A $100m road project could be a strategic, economic and security lifeline for Afghanistan if it doesn' t fall into the hands of the Taliban or warlords.
" This project is the 21st century engineering project ," a soldier told reporter Paul McGeough, "walk a few metres off the road and you re back in biblical times ." Funded by the US, the road will shorten the route used to bring supplies in for the 100,000 international forces here. Yet the risk of attack is high and soldiers constantly scan the ridgelines. " I know you can 't physically stop the enemy from coming in to this area, " Colonel Campbell tells an elder, but what I want to do is create a place where the enemy is not welcome ." Yet the elder is more interested in getting the Colonel to build a hydro-electric plant for his village. It would seem the villagers are biding their time to see who will be victor in this long running war.

MANY more than 2400 americans died in Afghanistan. Bush administration changed the statistics after 9/11. Only deaths that happen immediately on the battlefield gets counted. Mines which account to 80% of fatalities are not, neither suicide bombs, insider attacks, friendly fire, etc etc doesn't. For example if you get shot and die on your way to the hospital, you're not counted in the statistic. Don't forget the US wasted 6-7 trillion dollars in Afghanistan and Iraq alone. Also 22 american veterans commit suicide DAILY, look it up. That's 8000 a year right there, multiply that by 18 years of war=144.000, and counting.
IMPORTANT INFO: Contractors and paramilitary are not counted in the statistics either, they account for majority of soldiers.
Not to mention they don't count mercenary deaths, which is deceptive as majority of troops are mercenary blackwater fighters. I couldn't make this up. This is how filthy and deceptive this "war" is.
please dont spread this misinformation about only 2400 soldiers died. Mamy more died. If they lost 65000 in 10 years in Vietnam. They have lost at least 3 times more in 20 years of Afghanistan. They lie to keep the public from protesting and opposing and rioting because of the war
