You know what was so great about Mercenaries? The ATMOSPHERE. This epic music and the loudspeakers came together to make an eerily awesome atmosphere. THAT was what was butchered so bad in Mercenaries 2.
Lol I like when it plays as I use the pocket artillery on the small nk base kinda in the middle of the map 😂 (im talking about the cheat guns I already beat the game so I'm just having fun)
This reminds me of that feeling you got when you get shot down and marooned near the Black Gate, deep behind enemy lines, fighting your way out back to safety
There was a mission where a SK pilot was shot down and captured, and you have to destroy the wreckage and rescue him from a NK convoy on its way to the Black Gate. Iirc; it's been years since I've last played.
Started a new game and there's that mission and an Allies mission where you rescue soldiers from a crashed helicopter that was also near Heuk Dae Moon.
Just realized that I'm pretty sure the composer for Mercenaries is the same composer for Secret Weapons Over Normandy since they are both Lucasarts games and the tracks are so similar. Vocals especially.
What are you on about? They didn't touch Playground of Destruction, only the second lifeless stinker World in Flames... fitting title considering they burned down what could have been an incredible sequel. Knobs 🙄 If they made an awesome remaster or remake to the original game, maybe I'd overlook that second turd. But I won't hold my breath...
Okay... the second game wasn't that bad... the destructible environment was great and the cars and gadgets were cool too. Mercenaries one had some problems too... the game was too short.... yes I know that the environment and atmosphere were a lot more serious in mercs one... but dont go and call their hard work a turd... they really tried bro@@Johny40Se7en
What a song, my missions felt more epic with this playing in the background, especially stealthy ones that then turned into all out death and destruction
It's a shame geopolitics affected the making of games too much they stopped trying and instead just rehash old ones. Gone are the 2000s when video games made a statement about the new threats of not just terrorism but also the new Eastern Bloc. Always wondered how Fallout survived all this when any games trying to have China as the bad guys end up defunct. Things are weird.
@@thientuongnguyen2564 Yeah, although in the case of Fallout, China is featured more in the backdrop (except in Operation Anchorage). Even Chinese survivors in Fallout have largely formed new identities such as the Shi in Fallout 2. I'm really surprised that a game like Squad recently featured China as a faction that players can join or fight against. These days it seems common for game developers to take on a more "enemies of the west" approach where China, Russia and various Middle Eastern Countries form a coalition against NATO. Such as CSAT in Arma 3.
@@crimson6397 While that's true, you'll notice the weird thing of movies and games where it's always the Russians or Middle Easterners you fight against. At times you have Iran or North Korea, but never China. That one nation is always exempt from global conflicts and disasters even though I'm sure they're more than happy to join Russia in invading the West (especially Japan). Mainstream games always shy from having noodlespeak as the bad guys but having Vietcongs is fine. Why not both.
I remember when I'd always have to detonate a grenade or something explosive nearby to attract the passing helicopters, so one would get close enough for me to hijack it :D
The beginning ambience fits perfectly when you are using your binoculars and spotting a bunch of dangerous vehicles from a distance. It has a bit of an omnious tone and yet so relaxing, like you are preparing for something...

to me mercenaries pod is probably the best game ever of its type..all the missions were well scripted, although there was a way to do every mission very very easily if you could find it if anyone else noticed that...and the selection of weapons and air strikes and military units overwhelmed the senses! i loved the atmosphere it was a grim war worn world. and everything you did seemed important. combined with this outstanding soundtrack its as much a work of art as it is a game,
what i wish more than anything else is that the studio sat back and remembered what made mercenaries such a success in the first place..and my great hope is that those working on mercenaries 3 play pod alot!
I like the chopper controls and mounted weapon ballistics of Mercs 2 better. But the atmosphere and story of Mercs 1 is definitely better in my opinion and the realism. The gameplay of both games is very good
One day I'm driving on a old road to nowhere until I came across a Bunker full of NK soldiers. Takes out the target sighter and pin pointed directly ontop of the bunker and called for a BUNKER BUSTER!
@Zeong3 if they ever make a movie on Mercenaries it would be...Leonardo Dicaprio as Mattias Nilson,Jamie Foxx as Chris Jacobs,Gong Li as Jennifer Mui. its my only theory
@Thecuregalore94 I woke up this morning thinking of the OST for the game and I decided to look it up, then I decided to look up its wikipedia page. The game came out in 2005. SIX years ago. Wow, time flies doesn't it?
since i have to capture the queen of hearts and destroy the chem plant at the snowy mountains,i always hear this song on this mission and some others from the SK forces.
I'm just so sad that there isn't a chance of more of this game. If I win the lottery I'm hiring the original staff and making a new one, and I'm not going to let it turn out badly. Sort for the bad grammar.

Still playing this game in 2017 on my 14 old original Xbox :D
It was free on xbox one. I play it often.
good. alwayse remember this gem of a game!
Some of the best game music i've ever heard, absolutely brilliant

Reading some comments posted 9 years ago while listening this music, humbles me. How fast time flies. I wanna cry 😢😔
Same bro.
Still play it on the Xbox one when I got time to spare you know
I'm crying reading them...
That's my favorite music from Mercenaries. Especially when sky becomes gray and everything looks in sepia colors. I still have such memories 'bout it.
9 years ago now, how the heck did it go by? Just started playing the game again and still as good as I remembered it.
Same for me bro, exactly the same... ❤️ I'm playing it on Xbox One, after 12 years...

Mercenaries took such an immediate nose dive after this game... crazy how much more mature and bleak the first game was.

i want to hear those far away background shots and explosions.....when they werent there, this song played
This song melts me 🤤🥵
If I could get copies of this song for the orchestra, band, and choir it would make one hell of an opening in our Spring concert.
The first part of this track just provokes the thought of unimaginable suffering caused by war. Michael Giacchino is an excellent composer.
There's nothing quiet like destroying a chemical plant with a carpet bomb to make you feel like a man *inhale*.
that doesnt sound so quiet

Seriously I totally agree and that gun was insanely huge. This song always works well for the more epic missions :D
All that's missing is "General Song is our duly elected leader." and the sound of fighter jets every ten seconds.
Fending off hordes of North Koreans helping the South Koreans in northern province, defending VIPs I think it was.
