  • The return of the brown bears is the most exciting and most controversial rewilding program in the history of Europe. This can be the ultimate success story, showing that we welcome brown bears back and we are ready to share the land with a predator, which we previously hunted to extinction in large parts of Europe. But is Europe ready to accept the burden it takes, to coexist with brown bears?

I've seen black bears and grizzly bears, from a safe distance, at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming when I went there in summer 2008.

I've been up close and personal with black, grizzly, and even a polar bear.
Ok, the polar bear was 200 feet straight down an ice cliff from me, and I was still going straight up as fast as I could. That polar bear looked skinny and very, very hungry, and I figured that I'd only be a snack for him. Oh, and he was pissed off too. Really pissed off.
I guessed I didn't want to find out if he just wanted to be friends. Know what I mean?

@@Felis-Concolor that's so far away from the truth, I don't know where to begin with.
Grizzlies on average are only slightly taller and longer than the Eurasian brown bears. Brown bears in Europe vary between 1,70m and 2,50m.
Grizzlies, depending on the population can be the size of a black bear (the ones in interior Canada) or the coastline populations going up to 2,7m.

I have encountered dozens of bears in the wild and not one of them was ever hostile. They are part of the web of life and vital for a healthy world.
