I wish they would take more time and prioritize quality over revenue, with the exeption of andor, rogue one, solo and much of the animated stuff recently I feel let down by disney's ability to tell a good story.
So is it a John film, Dave film then the Rey film? I'm confused. I'm not sure there needs to be a season 4 of Mando if they're also giving him a film.
The fact that they had Season 4 all written and plotted out and now are so uncertain gives me concern. I'm sure this sort of thing happens all of the time in the business so hopefully it will all come together and not be a disjointed mess.
why don't Feloni and Favreau just come out like James Gunn did with DC and just give us a rundown of what they are planning over the next decade? make their own video talking to the fans.. not hearsay from these shady underground sites
I prefer episodic "TV" series over movies simply because there's more time and content to explore little extra "side quest" things and add to the lore with shots that would be cut and trimmed out of a movie because of time.
I really think it is a great move to have Mando season 4 be six episodes released on Disney plus and then put later a movie showing din and Grogu after in a movie. I think they would bring in more subscriptions for Disney plus and box office revenue. Also I think it's a good way to bring in all the other Disney Star wars shows characters and get them ready for the final cumination.
Well with a movie u would get more content since it will most likely be 2 hours instead of 2 40 minute episodes since we still get the first 6 episodes
I love the idea of the seasons having little episodes that lead up to the films that cover the more climactic, epic events that would be executed to its greatest capacity in the cinema. That sounds like an awesome compromise to me for Mando. Also, we know that the budget for Disney+ series will now be reduced so a film might be a way where the shows won't show any quality damage as well and tarnish its reputation. A Mando & Grogu film could not of came at a better time in my opinion, I am really intrigued to see how this plays out for other SW series if all goes well!
Hi Meg, awesome news update, I hope that Mando season 4 is split with the start being on Disney + and the finish is a movie it would be the perfect finish, and I hope that all the other series continue after the movie, it would be nice to have a 2nd series of Boba Fett thank you SWM
I kinda like the idea of 6 episodes followed by a movie to finish it off. Gets Disney plus viewers into theater seats like you were saying and allows for less filler. It also encourages more people to watch the show so they’ll understand the movie. I think it’s a cool concept personally. I also would bee fine with a mix of movies and TV like Marvel buy better. It’d make the most sense I feel like. You still get the money maker that’s the show, but you also get the big screen appearances for the casual fan. I can’t see then tossing the show entirely.

The fact the the third season was slightly disappointing maybe?
Not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did more than a few people who complained about the Doctor Penn Pershing and Elia Kane arc being episodic, but it did turn out too episodic. That arc should've been sprinkled throughout the season to make the story flow better.
I see the problems, and I'm not denying they're there, but others are overtly critical about it. The difference is we don't let it bother us.
@@dantopash8267I didn’t hate season 3 but it didn’t live up to the first 2 seasons. They lost the focus on the main characters and developing their story and relationship, which is what made the first 2 seasons so good. They need to get back to telling their story.

They need a big screen presence, Mando is their biggest new property so they are pivoting him from TV to movies looks like. I’d prefer long form small screen Mando personally but the film could be fun
I've always felt it odd that they have the scripts ready, then there's the actors and writers strikes, they should have spent the gap doing pre-production (the volume is very pre-production centric) and now they're desperate to get shows in production to keep the streaming wheel turning. And everything says that Mando 4 is heading into production very very soon. The idea of waiting for a rewrite for a movie seems weird. So I think either it's the finale for Season 4, or more intriguing it could be a kind of stand alone that will help set up what happens next.

6 episode mando streaming featuring bo katan and what the mando world dealing w/thrawn and night sisters. the movie is just about dinn and grogu as bounty hunters and discovering the extent of the empire remnant and conveying that info to a non-believing new republic council, but gaining the support of certain folk in the military (ghost crew). it ends with the great reveal of thrawn's appearance as he starts to put his grand plan into motion.
Luke: I could take him away from it and give him some training. He is brilliant. He’s catching on to many things, but I see a disconnect that he doesn’t see all of the facets.
It is understandable. They need something big after COVID and the Strikes; plus it has been a while since we saw any SW film in general. It is wise to determine what is the story they need to tell and how it will be best viewed - tv or film. As for flaws, no one is perfect. I myself struggle when writing who the audience will be or things like that. Best to sort it out and let the story tell itself the way its wants.

I gave Mando season three a second watch, and I liked it a lot more than the first time I watched it.
Wouldn't the visual effects techniques be different between the series and movie? I've heard that the immersive projection technology used in the show, as phenomenal as it is, doesn't work as well for theatrical movies (at least that's what I heard a CG artist say). If that's the case, maintaining a consistent visual style may be a special challenge. I imagine they'd work it out, though. I like the idea of both a fourth season and a movie.
Season 4 is written and the movie is separate
They MUST MUST MUST make the Mando movie into a movie event or else they can't get those butts in the theatres. So, if they can set up the season to culminate into an event which would be a theatrical release than yes, that will work. Personally, I think the retaking of Mandalore is epic enough that it deserves its own movie --- but there are thousands of other stories that would be epic enough that would deserve a film.

I hope the movie is like an avengers movie. Can you imagine Ashoka, Mando, Grogu, the other Mandolorians, Boba Fett, fennec Shan, Ezra and Luke Skywalker. All taking on Thrawn and his zombie troopers.
The Mandalorian movie can be really great if they do it as a standalone adventure. They are setting themselves up to fail if you have to watch something on TV and conclude watching it in the movie theater.
They need both to keep Disney alive and kicking
I completely disagree with all the flaming assholes who say they should end Mandalorian with a movie or last season. There is no reason we cant get 2-3 more seasons on top of a movie. A season is only 8 episodes in varying length where most regular tv shows have 2-3 times the amount of episodes per season and can run 5-10 or more seasons. And not every episode has to be a academy award winning banger. Some can be great others not. People have too much over expectation in life these days and are too quick to falsely label something lame.

I think Disney knows what is going to do but scoopers hear bits of information and release immediately. I think the plan is to release season 4 and make a movie of the finale. I think that make the most sense.
It can be good to use Ashoka Season 2 to build up part of the story for the Mandalorian & Grogu Movie.
Then the movie leads into Season 4 with follow ups and scenes that not got into the film.

Making a movie is a massive undertaking. I cannot see how you can make a movie and a tv show at the same time.
I think Favreau can do it since season 4 is already written, and Filoni can work with guest directors like they been doing on the tv show since they already they have a written script guideline to go by.
Hopefully both Season 4 and a Movie. Too much Mandalorian is never enough.

Theaters are different in the UK. They are where we go to watch plays and live shows set on a stage.

Disney plus is hemorrhaging money, they just cannot compete with Netflix. It makes sense to restructure season 4 of Mando to a movie, have a leaner script that does away with all of the stuff. Personally I am fond of a 6 part series and a finale on the big screen. There are a lot of casual Star Wars fans that have not seen the Disney plus shows who will not be aware of the series, it would just confuse them. Having a movie about Mando and Grogu on the big screen with an opening crawl would act like a new canvass for those fans (I would include my brothers in this bracket). It´s like a new introduction to those characters to a vast audience outside the Disney plus realm, who are aware of the Mando/baby Yoda phenomenon through pop culture but have necessarily seen it on the small screen. It´s like the introduction of Star Wars to new generation.
I don't think it's a problem that Star Wars isn't officially revealing that much. That's generally the norm with movie projects - it's way they use false titles and write fake scripts and film multiple endings, etc. to prevent leaks. The random (and often very wrong) speculation obviously provides the movie with free marketing.
Serious question: do people still get excited about going to the movies? I mean, I’ll still go see any Star Wars movie but, in an era where home theaters are catching up in quality to cinemas, what’s the appeal of watching any movie in a place less comfortable than one’s home? Maybe DoorDash and Disney+ should be the PG version of Netflix and chill.

The thought of season 4 being 6 episodes with the finale being a big screen movie really makes me angry with them. Fist, you will have to be subscribed to D+ to understand what is going on in the movie and then you will have to spend extra money to go to the theater to see the finale. What a complete rip off that would be.
If Disney wants to appeal to the casual Star Wars fan, then make the movie a stand alone project not tied to a season. Or, make the first 6 episodes for regular tv (not a subscription service) to build hype for the movie. Also, if there is a big screen movie it better have an appropriate budget for filming locations and FX and not just be filmed in the volume like the TV show. If they are going to charge extra for it they need to make it worth the money to see in the theaters.

I would like to see Favreau movie, but I don’t have high expectations of it. In my opinion, his movie should end the Mandalorian storyline, it is a mistake to keep seasons going on and on, at some point people start to get bored, there are opinions about S3 that was lame, I heard for example that instead of Mandalorian, could be named B Katan. I can imagine that if Filoni’s movie comes next, that also could be the finale for the Mandalorian, maybe he dies and Grogu continue his path alone or with Ahsoka. And I said “if”, because I think maybe Favreau’s movie will replace Filoni’s, now that he has his new role at Disney, he could not have the time for writing. Just my thoughts.

A conclusion from what it sounds like!
I'm not a huge fan of doing most of it for TV and then ending it on the big screen, its seems obviously cash-grab, and they're relying on the series being so good that enough people want to pay cinema prices to see it through. Given the 3rd season cliff-dive, that's misplaced confidence. The Marvels copped it for being a movie about characters you only know from TV shows- granted that wasn't its only problem, but now they wanna make another thing where people need to watch 3 seasons of tv to prep. Actually more because Boba + Ahsoka happen around the same period.
It can be pulled off though, with a huuuuge plot and epic storytelling. When ep 4 came out in 1977, none of us knew anything about Vader, the empire, kenobi etc. The story was so good and so focused we didn't need it. I mean pulling Mando, BoBF and Ahsoka into one movie is pretty epic, but then you gotta tie up Ahsoka series enough to conclude it or... end season 2 in a way that's both conclusive and allows for the movie to act as a season 3. It's ambitious, but at this point they need that level of ambition in order to revive the fandom.
I'm quietly hopeful, mostly because I'm in a new place with star wars in that despite the mess they make of it, I refuse to give up on it. I'll always enjoy star wars. ✨️🥺✨️

I wouldn't be shocked if they're done with mandolorian on Disney plus. For Disney plus is very unprofitable, so in theory they'll make more money off a movie (in theory until they dump 300 million budget)
I want it to be a good movie but as long as KK and Dave have any power over it then it is going to suck Ahsoka and Sabine are not going back to the normal universe Ahsoka is staying in the other galaxy she said so in the series she told Sabine we are here it's time to let the rest go and we have seen what Dave can do and it is not good Ahsoka was awful and if the movie is going to be like that he should ask someone else to do it Dave should stick to cartoons if he would have done rebels season 5 instead it would have been better

Disney has always favored Favreau, going back to the whole line of Avenger films. Dave Filoni is the heart and soul of Star Wars. He is the only one that strives to carry on the Lucas legacy. Without Filoni, Star Wars would have died after Episode 7.

I'm not sure if its structural. My concern is whether they have a good story to tell, where the scripts are at and which format will best suit the story line.

It sounds like the total cluster that is normally associated with LF and I can't see the Mousehouse not doing both with their Cashcow to milk the punter.
Going on previous performance I can see something going A over T due to Kommandant Krell's interference especially if LF tries to emulate the MCU which IMO is a basketcase and has been for years.
