Passed 450s uphill like they were standing still, I been saying this for donkeys ages that 2strokes can be tuned as much if not more and way cheaper, not sure if they needed to go OTT on reducing weight esp 1/5 th gear but for the track if it works it works and is so Werkz bike! Sic saving this and linking to every 4t millennial that says 2t are dead! Good work MXA.
man this is sweet , gotta love when they restore older bikes ! I only buy older two strokes you can make them mean! And can keep up with any new bike today ..

I'm glad I picked up a nice 04 cr250 4 years ago. Don't ride it much, but I got it for those occasional rides
like seeing the purple smoke rising from MXA magazine again!
Long time coming and you can tell there's a majority that are sick and tired of that 4T pyramid.
4T = 4 times the work on the bike, 4 times the money in repairs,
4 times less likely that you'll be a privateer without a payroll and crew.
Love these 2 stroke builds!

This would be a nice bike to see in the nationals. 13 years old and still qualifying (after some strategic placement of weights of course).
Lost me with removing 4th and 5th the weight saving would be minimal not worth losing the gears

Yes that is true, but it is a race bike and they are to be pinned around every corner, so should be enough gears for racing!

What did u do to the carb and how did you get the jets right I know jetting was a problem for these bike

So you removed two gears to save weight, but didn't go with air forks? I'm not a big fan of air forks, but I would surely swap to those for likely a larger weight saving before I would give up 40% of my gears
If you only need 3 gears on the track then it won't really hurt performance but help with the weight and drag reduction. I would never do something that specialized, but can see the very minor benefit in the right situation. Air forks, while lighter, are not worth the performance reduction.
what jetting did you guys run?
Just got me an 03 Cr250r thing is a MONSTER!!! QUESTION: This bike I got has the three holes drilled just like this bike in the video can someone please shoot me a link to this modification and the jetting and reasoning to why this is necessary? Id super appreciate it!

That is one sexy bike. I'd keep all the gears, otherwise nice build. I'm usually disappointed by mag bike builds. Usually same old bs bolt on bling. At least this is unique.
What's size sprockets are you running? Did you change the ratios of the gears themselves? I get that 1st gear is useless, but 5th gear? I have a 2001 cr250 with stock gearing and I use 5th gear a lot.

I think you got it wrong I think what they meant by getting rid of 4th 5th was first and 2nd but left 3rd 4th 5th gear

There's a reason McGrath put those motors in the older steel frame.
So McGrath went into the future and brought back 97-99 CR250 motors to put in his 95-96 CR?
I use to always start in second gear, not too often you hit fifth on the track. But I woulda left the gears alone.
Would this bike have been legal at the two stroke world championships??

`i dont think it would to be honest,tractable power and suspension stabilizing engine braking is very hard to beat.
Not being rude or at least not trying to be but why make it a three speed to make it lighter when it’s already way lighter then a 450?
CR250s can go off the line on second gear but to reduce weight seems extreme

I guess you only need 3 gears if you are just gonna blast sand berms and not actually ride it.

My uncle had one of these when they first come out,I was 13 14 and used to a 125 lol I hit this jump the same as I would on my bike and this thing sent me sailing higher then I'd ever been before the one's where ya gut goes all funny like your falling but your going up to the tree tops haha I flat landed and head butted the bars and rode out with tank Slap's and then pulled over to check my undies then my uncle come up the track screaming at me because he seen the hole thing and was worried about his bike haha as you do

So now the bike is too light to be legal to race and its missing first and 5th and nuetral is in front of second. How many times you hit nuetral down shifting ??? And like its rocket science cleaning ports up , decking the head , and slapping the biggest carb on possible. Lightened flywheel ? Timing adjustment ?

A decent shape 2t holds a lot of value... 4t doesn't and they're a dime a dozen.
this engine is nearly 13 years old and still dishing out buckets of sand. Strange that 5th was dropped, but it looks right for really sandy tracks.

I have the Honda cr250r 05-07 .. is there anyone-- a shop to fix my rear factorial suspension as it is ready in the new models of honda .. such an improved racing suspension with 3 settings in upper, which reinforced shaft 18mm, (piston rod with DLC coating, anodized triple regulator and regulator regulator} .. coatings .. I have spoken with technical touch kyb in belgium has stopped producing for Honda cr250r.. can you help me? thank you ...
