- Jackson Tupelo Kayak Review - Best Recreation Kayak?
I'm reviewing the Jackson Kayak - Tupelo, in both the 12.5 & 12.0 models. This is a comprehensive review with a little bonus at the end which highlights a great feature found in the Tupelo that is not common in all recreational kayaks! Check it out . . .

Great review. Thanks for clearly showing the edging quality of this boat. Just bought one of these. Fantastic.
Hey đ Kevin - Thanks for watching and commenting! Sorry for replying so late. I guess buy now, you might have had a chance to try it out (if
you are in a southern state) Hope itâs working well. If you havenât tried it yet, Iâm sure youâll like it as I did!
Seen many videos. You get to what's really needed to hear. Based on your video, I now know what I want in a kayak. Thank you. Great video.
Excellent video. Good info. Thank you so much, you have helped increase my decision to get this Kayak.
I picked up the Tupelo LT this year Love ..your video is great
I like the neat features of this kayak. It is really built for a kayaker. I was leaning toward the Pungo but I am going to have to find and sit in one of these now.
Thank for video..I'm 250 and was looking at this yak.. helps with my decision
The Tupelo is great, very roomy too! If you are a little more advanced in your kayaking and want to go faster and farther in a day - try out the Journey.
looks like a great yak-just shows you to always buy a quality brand to get great features and performance
, great video sure wish you would come up with a price amount
Thank you for the great review! I've been debating on buying one and this just pushed me over! (pun intended lol)
we have purchase 2 both the 12.5 size. they are great kayaks
Good review, I have a Jackson Cuda 12, been thinking about getting the tupelo 12.5.
jay mcgowan Thanks Jay!!!
Nice work...showed the hull detail and rationale. The sit on top: your center of gravity is higher, so need width for stability. The ADVANTAGE of sit on top is that you can go for a swim in warmer water....watch for alligators.
John Stewart thanks for the comments John! I totally agree with you, I have a wilderness tarpon sit on top for the warmer months when I want to go swimming.
Enjoyed your videos! Would enjoy a similar review on the Journey and when you use each boat...trying to decide what to get first for lake paddling!
Jonathan Cullifer - Hi Jonathan! I started out with two Tupelo kayaks after selling my two sit on top 14â kayaks. I thoroughly enjoyed the Tupeloâs. My purpose of moving from the SOTâs to the Tupeloâs were to get something that was lighter to carry and faster and more wind resistant. After about a year, I sold the Tupeloâs and bought two Jackson Journeyâs. I would have loved to keep all 4 kayaks but donât have the room. Right now, the Journey is my sweet spot, but I really do like the Tupeloâs too! Will be doing a review on the Journeyâs soon! What type of kayak do you paddle?
I don't yet, hopefully this summer!
I want one!!!!
Think I might buy it after seeing your video.
darwin325
Thatâs great to hear Darwin! Stay safe on the water and paddle on!
Just got a 12.5 today
Congratulations, you will love it! Great kayak! Safe adventuring out there.
Hey sir, well done! Now Iâm a subscriber.
Emanuel B - Thanks Emanuel! Safe paddling out there!
Kayak Cliff any plans on kayak camping and gear reviews?
I'm 6'2 240 and sat in the 12ft version which was very comfortable. Just curious your thoughts on which one for my size?
greg E Hi Greg, I am 6 foot 185 and I am much more comfortable in the 12â5â model. I can fit inside the 12 foot, but there is not enough deck height for me to position my feet properly. I have to have them sideways and they do not fit right. I also like to have the extra weight carrying capacity for camping, coolers etc.
thanks so much for such an informative video. trying to decide where to go post 14.5 liquidlogic inuit. wanting something lighter, shorter and roomier. i'm 6'1" 150pds. do you think the tupelo 12.5 would have room for me and a dog? as i understand it, the tupelo replaced the ibis?
Allison Gower - I think the Tupelo 12.5 (not the 12.0) might be the right boat for you. You could also look at the Wilderness Systems Pungo 12.
Most kayak retailers that sell these boats will let you try before you buy - I recommend doing that.
Sell your Inuit on Craigslist.
Safe paddling!
thanks so much cliff. you seem like such a good-natured person, really appreciate your stylings. i found a good deal on a 2018 12.5 on craigslist so may try it and if it's not the right boat for me, sell her to another paddler. seems like she's a fast boat with manuverability and stealth. i loved my liquidlogic inuit with all my heart, so it's going to be a tough shoe or hull to fill. :)
Allison Gower
I think you will have plenty of room depending on the size of the dog. I have a 15 pound Yorky that fits fine.
great video
Thanks Yakman, smooth paddling! Where are you out of?
Great boats but better for fishing with the frame seat that sits up higher. Not great for tour type paddling. A seat such as the Pungo or Tsunami is much more adjustable to get that dialed in one with the boat paddling experience that makes a sit in boat a joy to paddle all day long.
I could not agree with you more! I did like the Tupelo, but ended up selling both of mine and purchasing two Jackson Journey touring kayaks.
I bought the 12.5 because of this video
Thatâs great, enjoy your new kayak - Jackson makes some great boats. Safe paddling!
Check out My 12.5 Tupelo in action! Great boat!!!
What is your experience with this in shallow rivers class 1 and 2?
ranmangolf - I have only used it on flat water, but I think it would do fine on class 1. Get a spray skirt for class 2 maybe....
The size can be tricky in tight spots, it requires more thinking ahead and good positioning to stay out of trouble!
