 is the most obvious example. Joshua moved his lead hand as if to jab and Ruiz moved his left hand forward to parry and his right hand to counter over the jab. But as soon as Ruiz began to go for it, AJ snapped a hard hook over his lowered right guard, stunning Ruiz.
      And AJ's jab was accurate and heavy, routinely snapping Ruiz's head back.
      This all had Ruiz moving forward at a plodding pace, always with his guard up. Making him slower still was AJ's constant feints, foot feints/footwork, and changing direction. Ruiz's hands were always kept busy, moving into position to block perceived threats.
      This is a brief, rough breakdown but tl;dr, Joshua's tactics defused Ruiz by depriving him of his greatest weapon: fast combinations at close range. Ruiz couldn't force AJ to fight his fight. None of this was helped by Ruiz not losing weight and in fact coming in a bit heavier which did nothing to help his mobility. Again, moat likely on the assumption AJ was going to fight his fight.

No politics, Ruiz isn't even complaining about the decision. And for the record, not a Mayweather fan, I don't even think he's the greatest of all time in any of the weight classes he fought in (Hearns, Robinson > Mayweather), Ruiz just got beat.
      As for ducking...I mean, I could have told you at least 50% if not more of this nonsense surrounding division-wide unification is businesses and another 25% at least is sanctioning body and broadcasting company politics. Of the multiple challenges rumored and official offered by Wilder and Joshua towards each other, we know at least one fell apart due to that nonsense.

      @@Nuvendil , I can realize the jab was the excuse of the judges . Also the height ,and reach came into play here in , what was supposed to be a great rematch . Still I think back and remember championship bouts in the grandest division of all of boxing. Guess what ? The champion does not have to be at their tip top game to at the very least get a split decision. Why ? Any of us that know a bit of boxing can explain to the rest of us who don't . You have to beat the champ, the champ does not have beat you . Simple. In June A.J was dismantled, he was disected . By the time the first fight was called by the ref. You , myself ,and everybody who witnessed Ruiz do the unthinkable to a champion who , an hour pervios to the beating he took Ruiz Jr. Was questionably the best of the division. You can realize that the top names of the division are not turning heads in the folks at home . Most people still bring up kilitko ! So if you think politics played no part in a decision to place the titles back on A j ? Ok , you have a right to your opinion. But for me and you too believe that even with the promise that the two time champion of the world has he has. He would have truly put the stamp on the 3rd installation of this new rivalry . I am a Joshua fan. I think his form ,, style and combos are awesome . Then I like at the two battles between Ruiz Jr ,and Joshua . Then I look a the past Six months and how the other champ Wilder has been dominating two classic bouts . And if I was Joshua's camp I would like to believe that Joshua can find a way to win . But Ruiz exposed him in the match back in June . Sad to see, is when Joshua could silence critics and stand in front of the man who did that he didn't . Instead he used his reflexes , and speed to avoid any and all of Ruiz punches. With that said , The current champ out classed the former champ. The 3rd fight I can't wait for. Cause we are going to be different Ruiz Jr. Hunger is a understatement I do believe . Unification will take place in 2020 . I now thinks Wilder will be the one who unifies the titles . But we'll see. Bottom line is that at the end of the day. You need to, you have to, and with out question beat the champ . The champion does not have to beat you.

The idea of transforming your style to win a fight doesn't have a great track record. Frazier tried it in his second Foreman fight and it didn't work, Joe Bugner tried it with Ali and it didn't work. Most fighters, the moment they get tagged with a hard hit, they fall back on instinct, like with Frazier. Or they just botch the whole new style and lose, like Bugner.
