The most impressive part of this video is that Optics planet actually shipped something 😅😅😅😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I officially marked optics planet off my list ! They suck !!!
Those people at Optics Planet are definitely asleep behind the wheel, just horrible shipping times.
Oh great! I just ordered something from them for the first time the other day…
I've never had an issue with optics planet the only time an order went over a week was a griffin armament barrel
The best and complete review ever seen on a scope. Thanks!
Nice job man. I have been waiting for this one!
I've been subscribed to you for a long time and without fail your content is always awesome....Thanks
Thank you so much for this video. I was so surprised Vortex didn't have a picture of what looking through the scope actually looked like!
Nice review happy to see you're still around
Love to see u back on the long range. I have missed your content. I had this same issue with the Arken EP4. Just seemed like the ocular needed another half turn in.
Thanks for your video. Based on it I bought this scope today since it did what I needed it to at the price point.
Thank you. Very good review/test.
Wicked review. Very literate and functional review!
Thank you for the very indepth review!
Got me instantly looking at 34mm tubes. That's a great scope, I think I need one
Thanks for the review love you buddy
Love the review as the scope is on my "maybe' list.
First time watching your channel, very impressive, informative and unbiased content. I’ll definitely be back to learn more. Thanks Rex!
Good review brother!
I bet Vortex didnt expect this deep of a review.
For the record the mill quad reticle is one of my absolute favs especially for ranging and measuring, the midas has the best center reticle and regular ol mill dot, not to forget primary arms bdc on 5xprism..love it, couple sig rigs too for price are actually still holding up
I really think you do one of the best reviews on scopes.
Oh without doubt
He absolutely does. I’d be excited to see him review the Razor Gen 3 6x36 by Vortex. Probably gonna grab that one for my 338 LM rpr.
@@officerfoxtrot3633 i have 2 vortex not a big fan.
Thanks Rex just bought one .
BIG fan of vortex scopes. For the money the glass and reticle are fantastic.
"Comprehensive test" That's an understatement. I don't think I've ever seen a more in depth and honest assesment of a scope. Can only add from my personal experience....Vortex forever warranty is second to none.
that’s because you ll be needing it, test showed it’s a big turd
@@gunblasterr lol basically
Every vortex I'll ever seen fogs up especially up in the cold in Canada. Then you need to ship the frigger across the world. What a waste of time
Literally about to buy this guy. Perfectly timed review.
Might wat to look at Rex's review of the Arken SH4. Very nice glass.
@@mattmoore9166 It was between the two but I have points at Cabela's so Vortex is the winner.
HEADS UP: There is a price increase coming scheduled for March 16th, 2022 on Arken optics. If ya want one grab it quick and use code REX170 for $170 OFF any scope when you include the Combo pack. Here is the link: bit.ly/RexReviews
How much was the price increase?
The combo pack is no longer sold, right?
Great review rex! Every video I learn more from you. After seeing this I makes me so happy I got on the arken train!. I'm trying to sell my riton X5 so I can but a ep24 now! I love my sh4 but I'm dying to get a EP!! Thank you for all you do rex. I'm going to do some changes on my Patreon. Because I need some more rex videos!! So I will talk to you over there soon rex take care sir!
Is the ep that much better than the sh?
@@jimmyschock9395 idk. But I'm happy with my sh4 and if the glass is better I'm down to buy the Ep for sure
@Cz-Bundy yea i have an sh4 genII and am very happy with it for the price. I was blown away by how nice the mount they make is for the price.
Use code REX5 at Optics Planet for specials!
Great video as usual!
Hey Rex, great review. Also on my maybe list. May sound like a silly question. But would the MOA version be any different to the MRAD version. Also wanting to get into shooting, already a hunter and interested to see how this scope hunts. Thanks
I will verify the loss of elevation availability with the wind-age increase to the point I had to shim the mount of a M1A, which is a squirrelly deal to begin with. It was a pain in that application and was a great deal on my RPR until I desired a lit reticle on the app. Well that is why a wanted the tree and will just use that and adjust for various ammo. Good scope for the price and a value, just have a squared away host mount... Great review.
Rex God bless you
Thank you for the kind blessings.
I love my vortex venom. I’ve never trusted vortex because of the bad product reviews on the budget oriented optics but I had to give this one a chance. And compared to my arken sh4 gen 2, and my ep4. This vortex glass was distinctly more clear along with my Nikon black fx1000.
I still love my Venom, too. And, an update. I did buy some Arken scopes. The glass was comparable but everyone was talking about it like the neatest thing since sliced bread. Again, glass was pretty close and I still prefer the sight picture of the Venom, present company of Rex excluded. And on these scopes, I would not test to extreme. But the problem I have had on more than unit is that the set screws that hold the scales let go, all by themselves, sitting in the gun cabinet for a month undisturbed. They just work themselves loose. I do not know if it is a warranty issue. Seems more like a design problem. Vortex approach is the cap screw. Here is how many times a Vortex scale slipped by itself in use or in storage - zero times.
Arken does have the illumination that somehow runs down the battery and I just about never use it.
Maybe I am just lucky. In my Vortex collection I have the 3-9X40 Dead-Hold (SFP), two of the Diamondback Tactical 6-24X50, and three of the Venom 5-25X56. Not a single one of them has had a failure. I have had one fast lever fail and that is not a big deal. And, while hunting, I have found that I do not need to change mag all the time. I range the distance I am looking at, set elevation. The steady wind I can encounter is worth about 1/4 MOA windage, almost not worth dialing. Set elevation for distance, set mag on 10 - 12, stay warm and drink water.
Plenty of other places where the range is 71 yards. Keep the scope on zero, no windage, dial the mag back to maybe 6. Drink water, stay warm.
If I was getting into mile shots, I would go with a heavier rifle and probably look to get a 12-60X60 and zero at 200 yards. But I could still use this Venom if I put it on a canted rail.
@@ronws2007they don’t just work themselves loose sitting still because that’s impossible. Maybe you overtightened and it strained the screws enough to make them stretch. But things don’t just move without outside elements.
@@lukecurnutte2000 Actually, if you had bothered to look, you would find a few more videos on YT showing the same problem. True, screws don't just walk back out by themselves. My problem was after a range trip. The vibration of firing the weapon cause it to happen. And not just to me but others. So, here is how many times my Venom had the turrets slip. Zero.
I got a response from Arken tech support and the suggested Vibra Tite on the set screws. And that did seem to work, so far. Here is how many times I have had to put thread locker on my Venom. Zero.
Will Rex do an update about this? Who knows.
@@ronws2007there is the clarification. You set just sitting in the safe. Of course shooting vibration can cause then to back out. I have a sh4 gen 2 and I’m less than impressed. The company as a whole is also very shady. Paying people to shill their products. Like that asshat boomer cyclops.
@ronws2007 i had the exact same thing happen with my arken sh4, waa getting ready to go shooting when i noticed both caps were loose after sitting in my safe for like a month, im currently looking to replace it. I will say uf it wasnt for that design flaw with the set screws i love the scope for the price.
hello Rex .
would like to ask you if you have only 2 options
1 - strike eagle 5-25x56
2- Meopta optika6 5-30-56
what would you choose for long range shooting .
My Venom is coming in today!
Thank you for the great video and honest assessment.
So it's pretty rare for anyone to dial 5 mils of windage. The most windage I've ever had to use was 2 mils and that was on a moving target at 600-700 yards. In the midwest we typically don't get wind above 15 mph, but even still I find most shooters hold windage in the reticle for both wind and movers. For the price point, I'd say this scope has great value. I prefer the high end (Razor, Mark5HD, etc) but this one is a good starter long range scope.
Thank you 😊
BTW, looking sharp.
Thank you, Robert.
I would love to see you do this to the vortex viper pst gen2. 5-25 x50
I’d very much like to see to do a total review like this one on the new Hawke sidewinder. I purchased one last year and I believe it to be magnificent! Richard Utting included the Hawke in one of his reviews and had nothing but good things to say. I respect your opinions and testing techniques. Having reviewed the most expensive scopes out there it would be interesting to find out how the new Sidewinder stacks up against the best. Appreciate your time and effort helping us all to become more knowledgeable. God bless the Canadian truckers!
My experience with Hawke is substandard build quality, a guy can definitely do better, for some reason the Europeans are happy with them I am not.
@@alanmeyers3957 that’s because the English demand accuracy.
Just picked one up, waiting to pay off the rifle. So for now it's on a 22lr ranch, later to go on my red convertable rifle.
I own several of these and bought 2 of them for my son. Now I would like to see a review on the Burris 5X25 Veracity! Please!!!
I remember when you would not even consider touching a scope containing Chineseium. Surprised that you didn't start right out with comparing it with other similar scopes (like the Athlon or Arken).
Ooooh do a cold weather rifle video please.
You could touch on the Canadian Rangers
I was wonder what height rings you are using and what base you are using I just boing the same scope with the medium rings 1.10 but I have a weaver base I just ordered a mdt because I didn’t know what else to by
So if you need more than 5 mils of windage then it’s best to use the reticle to get the remainder of the windage needed?
G'day mate there is a 9 & 10 on the vertical, the nine is where there the black line starts & the the 10 is the vertical line.
Are the expensive German scope brands the only ones that will adjust properly with lots of windage dialed in?
That's why I never crank windage on the windage turret . I hold off for windage on the reticle . If the solution calls for more windage than is on the mill dots then it's too windy for me .
A great review. I have 3 Venoms but I have not tested them that far. As for how much windage you can dial, I would imagine that is a bigger concern in PRS.
The intended use will have some effect. The author of my favorite book on long range shooting was a sniper team leader in the 1st Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment for a few tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He almost never dialed the windage turret. He would dial elevation for distance based on DOPE if had been to the location or one similar before. As for windage, he was shooting less than 500 yards with a .300 Win Mag and only had to hold left or right edge of target based on wind direction and he would get to near of center of mass, which was the objective. And when he first started in training, they made him use iron sights so that he could concentrate on basics. Later, when approaching 800 yards in training, they would bring in optics.
Funny thing is, I put these Venoms on, which are probably overkill for hunting deer around 100 yards. So, now, on my favorite hunting rifle, I put an Arken SH4 Gen 2 4-16X50mm because it has illumination and zero stop, features I wanted but the Vortex models don't quite match that at the price point of Arken.
But I still like Vortex. The Diamondback Tactical is good if you can live with the turret marks not quite lining up with the alignment mark on the body. The Crossfire II 3-9X40mm I have is good for hunting if you are looking for 1 MOA, ish and are not shooting much past 300 yards. Or just zero it for PBR at about 25 yards or so.
Hi Rex,
Would you please do another video best scopes for long range shooting just like sniper 101 but 2022 version?
Please!!!
I have a question, I zeroed my vortex Venom install revstop with 147grn bullets but now i wanna zero it to 130. Can i remove the rev stop, zero it again and install rev stop again?
Where is this scope made ?? I am afraid to get a counterfeit one when i buy it
Been loyal to Vortex for YEARS!! Love a Vortex scope, but then i tried a Bushnell. I can love both!!
And i want this one BAAAAAADDDD
You are either watching a different video or Vortex bot, this scope fucking blows🤣 nothing is tracking right, the zero stop is a used rubber, the reticle is horrible and the windage is not even tracking
You should toss your vortex in the garbage
From my understanding Ffp just means you can use your reticle at any magnification where as sfp you have to be a max magnification to get use out of your reticle.
Still love my swfa, athlon midas, arken,...nikon, some Leopold..just never got on the vortex wagon
That’s because the wheel fell off! oh good thing it has that warranty lol
How does this compare to the arken?
Are you sure they are 1.6 inch rings? I can only find 0.92, 1.26 and 1.45 inch rings on their homepage.
The amount of Canadian at 1:31 is off the charts
I just got mine today a couple of complaints on here i hope happy with mime
Rex what's the difference between this and Arken?
I was very close to purchase one of these and am happy to have chosen an Arken instead
and knowing much more about scopes now, I would touch a Vortex with a broomstick!
Why would you touch it with a broomstick? Thats weird.
Looks like I got interrupted and have overlooked to type in the word NOT
and yes, it looks to me that the Arken
scopes are not only better made and
have bee tested better than the Vortex,
they also are a lot less expensive too.
Take care and try to stay out of trouble!
@@johnlong7504 Take care 🙂
10-4, U 2!
Thank you for your review. Question: What sources would you recommend for a newbie to learn how to use the turrets on a scope. A step by step instruction so that I can absorb fundamental basics and then move confidently to the next steps. Thanks
Right here! Rex has videos that go back a ways. Couldn’t name a specific upload.
Sniper 101 will teach you to sell your vortex 😒
What happened to the Vortex of 2012 I remember? Now, they pump out junk. BIG sad.
How does it compare to the viper pst gen1??? Wondering if it compares favorably as the old pst is a little long of tooth
Scope tech has evolved significantly. The gen 1 PST is a dinosaur. Fully capable dinosaur, but today's optics are superior in every way given the same price point.
Nice haircut Rex
So the scope isn't the best option in this price range, but your review is great! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!!
scope is an embarrassment
Roller derby chicks on ur table scope testing, now I'd pay to see that lol or that period of rexes life, the derby coach rex hahaha
Can you please tell me which stock you have on that rifle? That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!
Accuracy International Chassis System
Which is best Vortex VENOM or VORTEX DIAMONDBACK TACTICAL?
I wonder if this will hold on 338LM?
How is the Demon Vortex scope?
Do you set your truth stick distance from the turret or objective?
From the reticle which is typically near the control group.
Sir, is it better than Arken EP5?
The Arken, although a bit less cash is a few steps up in my humble opinion.
Are you starting at the vary top of the optic adjustment
I test tracking across the entire adjustment range, top to bottom.
Would you mind doing a similar review of the bigger brother, the Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25X56, please?
In my opinion whole different ball game. The class is slightly better, but you get illumination and locking turrets. I think it pushes into pst category just because the current pst is a little outdated. You pay 3-400 more msrp over the strike eagle for a small bump in glass, smaller tube and objective, and a non-locking turret system
If I can round one up, that easy enough.
great scope for the money. i have it on a .22 because of the adjustment within the strike eagle
Where’s the comprehensive review of the arken Ep5 u promised? I have one haven’t got to use it yet so I’m neutral for now but I would love to see u compare it to maybe a Midas tac or ares btr as I’ve looked at the other two n never got to look through em I jus bought the arken on a leap of faith while also knowing that if I’m dissatisfied I can get my money back out of it especially right now but I’m waitin to give it a full running at the range tomorrow can’t wait!!!
In progress.
Looks like a pretty nice scope but I have had a lot of issues with vortex stuff grate warranty policy but I think I will stick with U.S. Optics
lmao it’s why they brag about their warranty, you ll be needing it
in my vortex venom, when i move the turret up, i see the reticle moves down, is this normal?
Yes. Youre "moving" the impact, by inversely adjusting the reticle.
Hey just a request would love to see a review on the Sig Tango MSR 1-10 34mm LPVO. They are going for 499-525 as of 2/17 .Don’t know any other company in The optic’s world that I know of that has anything close to it in that price range.
Sig and Vortex are the same crap coming out of the same over sea crap factories
Ordered from OP. 10 mm bullets. Placed in back order 4-6 weeks. Eight months later received email, bullets in stock and did I still want the order. Replied yes I did. A day later rec. email stating my order was canceled but the bullets were still in stock and I could reorder for the new price, approx 2.5 times the original price. OP. Never again.
WHIRLWIND!!!!
lol
Yep, that's the inherent feature that shouts "JUNK ".
👍👍
Man you need to compare it to the arken
Rgr. I can setup a comparison.
Im here for confirmation
I have been reviewing the diamondback vortex and the venom, both vortex failed because the reticle does not rise vertically completely, the turret has slack and the eye release also. That's why I moved to Arken and I didn't see any mechanical failure.
How do you like it in comparison to the strike eagle 5-25?
I think it's basically the same thing sans illumination.
Both suck equally
The turrets sound nice and tactile.
No they don’t, you must be used to cheap scopes, also that zero stop is trash, try seeing those numbers in the dark and the windage is canted ahaha
@@n8o8n Did you not watch the same video as anyone else😃? Watch the part where the horizontal turrets was not even tracking horizontally? 🤡

Don't most people hold over for windage and only dial for elevation anyway? Like, any normal shooter/newbie? In theory, your average shooter wouldn't have problems tracking is what I'm asking.
Also i do have vortex for all those guys that think iam bias
I know this has nothing to do with this video, but did you see the new Kentucky ballistics video? I watched a video you did about how you thought the slap round combination with the muzzlebrake was to blame for the catastrophic failure of the Serbu. He did the test again, but had a different muzzlebrake on the Rifle… I was wondering if you had seen it and shared with the SOP with him that you talked about before. Thanks! He seems to be blaming this on an overcharges round.
