Sounds good! That Dingwall is awesome
I couldn't live without it anymore for sure!
Super insightful as always!
I went and listened to the album and holy hell the mixes sound awesome!
Thank u for your work
This was INSANELY descriptive and useful information. Do you guys do any metal mixing courses? Would love to look at what you have. Thanks!
Thank you! Not as of yet, May come in the future 😊
Great content!
Can we get a guitar mixing video please?
the tone is in the hair.
That explains why I never get a good tone...
hello! Those strings fit in a ""37 bass?
Now just get a Avalon u5 DI and that shit will be bussin
how do you drop your bass to f#? I have a five string with the lowest string beeing 135 but the moment I go lower than A, my strings are crazy loose
You will probably need a longer scale, or even thicker strings
What EQ settings ON the bass do you use though?? I think nolly says he just puts the bass and treb on 6 and leaves the mid on 5
Can only speak for Nolly here but I know he has the EQ bypassed usually. Source: SBL Course with Nolly.
I’ve tried it on mine and find the lack of low and treble boost just allows for it to distorted the mids slightly nicer
Can someone explain to me how you should set the controls on your Bass? I playing with a Musicman Bass with Active Pickups . This Bass has its own eq controls (Bass, Mid, High) so Whats better? Turn all the eq up, or don't use it?
In general, start with the dials at noon and go from there. The eq settings should be dialed in in the context of the tone, there is no one-stop setting. So my advice would be to first record the bass with the settings at noon, then if you want it brighter or darker you can tinker with the eq!
Why stereo track?
Im using Reaper and when I set up the Bass DI to the 3 parallel tracks i need to have the Di turned up a little bit so that the Distortion and sub tracks are audible. In the video he turns it all the way down. Is there something im missing or is that normal?
I am sending it as an FX send BEFORE the fader. Then it basically sends the signal as if it was at 0 db gain. But because I don't want the DI sound in the finished tone, I then put the fader to 0. But for this to work it's important to put the send pre-fader instead of the default after fader. I'm sure there is an option for this in reaper as well, if you want to try it :)
@@MOMetalProductions thank you!!
how do you like cubase 13 so far compared with 12?
I like it a lot! Better design in the UI, faster load times and higher resolution in 4k 😊
Might be just me but feel like its missing a lot of thickness...
If you think it's missing in the full mix - fair enough 😄
If it's missing in solo, for sure it sounds overly scooped when demonstrating the tone on it's own, it's pretty much needed to do that for a super dense and crowded mix like this one.
Thanks for checking out the video!
my take is that its mostly due to the fact that the strings were too low/not thick enough during the recording of the DI
13:11 - you forgot to mention that that rule is only applicable when looking at the spectrogram of Fabfilter with a tilt of 4.5 db/oct
Other than that, good job with this tutorial 🤘
Good point man!
This is how you do it when u overspend on bass but youre short on preamp with crossover.
