IMO School lunches should be handled at provincial level, by non profit organisations. Feeding 10 million children one meal a day (on the 200 school days) should only cost about 6 billion. That’s working on R30 per meal, which would definitely ensure good nutritional standards. Someone is making a lot of profit out of hungry kids!

Every school needs its own feeding budget. The new DA minister must focus on basic education as is her mandate. The government needs to urgently get that sector right - buildings, computers, books, kitchens toilets, security. Children are the future they must come first. Those women cooking the food need to have clean uniforms and hair covers and those kitchens need to be spotless.
It might be a good idea to have a district level tender system, that way the district is accountable to the province and the province to the national, it also isolates the fall-out to single districts that are probably going to be easier to audit than a massive tender, corruption hurts the most vulnerable, people want to steal money from poor children who desperately rely on the support, really scummy behaviour
