A day in the life of a musician in greece(where i live) is wake up early in the morning searching for food.. hahahaha
zambination11 Μαγκα μου
Greek musicians get up before noon? They don't in L.A. :)
ahahahaaaa!!!
σωστός..
Greek working musician here, living in Chania, the way I see it is, that no matter where you are, you have play wedding gigs to earn a living :P
As a teenage New Yorker chasing that dream of being a musician, this helped. Thanks a bunch!
Well, you already got the "Living in New York" part down which is more than I have. But yeah, I would love to be a full time musician there
If you ever move down here, don't get caught up in the tourist hype. Most likely you won't be living in Manhattan. Consider the Bronx or Brooklyn for an apartment.
Did you make it?
Awesome!
This comment is underrated, Dr Levin.
la wea bacan
yoga class don't seem too bad
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Looks fine.... *ahem*
@@warpatato yea some nice bASS (although it was guitar)
My thoughts exactly! LMAO
Hahah
"Don't practice for over 3 hours" *rehearses for 6 hours*
Rehearsal and practice are a bit different
@@lostboycmd now he got a 5 hour major scale practice routine
time flies like butterflies during rehearsals, but 2 minutes of practice is an eternity
@@MM-vs2et Oh shit. I felt this in my shins.
Where did he say this? Do you remember the Video?
This is a lovely demonstration of why a working musician really has to have a portfolio of working briefs to draw upon during any given week - bass, guitar, keyboard, arrangement, production, business development - it never ends, and can be really stimulating and exciting! I do like the idea that we have to be on the constant lookout for areas to improve ourselves - knowledge sharing, skill development and being more creative with our available time.
I hope that at least one of the many people who request that musicians give of their time and material for free "because it will be free advertising for you!" - sees this and realises just how much effort each performer has to invest in themselves in order to stay in demand, let alone create a demand for their unique selling point.
you are awesome at bass.
thanks! if it isn't painfully obvious, that's my main instrument.
But you suck at guitar hahaha.
hahahahaha. ha. hahaha. haha.
@@Alvinsch2 WTF Are you doing here Alvinsch. Can you even speak english
alot of fingers in alot of pies! I really think being a multi instrumentalist helps alot.
Being a multiinstrumentalist is not only helpful, it's the best way to be a musician, making a living off it or not!
If I had the money (and talent :s), I'd play like 7 different instruments and learn to sing on top of that :)
Mezurashii5 Yes. exactly!
Paul Davies being a multi instrumentalist is actually very common nowadays - so common that it has lost a little of its meaning. Most musicians can play some guitar and keys.
It's not so much of a help as it is a necessity.
I'd love to see a video on all the things you carry around with you throughout the week. Things you keep in your gig bag, things on your cart, in the suitcase, to practices/gigs, etc
like a gear video? Yeah I'd love to see that.
I understand why some people in the coments are being so negative.
I don't agree, but I understand.
Most of them, don't share the joy of playing gigs, or rehearsing.
If music is your true passion, you get addicted to the great feeling of performing with your band mates.
The dynamic of playing with good friends and making people happy in the process is impossible to explain.
I call that feeling the "performance high"
And I live for that feeling
The Musician HUSTLE! It's not always glamorous (Tonight the Opera House - Tomorrow the local Pub) but I see it as FREEDOM!!
Thanks for sharing mate!!
I love playing music but I would hate to make it my job. Others are saying this looks great and fun and whatnot. To me it looks awful. I'd rather keep music a hobby, but I'm glad for those who can enjoy making a living with it.
this actually looks so funnn to me I’d love to do this
@@avFightForRoses Same. Here's to our future, gigging-musician selves!
Well, have a nice day, and follow your dreams.
Yep, I tried it, not full time though. I taught private students, on Saturdays for a music school and a few wedding gigs. All this on top of being a full time student at university. I completely burnt out.
Strictly a passion for me and I don’t even feel like gigging.
the dilemma is that you spent so much time practicing and learning you have no other skills to make a decent income lol.
I'm the same with cooking. Love doing it for friends and myself, but would hate to be doing it everyday and stuff I might not want to eat.
Where are all the drugs?...
@@chubetube Yeah, after eating that weed brownie, I doubt he'll do any more of that...
(maybe he just didn't record it, except for that one brownie time)
Let's get real... most musicians can't afford drugs
@@jackfetkovich7226 ...Nice.
hence why he had so many gigs lol...the busy guys aren't busy bc they do drugs, the busy guys are busy because THEY DONT and are talented...sadly lots of talent find comfort in drugs to navigate the nasty world of egos and music...pressure and rejection.
Right now I’m in a taxi, heading toward my studio, in the outskirts of Moscow. And definitely it’s a fascinating experience to watch your video about daily routine of a musician from the other side of the planet. Especially that we all have to do the same tasks over and over again. World is a big village, isn’t it?
I love seeing this. It gives me a total different perspective of what a 'music' life is. In my country is way different.
where do you live?
yung inhalt Hey! Uruguay :)
The fact that you can actually make videos during a schedule like that is beyond me.
I'm a long time fan re-watching this in 2019. It's so cool to see how much this channel has grown in the last couple of years!
I love these kinds of videos, they are so interesting! I really like seeing how a proffessional works and what his everyday tasks are.
Wow... this really puts into perspective how busy life can be at times for a musician, and honestly really opened up my eyes to how much more I can be doing instead of wasting my time like I usually do. Thank you, and great video (as always)
This guy is so talented, endlessly amazed at all he does and how well he does it
Thanks for sharing! What a vastly different life you lead. It let's me appreciate being behind the scenes.
you are the best man. Watching you from Turkey for a couple of months and you have a very loaded channel thanks
Yes! I ve been waiting for such a video for a long time! You should do it from time to time, like one for the half a year
pls do more~!!!, love it. it will be a good insight and interesting view for people trying to get into the music industry, not just knowing the glory of being a musician but the amount of work needed as well.
Honestly your live seems really fun this is extremely inspiring. Thanks!!! Keep up the good content
congrats on staying so busy - it looks exhausting ... you are an inspiring example of the idea that when talent is cultivated with hard work, good things can surely happen - best to you!
Man. This is the most inspiring video I've watched in a while. Thanks for sharing!
it's so hard. living in 170 bpm. Life of musician in new york is DNB!
awesome, thx for taking the time to put this together and for sharing
That was amazing Adam... Thank you so much for sharing...
Wow so busy! A really cool glimpse into your week, and with killer editing for a vlog on top! Thanks for uploading this Adam, you're one of my favourite content creators on youtube!
Hey man, I've been watching your videos for a few months now and I really enjoy your videos and what you do. As a fellow bassist, I aspire to be in a position supporting myself solely on music much like yourself. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video Adam, very insightful!
Am happy for you dude. Good to see fellow musicians busy, cheers.
Being stuck in an office all day SUCKS ... but honestly, i am very glad i got that Comp Sci degree. :) I played with 3 bands when i lived in NYC and it was a LOT of work for little reward. LA wasn't much better, but at least you could park.
Dude, ur videos inspiring me so much. I really appreciate ur work, thank u!
Love videoes on this topic! More Adam!!
Mad respect man. This was a joy to watch
I am totally amazed about how much value does music have in your place. I could bet my head that in a lot of countries, mine - Chile - included, most of the places and events you gigged (weddings, yoga sessions, restaurants, etc.) just play pre-recorded music for saving money - as bands are seen more as an expense rather than an investment -, and also because of the general view of music as an 'art' -which means 'something that should not be paid for'-.
You use Mainstage! I would love to watch you make some patches, talk about resources you use, or what to do when trying to replicate a sound from scratch. My band just added "Something Just Like This" to our set and while I'm satisfied with the patch I created, I feel like it would be better if I had a better understanding of Alchemy or how to manipulate synths in general.
Awesome! Very thorough. Thanks for sharing.
This is crazy inspiring. Thanks and love from Nairobi kenya
I am amazed that you gig so much on the P bass...w/Effects!! Inspiring!!
really appreciate you sharing this! thank you so much! your videos are so underrated, in my humble opinion :x
Super insightful. Thank you for sharing!
dude, i just discovered your channel an hour ago and i gotta say i'm really digging your content! Keep doing what you're doing bro👊
Love your lessons. Love this one on reality......making good music is hard, making a living at is also hard, and there's a helluva a lot of talented people out there. But You look like you are having fun.
thank you for this! anyone living this life in their home town anywhere can feel a little bit better about the fact that it looks like this EVERYWHERE :D what's different is the local music styles you need to nail and perform sometimes more often than you'd like and of course THE PAY... veery diffrent depending on where you live, meaning it's always a lot or too little for whoever you're talking to from outside of your country, or even outside of your city :)
Adam, your content is among the best music-related content out there, seriously. Keep up the great work you do... everywhere :)
I could make a video with the same title but mines would be just me living in a trash can talking to Big Bird hoping Stevie Wonder might walk by and teach me something.
Hexspa Mines? really?
Thats really how I wanna live my life... I'll be seeing every video like this... Never stop working, never stop studying
Awesome vid! I'm currently on tour with a singer/songwriter in NYC, and we play at the Bitter End on Wednesday! It looks like a fantastic venue. We just played tonight at the Shapeshifter Lab, maybe you've heard of it, theyapparently have some great jazz shows. Anyway, its an honor to play at the same venue as a musician of your caliber. Love your vids, keep em coming!
I think you might be one of my favorite people now. That was quite insightful, awesome video.
This reconfirms a lot for me. Looks like I need to get my hustle on!
HANON!!! love that guy. So key to piano skillz...I would love something like that for bass....
It's kind of the great equalizer that all over the nation we're all playing Uptown Funk and Can't Fight the Feeling in our respective Wedding Band gigs. Man, you do a lot on a lot of different instruments! Kudos for the Maximum Hustle! 👍
Man, I envy your dedication!
I'm happy to see that a colleague has the opportunity to do what he loves the most MUSIC cuz sometimes it's not so easy. Congratulations Adam!!! :D
That hustle man, inspirational!
That was fantastic, thanks! In the city that never sleeps there is a plethora of musical activities.
Just like home! Thanks for the insight.
thanks adam
you're living my dream life
cheers.
Awesome insight. Music life as it has to be.
0:12 The piano solo to "In My Life" by The Beatles lol
LoL this just came up in my recommended videos so I thought it was new. I finished watching and said "Man, his covers band plays a lot of tired stuff!" and then I looked and the video is from 2016. LoL great video man. Love your stuff. Haven't been watching you very long but it's all killer and informative! Thank you!
Great video Adam!
You are such an inspiring musician! Keep rockin! Great work :-)
Haha, true to life!
I did this for about 6 years in Northwest UK. Loving music unconditionally required ;)
Damn! You hustle! I love it
Thanks for this. I'd enjoy seeing more "week in the life of an NYC musician" videos :-)
Sick In My Life keyboard solo there
Amazing video. I couldn't imagine having a life that hectic!
You're so busy, I seriously doubt I could do this. And I would be really lucky and amazed to have such an amazing band at my wedding.
this is actually one of the best videos I watched this week. (i'm a youtube addict so that's a BIG compliment)
Back to work - music life sucks!
So very cool. Best to you.
Awesome video, keep up the hustle!
Great idea for a video! That's the real deal. Kudos
Do you practice photography at all? The fourth shot in is really great! The frame within a frame, the exposure, the bagpipe artist creating depth. It's a cool shot that you don't see in a lot of non photo/film vlogs. It's kind of like the argument for reading music--which I'm now learning to do after a long break from playing bass. Anybody with a camera with auto exposure or even an iPhone can create a compelling photo on accident, but understanding the exposure triangle and composition will help you create photos deliberately rather than just shooting a bunch and keeping the ones that happened to turn out right. Kind of like when you talked about asking yourself if you like a certain note, but having to fumble and search all over for that note due to a lack of understanding. I enjoy the vlogs keep up the good work!
Awesome video Adam! Really inspiring to get an inside look as to what kind of different activities professional musicians do to make a living.
On a different note, could you maybe talk a little bit about movie composition as a profession? (assuming you have some knowledge in that area).
Thanks!
That's very cool! Keep up the good work!
Awesome, dude. You make me want to step up my game 10 fold.
Man this is intense! But seems ultrainteresting at the same time :)
Gotta love the practice sessions at Ultrasound :)
The octave pedal you used on Uptown Funk solved a problem for me :-) Thank you!
You are amazing
Really nice perspective on what it's like to be a full-time musician! It does seem like it can be quite daunting at times, too. I see that being a multi-instrumentalist does help out quite a bit.
Despite an overlap of 5 years (2008-2013) of playing both guitar and violin, guitar has been my primary instrument since I started playing it in 2008. I would love to learn how to play piano/keyboard, though. The theory aspect is great for me, but I think earning another instrument or three besides guitar would be more helpful at possibly finding more avenues as a player.
Another good one! Still the dream.
awesome video!!!
you're the best!
got some serious chops man! props
You are amazing. I'm an amateur musician, this video makes me feel like a total layman.
WORK HARD @ BECOME GREAT
You're awesome!
amazing dude...you should put also how you study at home.I heard some badass bass lines there.
0:15 Beatles, solo from "In My Life"
Great video man!
This was a really great idea for a video.
It looks very and hectic. Thanks for giving us an insight of the job. Do sing sing, BTW?
Uncle Podger I used to work in LA and around Cali. It is hectic beyond belief to make ends meet
Sweet, you actually got a Mesa/Boogie in one of the rehearsal rooms.
i wish i was Adam he has so much fun all the time...
Hi Adam, thanks for the vlog (it nice to see what your professional life is like, this was interesting. Good editing also. More vlogs in the future?). Yoga class with live music, fun ;). It's nice to watch videos made by people who are passionate about what they do :)
Eternal Life at 2:00 love it!
Bobby Whitworth thought I️ was the only one :)
God damn that was an awesome medley of Uptown Funk and Backstreet Boys. Wish there was more.
