Sadly, a video like this only has 7,000 hits, while all these narcissistic views of how to manipulate people in relationships have millions.

Not all people are narcissistic they just want love and affection

Trying to "fix" the relationship is the tail wagging the dog. Partners have to sort out their issues before they can be in love in the way Dr. Firestone describes.

Everyone understands love differently: for someone it can be words of praise and encouragement, for another one can be helping him/her. So one partner can act on loving from his/her understanding of love and to be surprised that his/her partner still feels unloved. Garry Chapmen wrote a great book on this called 5 languages of love. I think this is a must book for everyone in the relationship. But also you can skip all of it, if both partners verbalize their needs and asking their partner directly what they want, as the psy said at the end of the video.

The only love that really heals is unconditional love which is “caring about someone else’s happiness without wanting anything in return”. I recommend Greg Baer’s books on this. The praise and stuff is ‘imitation love’ . The 5 languages of love can be good ways to communicate unconditional love.

If one is independent and happy enough, what then is the purpose of having a partner?

Also, one can't feel what another person is feeling. Not completely. We can see if they are sad, but sadness is different for everyone, though it does hurt for everyone. My happiness is not someone else's same happiness. They feel slightly different and what is visualized is something different. We only see our perception of how others seem, including our partners, though we know almost everything about them.

perhaps the purpose could be that it adds a whole new dimension to your life?
can also create a sense of balance if you and your partner have complementary
strengths and weaknesses. A good partner can be a reliable sounding board
      .
