How do you get to 2022 and not hear Detroit Rock City? Sweet Jesus I'm old.
Paul Stanley said that 'Detroit rock city' was one the best songs he had ever written, released in 1976... it was overshadowed by the ballad 'Beth' that became a huge single that year. Stanley said the lyrics were a tribute to a Kiss fan in North Carolina, who was killed in a car accident on the way to a Kiss concert. Kiss wanted to immortalize Detroit in gratitude for embracing this band from New York City w/ 4 guys in makeup & costumes... Everybody thought Kiss were clowns, but they blew away audiences on tour and they were playing arenas in Detroit around 1975 and the Midwest, before they even had a hit record.
Kiss is the main reason many of us started listening to hard rock and metal. The influence they had is undeniable.
You got to listen to the full version of this song off of their Destroyer album! It gives you the full effect of the true story about a fan dying on the way to their concert.
Riding home from school this evening and kiss shout it out loud comes on the radio and my 6y grandson shouting it out loud all the way home, one proud papa 💙 ❤
Kiss wrote this song like a tribute to a Kiss fan who get killed in a road accident ,going to a Kiss concert.
One of the best bass lines in rock and roll history IMHO.
you should watch the 1999 movie "Detroit Rock City" where kids playing in a rock band are KISS fans and the movie shows their frustrations and adventures on their journey to make it to the concert. The movie is set around 1977 which makes it even more enjoyable to watch. and this song features in the movie, pretty sure KISS themselves are also in it from memory at the end. watching the movie might give you an idea of the hype and excitement around this band at the time.
As a 40yr old black man I really got into classic rock. I want to recommend Black Sabbath - hand of doom. It’s so funky and rock at the same time. Plus most music before your time has a message. Stumbled on your Michael Jackson reaction. Keep ‘em comin 👍🏾.
You can't go wrong with KISS. They have decades of hits from the 70's, to the 2000's. I've seen them many times live, and they put on the greatest spectacle of a performance/stage show I've ever seen!
Now you need to consider watching the movie Detroit Rock City for your movie reaction channel. The movie was made in 1999 when Kiss was on their reunion tour and started performing in make-up again. The movie takes place in the 70s and concerns four teenagers trying to get into the Kiss concert!!
I was around 11 years old at a record store, just browsing through the record albums in the bins... and the cover of KISS ALIVE 2 caught my eye!!! Had to buy the album, took it home and cranked it up on our family stereo record player in the living room and from that moment on listening to their awesome music and looking at the pictures in the album (That inner sleeve live concert photo of KISS- fire shooting upwards-KISS dudes up high in the air on those risers OMGaaawwwd!), I became a KISS ARMY SOLDIER FOR LIFE!!!
Beth, Black Diamond, Hard Luck Woman, Strutter, Tears Are Fallin are all great tracks. Peter Criss (drummer) sings lead on the first three songs listed above.
Great reaction guys. Amber, you would love "BETH" written by Peter Chris, lead singer on the song too. It was the "B" side of this 45 record Detroit Rock City, and became their biggest hit reaching #7 on the Billboard chart in 1976, and won the Peoples Choice Award for "Favorite Song" in 1977. It also ranked #3 in VH1's 25 Greatest Power Ballads of all time. Check it out next!
KISS is my favorite band since i was 7 years old and i'm 49 now, they have so many songs you have to react to. 70's songs like Black Diamond, Cold Gin, 100 000 Years, Strutter, Parasite, Let Me Go Rock 'N' Roll, C'mon And Love Me, Rock Bottom, God Of Thunder, Shout It Out Loud, Love Gun, I Stole Your Love, Shock Me (Ace Frehley singing with a killer guitar solo), Hard Luck Woman, Sure Know Something.
KISS is a great band. Consider one of their lesser known songs. Sure Know Something is a great song. Didn't get the air time it deserved.
The original album track has an 'opening' and an 'ending ' ( literally ) that this version edited out . Perhaps they did it to save space or perhaps due to the 'graphic' nature of the end to the story of this track .
I’m from the Detroit area and this song as well as Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” (“just a city boy born and raised in south Detroit”) are staple core songs that we cling to in our town. Represent 313!!!!
There is a great live performance of Kiss without their makeup called “I Still Love You” where Paul Stanley kind of shows everyone just how amazing of a singer he really is. Absolutely mind blowing performance.
One of best guitar solo EVER!
