  • Jim Braude was joined by Boston Public Radio co-host and Boston Globe columnist, Margery Eagan; Boston Globe Spotlight team reporter Michael Rezendes; and founder of the New England chapter of Survivors Network of Those Abused, Phil Saviano -also a church abuse survivor - to discuss the emotional toll of the church abuse scandal after Cardinal Bernard Law’s death.

What this didn't really address was the floodgate opened up and showed just how pervasive all this abuse was around the WORLD, not just in Boston and the US. It was a global cancer and the list of countries and cities etc was shown in the end credits of the Spotlight film.

Australia’s Cardinal George Pell was convicted and sentenced to 7 years in jail but just recently his conviction was overturned and he was released. Pell knew about all the abuse in his many parishes and he hid and covered it all up for years. Eventually he himself was charged with sexually abusing two young boys, one who subsequently committed suicide. Pell’s free now but his career is finished and his an old man. He claims his innocence. So many victims across the world. Pell covered up so much abuse here and he participated in the abuse. The damage his done is irreversible.

I don't think that this went on because the bishops were ignorant of the harm done to children. I believe that the Church is full of corruption and blackmail which often prevents any of the guilty facing justice.

I mean that’s already been proven. There are copious documents that have shown that higher ups in the church actively tried to cover up the problem to save face. They put more value on the church’s public image than on the safety and well-being of children. Disgraceful. St Peter would be ashamed of these men.

It IS disgusting and it IS a slap in the face to survivors! How can Catholics continue to go to churches where this is covered up by leadership and no accountability? It is beyond me why there isn't a mass exodus of parishioners from the Catholic church. Is is possible the parishioners themselves are having the attitude of "Let sleeping dogs lie" because all these offenses did not involve their OWN family members? Those parishioners with that silence in essence become enablers themselves.

Catholicism (the FIRST Christian institution) was the foundation of western civilization. The horrific abuse that has taken place was committed by a "relative" handful of wicked men who should be punished to the full extent of the law - but don't forget, there are hundreds of thousands of good priests in the world, and the Catholic congregation is 1.3 BILLION strong worldwide. The Catholic Church is still the largest institution helping the poor around the globe, where priests and nuns often place their own lives at risk in many third-word countries (and many priests and nuns have been murdered in the process). But answer this... if the same scandal was discovered about protestant pastors (and it still could be), would that be a good enough reason for protestants to stop worshiping, and would they stop going to their churches? I doubt it. And the same applies to other faiths.
What is severely neglected is the genuine reason why this abuse took place. Freemasons tried for centuries to destroy the Catholic Church from without, and they constantly failed. So decades ago, they decided to change tactics and destroy it from within by infiltrating it with "their people". It worked. Those infiltrators over those many decades managed to work their way up the chain of command, hence the coverups by them. It would be wonderful if a group of dedicated journalists thoroughly investigated THAT and then made a movie about it, however, I doubt it will ever happen considering how many Freemasons exist in very high places, including Hollywood!
Read “Infiltration” by Taylor R. Marshall. A book about how communist, Freemasons, and ped0philes infiltrated and took over the Catholic hierarchy.

Jesus said, "Those things whispered in the darkness will be shouted from the rooftops in the light." He also said that anyone who causes a little one to fall would be better off having a millstone tied around his neck and being thrown into the sea. The Roman catholic church is NOT Christian.....their traditions and teachings go directly against the Bible and the words of Christ...."Call NO man 'Father', for you have one Father, and He is in heaven." That's just one example; I could give dozens more. Read the Bible for yourself.

The Catholic Church records of shielding child molester is starting to come out in South America and Africa.
Sociopaths exist everywhere and there is a specific percentage of the population.
I worry when the number is below the mean.
It’s like cancer. If the reported number of cancer in a certain population is 5 percent, then there would be a lot of concern because we know it’s between 13 to 17 percent.
