Can I keep just one in my 20 gallon tank because I don't want to upgrade
You could keep one in a 30 gallon or 36 bow tank
I already use sinking gel food for my other fish..could this be fed to a blood parrot as well??? THANK YOU
can u have 2 blood parrots in a 20gallon tank???????/
@@snoopysrc definitely not, I was hesitant to keep ONE in a 30 gal. It’s for the quality of life for the animal, so please don’t do that!
Cory, "They can't eat other fish."
Me * flashbacks to adorable red parrot fish chomping on rainbow shark*
Me, "OK. Sure..."
zeaundra gayle I think that was a dead shark the video never showed the shark live going in the mouth
Poor Fireball will never live that one down.
Lost a couple of other fish to my blood parrot.
I lost 32blind cave fish to my four blood parrot fish not impressed .
Seriously though!! You can do live feeds with them easily!! Also that have no problem with blood worms, they love them!! He is wrong about so many things it’s sad because people who don’t know better will believe him!
ethical concerns notwithstanding, i love blood parrots tbh. they are super personable, they have such great personalities and i think they're just adorable.
Had 3 together in a 125...the aggression is real. I had a male and two females and they formed a pair & did lay infertile eggs about 4 times. The third parrot had to stay on the far sides of the aquarium. The last female was 15+ years & very personable. She always knew where I was in the room and would be watching and following best she could. I was more sad for her then most after she passed. Like a little puppy.
"They cant eat other fish"
Fireball: observe.
And eats rainbow shark
Just got my first order from the co-op yesterday. Your customer service is second to none!! Thanks for everything you've done for the fish keeping hobby Corey and team!!
Thanks for giving the Derp some love. I keep 3 different types...Standard Blood Parrot, King Kong, and Red Ingot. They all do great in my new planted 115.
I was going to get a parrot next week and this video is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks Cory.
Cool! How is your parrot doing? I just got mine today
“They don’t really dig a lot”
To everyone watching, yes they do dig a lot. It’s a way for them to make their own territory. If you own a blood parrot, please give it sand.
When I had one it would move the rocks with its mouth and body
Alex Alex? You Yes, some do that, and that’s good that they can adapt like that, however, there is always a risk of them choking, as well, as some of them ram their head into the ground, since they may not use their mouth to pick up the gravel, which can result in damage
@Reclusiarch Grimaldus mine just mated with a male firemouth cichlid and dug a nest for
fry.
Will fine gravel do? I can’t buy large bags of sand anywhere where I live
@@-Radium- You don't have a Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply, or ANYTHING similar around you? 20/40 pool filter sand and coal slag (Black Diamond Blasting Sand) work fantastic when used as sand and it costs between $5 and $10 for a 50lb bag.
I really love these guides! Life happened, with family and all wonders it comes with, so now I starting to build up my knowledge of keeping fish again. Been away from this hobby for several years now, feels like I'm back on square one... More of these guides please!
I have two .. got them when juvies.. and they get along great... now about a year old and are awesome fish.. they do love to have caves to hide and sleep in. I am glad u gave the BPs some love ..
Since you asked for ideas on future topics, I would like to see a show on what types of rocks and what they do to the water parameters and also types of woods for freshwater tanks. I have come to hate Dragon Stone due to the flaking. Love your videos and all the tips you give!
Best fish I've ever had. So much personality.
Blood parrots are GREAT fish to keep!! Love this channel! 👍
My nephew just gave me a pair... Great information... Thank you so much 💝
Thank you for the blood parrot care guide vid. You read my mind.
I was able do well keeping one in a 60 breeder. He ate flakes and LOVED those Aqueon bottom feeder disks.
We just got a big aquarium in the front lobby where I work and there are 8 of these fish. The first week, whenever I went near the tank, they would all zip to the back of the tank and hide behind stuff….then peek out at me. Now, when they see me, they all come come right up to the glass….they seem like curious little puppies! So adorable. I’ve noticed they also all look slightly different, especially their eyes. Some have bigger irises, one has eyes that are all black. There are also a lot of black skirted tetras in the tank, and someone told me that the parrot fish would eventually start eating them. I hope not.
Awesome video! I cant get enough of my parrot; so much personality.. Although, mine goes crazy for frozen bloodworms lol cheers!
Your vids are fire they calm me down
Love the video !!!! I was just thinking of getting some for one of my tanks!!! I'm sold
Cool Topic and Cool Fish ! I have kept several in past.. They get to a good size and live a decent time.. Mine were all over 8 years.. In optimal conditions, I believe several years longer is very realistic.. They are comical fish with great personalities.. Happy New Year !!
Love how they hunt for shrimp! And it Live food! I’ve had many that sleep under rocks and will lay on its side and sleep or hide. Great personalities! Always live plants!
Very nice video, happy new Year!
Derp fish for sure. Your description of their eating habits was hilarious!
They're soooo cute.
i just got three little ones ,they are quite shy right now but they are so cute and quirky i love them
What do you feed them ?
@@tinadoyle3803 cichlid pellets .also frozen krill that i thaw under cold water and chop up to pieces that they can fit into their moths the krill is a really great supplemetary food loaded with lots of nutrients also helps with color
I love love love my parrots! They are so cute a really like attention.
Audio on this is super good
I would love to see a apistogramma guide
best intro ever :D this should be a meme! "ok, so lets talk about the blood parrot aka derp fish" lol. I nerded out on the white dwarf parrots, hope to keep them one day
They are so cute
I have three parrots in a corner 56 gallon. I pared them with 15 corydoras and an orange pleco. A really fun tank to watch.
Happy new year nice video
Hi Cory. Last video you mentioned only 1 in 10 products you test make it into your shelves. Myself along with other people would love to see you review these products into a video. I've seen many CZcamsrs- not necessarily fish CZcamsrs test products on there videos- which get a lot of views. Just a recommendation, otherwise keep doing what you're doing. Wish we had such a good store in CT
Same here, I'd love to see him on the east coast.
me too
Sounds interesting. Maybe a bi-quarterly review guide explaining some of the newer products that have come your direction, pro's, con's, etc. I'm sure this is asking much though. You have a ton on your plate with all the production and material you release as it is. But maybe one of your employee's could put that together for you...
I have juvenile Red Parrots, they have had no problem eating. They eat pellets, baby shrimp and blood worms without issue. I absolutely adore my babies they are funny to watch and have huge personalities.
great video
Cool Cory I'm glad you like blood parrots i do too
Thank you I was about to buy 2 blood parrots in a 55
Have u seen fireball he's on CZcams.
Omg that little guy is so adorable!
He is so cute I have a cuter blood red parrot check my channel and you can see it
Like the video and keep up the good work
Thanks for this info. I miss my parrot Jakell. I found if the pellet is the same size a betta pellet these guys will divower them.
Good informed n care n guide. Hope more video coming talking about king kong parrot fish everythings about fish parrot. Thanks.
Love them! Had them with some livebearers (Mollys and Platys) which it schooled with 🤣 It clashed with Electrick Blue Acara some times. But it was mostly to chase him away from its territory. Cool personality!
Blood parrots: the mules of the aquarium hobby 💕👍 (btw, I like mules)
What a coincidence, we were looking at these at a store this week.
Awesome 👏
Can you do a flowerhorn care guide next please
I honestly wouldn’t keep one in a 29 because my standard blood got up to 8 inches. 3 in a 55 seems like really a stretch considering how big they get even if you do a bare tank. These fish do not stay small
How often should the water filters be change? And should I buy new ones?
I got one from my local petstore and it had a mouth similar to a red devil!
hey cory ive got a couple of other mid size fish in my 100 gallon do you reckon i should put 2 or 3 in there or just even 1?
They are so cute!! I was at a pet store today and I saw one, and I was saying hello. It seemed like he wanted to be pet, but I was playing with him through the tank window!
Hey Cory where did you get that neon light from???
Hey cory Could you do a apistogramma cacatuoides care guide video id really appreciate it. Thanks love your videos.
All mine do is dig! They are constantly building up rocks. I had 3 in a 55 gallon with a algae eater. Now only 2. I think one female and other is male. When I had three they all got along but would always be 2 together then the third wheel off to the side. Lol..i love having them. They are real sweet when they come up to the glass. Mine will bang the tank lid when they want food. Lol...they will peck at your hand tho if you stick it in the water. When I have to move something in the tank I have to use a bowl lid to shield my hand. I have gotten pecked good a couple times. It just freaks me out. It's not a bite but it's odd. I have had mine for 4 years now. When I got them they were a totally different color. They are really neat fish. Everyone that comes over always goes to the tank and looks at them.
Very interesting fish 🐠it's not one for me but I will find some interesting things in the video 👍🏻
How do you feel about the parrot convicts there are some on aquabid I like them lot but trying to get some more information about them
I've not kept them. I sit on the fence with whether I like them or not, like I do with Glo Fish. I do like genetically altered (i.e. selectively bred) fish, such as long fin Plecos, etc., but that's about my limit. And, I actually think that True Parrots are a beautiful fish, so don't fully understand the deforming of them. Their color is nice, and that brings up another issue, injecting them with dyes. They look awesome Cory, especially with the Loaches. Happy New Year to you and yours!
" I do like genetically altered fish, such as long fin Plecos"
Genetically altered? Selective breeding for a natural mutation =/= genetically altered.
Thanks for the correction @@michaelmccarthy4077
Goo fish where modified as embryos not living fish
The issue with deformed fish like blood parrots is that these fish suffer a lot under their deformations. Blood parrots cannot eat, swimm, communicate, breath and reproduce like the original species of that fish. Glofish or fish with slightly longer fins don't suffer from their modifications.
Point well made @@kiri23234 I also see them bullied in lfs as they're kept with other cichlids, and have little defense.
Please consider doing severums next.
I am trying to do a community show tank! Would I be able to do only one blood parrot? Or do they have to be in groups?
I have two females. They are around 13 years old now. They like to make a mess of their substrate, digging holes and building hills with it. They do not get along with any other fish as they always try to eat them/bully them. There is only a large high-fin Pleco living with them now ... it's the only fish that seems to keep them in their place. They are neat fish, but you really have to watch them with other fish because sometimes they just really aren't that nice lol
these things are fun
Hey Cory, I was wonder what I could put in my 5 gallon, I know rule of thumb is one inch per gallon but I can support 10 gallons. Can i have a medium centerpiece (like a dwarf or honey gourami) and 5-7 tetras?
I wish I could call you. I have a 55g with a 6inch Raphael catfish, two 5in clown loaches, and 2 corydoras. I've fallen in love with the CUTEST blood parrot who's been at our LFS for months now. I wanna bring him home but I don't know if he'd be a good fit for my tank.
Hey! Is an fx4 too much flow for a 125 gallon for blood parrots?
I have 2 parrot fish in 125 gallon. They are close to 15 years old. I’ve never had a heater in the tank. I’m in souther California. Water is prob in the low 60s I’m guessing. I’m wondering if I should get a heater or just let them be?
Can you do a video on krib cichlids? Can you mix them with bigger cichlids?
Blood parrots grow quite big I have never heard that a 29 gallon is big enough for one I've always been told a 55 gallon is the smallest size for 1
Your right I have a 55 that houses 3 I thought I could get away with housing 4 but better not to risk overstocking the tank but I would say 3 parrots at max for a 55 they have plenty of room depending on shape of tank
They are cute fish... never kept them though.
Would a BPC be a good tank mate for a Razorback Musk Turtle if they are the only ones in the tank?
Could you keep 2 angle fish (not full grown) and a blood parrot in a 55 gallon? I have other fish in there but have other tanks they are going to anyway. Thank you.
How fast do they grow to full size if you get a small one(Like 3-4in) to start with?
I love blood parrot cichlid I started with 2 orange ones now I have 2 blood parrot cichlid and 2 polar blue parrot and 2 platinum parrots I'm looking for the yellow 1s and live in Pittsburgh Pa any suggestions on where I can get them.
Could u please tell me the food you feed yours. The name of it.
I wanna make sure my babys get the best
Hi newbie here, I currently have a community tank with brackish water 80 degrees. 3 platy and 2 guppy 38 gallons can I add one of these?
So about a month ago I had a blood parrot the size of a quarter in a 5 gallon, he got really big so I put him in a 30 gallon and got him a buddy, his buddy was really mean but then I got a 55 gallon, and got a peacock cichlid, jack dempsey, and a pike cichlid. One day (new years day) we found him dead at 7:00 AM. But now we have our old parrot (I could tell cause the mouth shape) and he went form a quarter to the size of my hand!
cory have you heard of the ziss easy co2 generator?
I have large blood parrots and they tore up all the plants and eventually uprooted some I had swords and jungle Val. Are there plants that work better?
I got one recently and when I get him home my wife says he looks like he's always 😃. Don't regret getting him. He's currently in my 48 bow front with a few swordtails, a coocoo catfish, and a common plecco for now. I definitely want to get him a friend.
Could I put one in with my single electric blue acara in a 40 breeder? 🤔
"they can't eat other fish"
fireball: allow me to introduce myself.
Hey Corey, I know this is an old video so it is okay if you never see this comment. However, if you do, I have a question. My sister in law got 3 blood parrots, only 1 has a tail fin. The others do not are they different species or are the other 2 deformed? They swim fine, just no tail fin.
Can you do a frontosa cichild care Guide
I was wondering what type of fish would work with these guys?
I just adopted a huge blood parrot. One of his eyes is blurry. What can I do for him? He's 8 years old.
So what do you breed them with to get babies?
Blood parrots do dig. I have 4 in my 125g and they constantly dig up my plants. I have to put rocks all rounds them. I may have to switch to fake plants to make it look nice with their great color.
try the Kribs in the orphan tank
Hi. Can you give me some recommendation of what fish(cichlids) can i put with my blood parrot fish.
Thank you very much!
I have a convict with mine, they get along well and they share a 45 gallon with a vanilla lobster which neither can harm and they have tons of room as well as a lot of personality and colour to the tank. Might get a blue lobster in a month and call it good.
Is it ok if I put 1 of them in a 40 gallon community tank wth gouramis, mollies, barbs, and other fish like that?
Have one in with my African cichlids. Mixes in well, feeds well, none of the Africans bother it and he's fine with the others too. Lovely fish
Deformed mouth, sure. But at least for mine, that didn't stop my parrots from devouring our neons, otos, amano shrimps, and snails. They've even managed 2" grasshoppers, no problem. They eat peas, kidney beans, lima beans easy peezy. They never seem to struggle with their food and outcompete everything else we have in our tank (pushing/shoving).
Hi Aquarium Co Op!!! Love your videos! Amazing work.
I have a very answered question that is causing me trouble. Can they live with angelfish? I have 3 fully grown and 3 juveniles. I really hope they will work out! Everyone tells mEe NOOO.
Tank is 100gallons
Thanks a million!
Are blood and red parrots the same or different fish? Pet supply plus here has what looks like blood parrots but they are listed as red parrot.
Could u do a clouded archer video ???
My blood parrot has been with me for 5 years. He was in my first 30 gallon tank in my apartment, now hes the centerpiece in my 125. He is starting to get lighter in color. Is there anything I can do for him?
Can you please do jack Dempsey or convect cichlids
What ph do you keep them at bc some people say 7 some say 8
There is a lone female sitting at my LFS. I am just itching to set up a tank and go for it. What other fish has anyone been successful with as tankmates?
