You are a dad to me cos I really appreciate your relentless effort in educating us. You provide us with the most important skills in blacksmithing. Now with you I could be able to apply my high school drawing skill in blacksmithing and general fabrication.
Making a scroll jig is a time consuming job or for me it is. Very lovely piece sir. Now I know what my 78 year old mother is getting for mother's day next year.
Here is a video that might help out czcams.com/video/ieZAeG9oDjI/video.html
@@BlackBearForge Thanks
I like this guys idea of thinking about next year. that's about how long my projects work into
Good job ! Greatings from Lithuania !
black bear forge is dope. so relaxing to watch.
Nice John, as much as it gets in your craw and fires up the OCD tendencies we have I think sometimes when its handmade its just handmade and thats the way it is!😂 Make it look good, it’s functional and usable let it be! These types of things are not gallery pieces and the stove they sit on will never know the difference! Good work mate, thanks for the video!🇦🇺👍
Thanks!
You are very welcome, thank you for the support
I've been inspired by your work for quite a few years now, John. Great demonstrations and a willingness to share skills and knowledge. You are generous, entertaining and informative.
My pleasure!
The fiddley bits is a fun saying. Have a wonderful week sir. 👏👏👏
Quite useful that anvil shelf, right? These scrolls have something medieval to them that is really appealling to the eye
Fascinating!
i really like that
A handcrafted work with precision and impressive beauty. Awesome!
Thank you so much 😀
Your channel is one of my favorites. Your craftsmanship is amazing. Thank you for sharing your content
Thanks for watching!
I think it's time for me to make a scroll jig. I think your scroll trivet looks awesome. Keep up the good work and God bless.
Thanks 👍
Good morning, John! Looks like another great project you've done.
Morning!
I really love the way you had all those gauges set up on those rings. That's an awesome way to keep your work uniform for years! I'll definitely be bringing your idea to my shop! Thanks for providing awesome content for other smiths out there!
Very nicely done! I appreciate the measurements, too, as this is something I've been thinking about making for quite awhile.
Great video! Beautiful design! Looks so simple until you start making one! Adjusting scrolls in two planes really takes time and patience! But the result is so rewarding! Awesome work! And the anvil is just gorgeous!!! =)
Yay. Another project, jk. Awesome work as usual. This has inspired me to try it.
Have fun!
Been waiting for more scroll work, thank you for showing us. Not many videos on scroll work out there, usually hammers, tongs, axes, hatchets, and nail headers.
Great job John! Another fine video explaining how it really goes!!! Thanks again for what you do.
Years ago you made the comment that - forging is fast. Fiddling is forever.
That's tried & true. 😆
Quite the process, not for the impatient!
Hello John
That looks very good a bit keltic in a way .
Thank you for sharing your skills.
Take care have a happy week
Yours Frank Galetzka
Thanks, you too!
@@BlackBearForge good morning John.
If i would live near you i would visit you for a Coffee .
Take care yours Frank Galetzka
Thanks for the great video John, the trivet turned out great. We always enjoy watching how you correct the little imperfections that a striking hammer can make so easily then you have to correct that and show folks how to save the project. Patients and persistence will overcome . Stay safe and keep up the great work and fun around there. Fred.
fun video John. Most of the things I've done over the decades have involved scrolls. The fiddly bits are the fun, and sometimes the bane of some projects...
Thanks, John, for the nice video. I've been trying to make Tobjorn Ahman's version of this 3-scroll trivet for holiday gifts this year. I spent quite a bit of time with a torch making them all pretty close. It's no small thing for a hobby blacksmith to produce 3 identical pieces! On Tobjorn's design, it's held together by a single rivet where the tail of one scroll contacts the mid-point of another scroll. Unfortunately, the scrolls are all floppy as I can't seem to get the rivets tight enough. The double rivet and the overlap on your design make this a non-issue.
is one nice piece of work. It took a bit of work to get it there but I think it was worth the effort. 👍👍Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Nice job on the patients John, love the little trivet.
Wow! You really are a master of the art.
Love it . Just awesome
What a great design. I was bullish to try one at the beginning of the video, but by the end I'm not sure I'm ready for it.
I've been making trivet as gifts and rivets scare me, time to broaden my horizon and do some rivets!!!
I appreciate the way you teach. I just made a few steak flippers. They are all different and yet very similar. Thank you for what you do.
I'm glad the videos are helpful. Have fun
Great video as always. This turned out very well there. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. God Bless.
I think I might be able to make this with a slot cut in my 2" s hook form.
Another fantastic video sir. Gotta like a project that requires a bunch of fiddling.
John, those trivets looks good
Just as an anecdote. The enamel kettle in the video is a finnish Finel design product ;-) Peter from Finland
Yes it is, Janet has several
I noticed it too! ❤
Nice! The triskele symbol is personal to me, and I use it in my touchmark.
Шикарная подставка !
I like Bear Dude! TFS, GB :)
Nice one John
That was great! Would love to make one of these!
Without the testing piece or jig already made, how do you know the scroll type you need to make? I guess that not all scrolls will join in a circle like this one.
Start with a full size drawing and make the the scrolls to fit.
Здравствовать тебе, Отец, хорошая работа, благодарю за науку, с приветом из далекой снежной РОССИИ, с самой середины морозной СИБИРИ
That was a fun project to watch.
turned out great.
I like the fiddling
I forget, do you have a scroll jig video?
Army
Its an older video, but it should help out czcams.com/video/ieZAeG9oDjI/video.html
Interesting hardy tool at about 7:50 of the video. What do you call it? 30 plus years ago I worked as a metal fabricator for a place that made custom furniture. We would make our own scrolling jigs for whatever the customer wanted. We didn't work with forges but would heat up the material with a torch and clamp the jig in a vise. When they closed the doors they told us to take any jigs we had made. Still have mine but have never used them for blacksmithing. I'm going to have to dig them out and give this project a try. Thanks for sharing.
Thats called a bridge tool.
@@BlackBearForge Thank you, looks very useful.
Hey John would copper rivets work also. Dress it up a little. No need for any rivets on the inside scrolls. Thx my friend. Merry Christmas. Paul. 🇺🇸⚒🔥
They should be fine, this isn't under a lot of stress in use.
Im forging my trivit out of 10mm round it has a flat end with taper for the scroll work but the rest is round the most difficult part i find is getting the top surface flat with the two different surfaces so the pot still rocks any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you
Are those scrolling tongs a bit springy? Seems like those long jaws would try twisting themselves if the workpiece was a bit colder 🤔
👍✌️
John, my question is slightly off topic. I see that you are still using Johnson's Paste Wax. I just finished several bottle openers for Christmas gifts and realized that I needed to reorder more wax. It was then that I realized that it had been discontinued. Is there an alternative that you would recommend? Love the trivet.
A mix of bees wax, linseed oil and mineral spirits is pretty close. Minwax works well or even straight bees wax.
Nice sir jan🌹☀️
Good morning
Morning
is that a hammer from brent bailey?
Yes it is
просмотрел еще раз, так и есть, перевод одним потоком только в конце ролика , наверное это новые правила??
прошу прощения, мне в самом конце ролика пришел перевод, сразу, оптом одним потоком текста во весь экран, наверное какой то технический сбой
I love your work looking for someone to make me two iron arrows that cross I am Indian & really want this piece can you do it or no someone that can I will pay please message back & thank you
интересные дела, ютуб не дает автоматического перевода субтитров, очень печально что не смог прочитать перевода твоих слов, глупая политика она вредит нормальным отношениям простых людей
💯 Agreed 👍🏼! A translation feature would be perfect!
