  • I can't thank my day one followers enough for staying down while I've been MIA with the updates! This video explains it all. It's been a crazy 4 years, watch and see what I've been up to. And if you want to join me on this journey to waist-length hair using protective styling and treatments, subscribe and stay tuned!
The wig I'm wearing in this video was custom made by an AMAZING Orlando stylist KeoAndra Coleman (@itsmekee on Instagram) I've already been wearing this wig for over a year and its still just as amazing as when I first got it.

I remember when you did your big chop. I have been following you for a long time and I will continue to follow. I will join you on this journey. We have similar stories. I was doing so many twist outs and braids out and then I got pregnant. I started wearing braids and sew-ins. Now my hair seems like it is the same length from a couple years ago. I have to find a natural stylist here in Jacksonville , FL. Good luck with your journey!

Jo Michelle...I am so thankful you made this video. I have been on my own natural hair journey for the past 3 years with crown breakage and other issues. I restarted again 5 months ago. I am too accustomed to wearing wigs and my natural hair. I often felt guilty about the lack of attention I had given to my hair when I as weighed down heavily with work, home, church, and school obligations. I am happy that you made this video and shed some light for others like me who embrace their natural hair but also wear protective styles and wigs!! I excited about your journey and incorporating new ideas, techniques and habits!! xoxxo

Wish I could love this video a million times over! I honestly missed your videos, been a LONG time subscriber. Congratulations on everything: your marriage, baby, becoming an entrepreneur, and your makeup line! I too have experienced very similar things as you have when it comes to life changes and time investment towards natural hair so it's so wonderful to be able to follow your unique and distinctive journey. I look forward to seeing your progress in months to come. Good luck! 😊

I don't have a kid, but everything else u said I've been going through...I started to feel bad about it but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one...like you said it's to the point I don't feel right with my own hair anymore either I'm wearing wigs or box braids...I'm in school and clinicals all day so I don't have the time to put in the way I did before and I definitely see a difference in my hair..and I will definitely be looking into buying that headband I hate those combs..I'll be on this journey with you!

Omg thank you for this!! I am currently 7 months pregnant and GIRL! Natural hair and pregnancy just don't mix. Twist outs and rod sets only last me like every 3-5 days; ain't nobody got time for that. So I've been straightening my hair often because it's easiest to manage that way. But it's making me sad because now I'm getting heat damage. I think after I drop my baby girl I'm going to have to start over like you. Hopefully my post partum shedding isn't too bad.

  • @Nitra813

Same here girl. I pretty much wear wore wigs after giving birth to my first. I bunned it and then just went into wigs. I keep my hair in twists pretty much every day until wash day and I keep deep condition when I can. I also keep it under wigs and don’t use heat on it. It’s been almost a year and a half and my hair looks good. My husband recently asked me why I don’t wear my own hair and again like you I had to explain to him that I don’t have the time to maintain it like I used to before we were married. Also like you I now have a goal to grow my hair to waist length as well. Wigs to waist-length. I need to get that edge grip. I see you have locked your now and it looks great.

Your makeup is gorgeous and I was just going to ask about the wig, but some of the ladies beat me to it. I;m natural too. I have been for about 15 years now, but I do love my wigs as a protective style. And the Wig Grip save your edges as well as keeping your wig in place. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi, welcome back!
Question? You said your hair journey will be different from other naturals (or something of that nature), exactly how is yours different? Maybe I missed that part....because many naturals wear wigs, oils scalp, and redo hair and/or length checks quarterly. Just asking, not starting trouble

  • @PrettyTNW

I can totally relate to not having the Time to do the twist outs and Bantu Knots. I wear Senegalese twist a lot sometimes crochet braids styles. I'm on the same journey to wait length. We can do it. 😃

I remember you from back in those K.I.S.S./Hairlista days girl, lol. After too much styling, coloring and a final press that left me with 3+ inches of heat damage all around, I'm pretty much back to where I started in 2009 too. So I'll be right here with you trying to grow my hair back. Are you thinking of using any hair growth pills while you grow your hair?

Hey, just a suggestion. To help you retain length don't redo the braids so often. Still wash and treat if you want though. I've been retaining all my growth with wigs and I keep the braids in 3/4 months at a time. HTH. Just don't want you to manipulate your hair too much and it hinders your results.

I completely understand the struggles with being pregnant. And being a humble submissive wife to my husband is extremely important and a top priority. The people that are able to produce, market and sell the wigs, weaves and hair extensions to companies in the US, are people that feel that we as so-called African American women have a low self-esteem and rely heavily upon their products to make ourselves look and feel beautiful; that without us using their fake hair, we are destitute and basically a lost cause for society. I hear your reasons for wearing the fake hair, but please consider wearing a real covering like a head scarf instead of the false hair. The fake hair comes from people who's ancestors had a huge part in the enslavement of our ancestors and I just can't understand why so many of our women choose to wear fake hair as a form of protecting the hair to reach a certain growth level. These people have and will always have a perpetual hatred for us. You mentioned that you are very active within your church....did you know that many churches do not instruct a woman to wear a covering ordained by the Most High which is mentioned in 1Corinthians 11:5. Most of if not all of the fake hair has been cursed and offered up to demonic gods and entities and then we are placing that on our heads... on top of a glorious covering( our natural hair) given to us by the Most High. I have met you in person once or twice because you were friends with one of my former friends by the name of Brianna of whom resided within the St.Pete area. Your natural hair was so gorgeous and fit you perfectly. I know that was so long ago and you were younger and in a different space within your life, but wearing fake hair is so detrimental to black women... not just in a fleshly aspect but on a very deep spiritual level. As Daughters of Zion we are supposed to be led by the Spirit and not by the flesh. I hope that you are able to receive this message without any anger because I'm coming from a very pure heart and a lot of our women don't know these things; so if no one ever speaks up then a lot of our people will forever remain in darkness and ignorance.
    Jeremiah 10:2
Thus saith Elohim, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
    Leveticus 13:30
Then the priest shall see the plague: and, behold, if it be in sight deeper than the skin; and there be in it a yellow thin hair; then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is a dry scall, even a leprosy upon the head or beard.
    1Corinthians 11:5
But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
