Ralph Fiennes deserves more Oscar love! Not only excellent in The Grand Budapest Hotel but also in The Menu.
I loved “The Menu”. The chemistry that he and Anya had was astounding. I would love to see them on screen again.
So happy you mentioned Daniel Craig in Queer and Angelina Jolie in Maria. Very curious to see how these 2 performances turn out. Another fun video, Brian. I also wonder whether Civil War & The Fall Guy could be better received by the Academy than we think too?
Ralph Fiennes actually has 2 Nominations, not only for Schindler’s List but also for The English Patient
To be fair, who remembers The English Patient?
@@samuelbarber6177truth!😅
He definitely should have at least three. It's insane he didn't get a supporting actor nom for In Bruges.
@@samuelbarber6177 Juliet Binoche
@@samuelbarber6177 I do, it's a beautiful movie
I love how he erased ”The English Patient” from Oscar history
😂😂😂 👍🏻
Oops! that's right...I sort of did the same thing.
Should have been Fargo
Wow, the acting categories seem stacked again this year!
Hi, Brian. I'm French and that's exactly how you pronounce the word 'Deux' . It's more accurate to pronounce it like that, than it is when you guys pronounce it as you pronounce the word 'do'. But hey, as a rule, we French people are the people that butcher everybody else's languages, so let's not judge others to harshly:)
What about the word Follies?
I mean Folie🤣
@@davidao2551 well the pronunciation for the first part of the word would be the same as when you guys say 'foe':) And the last part of the word is pronounced in the same way as the words that end up with 'lly' in English. So you pronounce it just like you would the end of the word 'really':)
I could see Austin Butler getting nominated for The Bikeriders over Dune Part 2
But that's a lead perfomance
Someone gets it. I don't think he gets in for Dune 2, Bardem is ahead
Yeah, but the Academy likes transformative roles. Feyd is more of a total transformation than Benny.
And I don't think Benny has a lot of lines.
Denis Villeneuve Best Director🖤☝️💛
Recently, Searchlight Pictures announced that Marielle Heller's new movie "Nightbitch" starring Amy Adams is being switched from a Hulu release to a theatrical release for December. Searchlight Pictures is an amazing production company for award contender and Heller is an underrated filmmaker in which two of her actors, Melissa McCarthy and Tom Hanks earned Oscar nominations for each of Heller's different movie. If "Nightbitch" turns out to be good, could this put Amy back in the Oscar conversation and possibly win her long overdue trophy? Guess we'll find out soon
i love Marielle and i love Amy, but Nightbitch does not read at all like an Oscar contender other than its release date... i HOPE it gives Amy another nom
I hope so. I would be here for an Amy Adams' Oscar win!
praying so hard for this
I think whenever Yorgos Lanthimos' new movie "Kinds of Kindness" comes out it could be a contender
I love Javier Bardem in Dune II! He should get a Supporting Actor Nom!
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
The Piano Lesson is my favorite of August Wilson's Century Cycle. I hope SLJ knocks it out of the park.
the acting nom for Dune II should be Zendaya in supporting actress!
Honestly wouldn't mind it, but I think Chalamet is worthiest 🤴
@OmkarDunghav- so you're saying she did a great job for what the role required?
I’m shocked Kinds of Kindness didn’t receive any mention here, considering it’s a film by an Oscar-darling director and is distributed by Searchlight. I’m personally not sure about its awards prospects but figured it would get a mention! Love the video as always though 👏
Native french speaker here, your "folie à deux" was very nice.
And we don't care how early this is. I am hereeeeee livinggggg!!!
Thanks Brian!
you should do a reaction video to your oscar predictions from last year
Michael Keaton deserves recognition for Knox Goes Away & Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He was overlooked in 1988 when he was in Clean & Sober and Beetlejuice. The guy deserves an Oscar already.
Hey, my friend Paolo worked on Conclave!
Wicked part 1 is probably getting into best production design, best costumes, and best makeup and hairstyling at least
Thoughts on Challengers? It's Luca Guadagnino.
Call Me By Your Name was nominated for Best Picture, Timothee Chalamet was nominated for Best Actor, and it won Adapted Screenplay.
Any thoughts for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, or acting noms (Zendaya, Mike Faist, or Josh O'Connor)?
Personally, I think Monkey Man has a chance to get some awards recognitions. It has its issues but it is a phenomenal film that Dev Patel truly shined as a visionary. I would be very upset if it didn't get anything. To me, its a Best Picture contender.
It's a good movie but it's not the type of movie the academy would choose for best picture. No James Bond movie or John Wick has ever been nominated for best picture
My early prediction is that Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone get underestimated once again.
Teaser was 🔥🔥🔥
i have a lot of hope that what is sure to be another tour de force performance from emma will be too undeniable to shut out of best actress due to the academy's bias against anthologies
She’s not winning again
@@RodneyDollar i don't think she will for a number of non-merit based reasons but i'm saying if she gives the same caliber of performance she did in poor things, which i have no doubt she will as she builds on every performance, she'd earn it.
@@emmellas Yes, she always gives amazing performances. I also thought she was spectacular in Cruella (my favorite performance of that year), but that was in a Disney movie so no one cared.
Brian! Ralph was nominated for English patient obv man
Just a shout out to Hard Truths by Mike Leigh and a possible Best Actress nomination for Marianne Jean-Baptiste. She is adept at portraying truly lived-in performances (like in Secrets & Lies) and it will be a nice return to Oscar nomination especially since this might be Mike Leigh's last film.
Brian, another film you should keep your eye on is Pedro Almodavar's English language feature debut "The Room Next Door" which he is currently shooting with Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. All three are Oscar winners. Hopefully, juicy roles. It's already got North American distribution by Sony Classics. Haven't heard if the movie comes out this year.
If it is released this year, Pedro will be in it for sure!
Okay, but what do we think about Yorgos’ Kinds of Kindness?
I know anthologies doesn’t do well, but it’s Yorgos and the cast is fantastic ❤
Yes, the arguments for why it doesn't stand a chance are exactly the same as the arguments as to why Poor Things suposedly didn't stand a chance last year (wrong type of movie + wrong release date). I don't know if it will end up being an awards player, but after the succes of The Favourite and Poor Things I wouldn't dismiss the team of Yorgos and Emma so easily.
Never too early for me! On Board with Ronan, Gaga and Culkin. Would love to see Carol Kane get in it some how for "Between the Temples" but I know thats probably unlikely but she is so underrated and I adore her!
Last night I just watched Origin. Thoughts because that film broke me and I’d like to see it recognized in next years awards season.
Another thing about Conclave, it’s also a novel adaptation, and the Oscars love those, in general.
I’m thinking Nosferatu could be a big player. Coming out in December, directed by Robert Eggers, classic source material. I’m also wondering about Alto Knights. A biopic film directed by Barry Levinson starring Robert De Niro in a dual role as two gangsters. It could be something.
You should put there Kinds of Kindess by Yorgos Lanthimos, Queer, Nosferatu, The Piano Lesson and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (I really hope this sequel will be on the same great level with the one from 2015).
Kinds of kindness?!
Can you do the Best Picture 2000 win of American Beauty? (I think it should have won, but I know there's controversy over the win).
Steve McQueen HAS won an Oscar as producer. So no overdue factor for him.
What will be this year's Past Lives, Poor Things, and Anatomy of a Fall -- powerful stories with a complex woman at their center? This list includes some interesting-sounding movies -- I love Dune Part 2, and I'm intrigued by Sing Sing, The Nickel Boys, and Piano Lesson -- but with the exception of Blitz, they sound very guy-centric. Yes, I know Folie a Deux has Lady Gaga in it, but where female characters are concerned, I wouldn't trust Todd Phillips further than I could throw Mount Rushmore.
Yes, I know, a good movie is a good movie, but it's nice when we get films like Lives, Things, and Fall.
Thanks so much, Brian. Your video has given me something to look forward to, especially, "The Apprentice" and "Blitz."
I personally think that we need to pay attention to the horror movies. We have HUGE Oscar winners starring in and directing horror movie classics like Frankenstein and the Bride. Then you got Nosferatu, which I think is gonna be a makeup and techs dark horse. Normally, I get it. The academy doesn’t like horror. The thing with THIS year is that these movies are adaptations of extremely popular/well known Hollywood classics. You got Guillermo Del Toro and Maggie Gyllenhaal both doing movies that require heavy prosthetics, they’re both probably going to be artistic character studies, etc..
Nobody is really predicting any of these to do well. But I think this is going to be the year that horror movies might manage to sneak into the Oscar’s.
Tuesday must also be a contender, the trailer was allready so good that it made me emotional.
Brian was one of two CZcamsrs that actually had a brain and predicted the overperformance of Poor Things. In him I trust. We both predicted Emma would win. :) As for Dune 2, I believe it's gonna be a big flick at the Oscars, I do believe Denis will get in Director. Now, the question is if the film has a lot of passion an actor might just coatail a nomination. My guess, maybe Bardem. He was sort of the big comedic relief in the film, but also has a very emotional scene which smells Oscars, plus he's an Academy darling.
Steve McQueen is not African-American btw
The only way Butler gets in for Dune 2 is if that field is weak this year. I don't think his performance is memorable enough to suddenly be taken seriously in the fall. Ryan Gosling stayed for Barbie because he was ALWAYS in the conversation when people talked about that movie.
I think he was great but not at all award worthy, hell I think sting played the role better still 😂....
Don't know why I put the laughing face I've written it now and only just realised I believe it
I agree. The going equivalent is Bardem.
I think Francis Ford Coppla made a film after Bram Stokers Dracula, like The Rainmaker?
Yes but it didn't get nominated for anything, did it? :) Between The Rainmaker and Megalopolis there has also been Youth Without Youth in '07 or' 09 and Twixt in 2012.
@@Bobmacca64 And "Tetro" (2009) and "Distant vision" (2016).
It’s fun to watch this in the moment now knowing in 10 months we’ll easily be able to rule out some of these. A lot of fun!
Samuel L Jackson played the John David Washington role in its original run. He’s definitely winning supporting actor.
I’m rooting for Dev Patel and Monkey Man!
what about kinds of kindness??
Would LOVE to see Steve McQueen get a directing nomination (and possibly win!) He's brilliant & all of his films have been stellar.
I must politely point out though, he is not American. He's British, so referring to him as an "African American" isn't accurate.
Great video as always! I will keep these films in mind throughout the year.
That would be really cool, because he would be the first ever black director to win!
He already has an oscar for best picture for 12 Years a Slave and a director nomination for that too.
Thats what i am rooting for doubt Denis would win for a sequel
Too soon! But it will be fun to see your follow-up video 10 months from now showing where you hit the nail on the head and where you were overwhelmingly wrong with your predictions. 😂
Does anyone know if Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist is coming out this year? It could be interesting to see 2 movies this year centered around visionary architects.
I’m seeing Sing Sing tomorrow at the Miami Film Festival. I have it winning picture, so we’ll see how it goes!
Update?
@@marjaiiii it was very good!! I still have it winning best picture. As long as enough people see it there’s no way it won’t win. I even got to watch it with a few of the cast members who had never seen it before!
I have been reading Conclave recently. More of a physiological drama than an action thriller. I am feeling this has a lot of potential
"Horizon" is Kevin Costner's two-part western that's due out this summer. Not sure how the Academy feels about Costner, but it should pick up some tech nominations at least...maybe cinematography? I'm also counting on "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" to be a contender for production design, costumes, makeup and maybe special effects nominations. And how about David Egger's "Nosferatu", or Jason Reitman's "SNL 1975"?
The movie that I'm hoping will be great enough for awards attention is "Here" from Robert Zemeckis. Bobby Z has been a longtime favorite of mine, despite his below-standards output recently. Zemeckis has heaps of talent, and "Here" sounds like a project with potential to be something special. Plus, it's a reunion between Forrest and Jenny...if they share any scenes together (They might not, since the story involves a single room that's used for many purposes by many people over the course of many years.).
Do you mean Lady Chatterley's Lover that Emma Corrin was in?
@@BaileeWalsh Oh...oops.
Costner can redeem himself after several nominations of Razzies. He can have that Dances With Wolves hype to have that type of nominations.
Go Ronan of those picks!
McQueen would be a perfect winner hopefully he wins it
The Piano Lesson is really a family affair with John David Washington in the cast, Malcolm Washington directing and Denzel Washington as a producer. On that note Samuel L Jackson probably had a narrative behind him and if this film adaptation is well received and his performance stands out in a big way then he might be the front runner for best actor.
Colman Domingo getting his second consecutive nomination is possible and if he stays in the conversation long enough he might get his second nomination
"Fallie a deux".
Follie as in Broadway's Follies😂😂
Steve McQueen is an amazing director. Small Axe was amazing
What about Cillian Murphy in Small Things like These based on Claire Keegan’s novel?
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon produced the film via their production company Artists Equity.
It got rave reviews, and the Berlina film festival
My Top 10 are Sing Sing, Dune 2, Blitz, Piano Lesson, Nickel Boys, A Real Pain, Conclave, Here, Gladiator II, and Those Who Find Me
What about kind of kindness?
There is always an International Film in contention for Best Picture. I'm wondering what it will be.
I don't get why people are trying to manifest an Austin Butler nomination for Dune pt 2. It's just not a very complex or well developed character and there isn't much there. And no doubt the supporting actor category is going to ne ridiculously stacked, especially since they like to nominate co-leads of movies in that category.
The only Dune cast member who really deserves a nomination is Chalamet, and even he might not get nominated. But if he's not, why would you nominate Butler?
Dune will get into the tech categories.
And Picture, just like the first.
Javier Bardem should be the one nominated for best supporting actor
What about Jessica Lange for “ long day journey into night” “Places, Please” ?
Joaquin Phoenix will make history, win the Oscar again for the same role
Im so excited for Joker. The first one was absolutely incredible and its one of my favorite movies. Joaquin Pheonix is just phenomenal I love him in anything. At first I wasnt very excited and not being a huge fan of sequels or remakes I wished they had just left it. But the more I hear about it Ive changed my opinion and cant wait. I hope its not awful but I did sit through Napoleon in the theatre... as I said hes captivating to me 😂😊😘
ALSO if The Apprentice (which I had no idea about until now so thankyou) isnt just a hour or 2 of political and/or personal jabs at Trump and can be factual, non biased and fair, it could be a really good movie. I also havent seen Vice so now I have something to add to my watchlist and that might help me get a feel for the tone of what Apprentice might have. Even if I wasnt a supporter I wouldn't want to watch a movie that cast someone in a negative light because of the creators personal view and opinion.
What about Wicked Part 1, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo?
No Yorgos Lanthimos though? And no Gladiator 2?
I definitely think that your Yorgos Lanthimos’ next movie, kinds of kindness, is going to be up for a bunch of awards. It also stars, Emma Stone, and Willem deFoe again. I also think that Kingsley Ben Adir is going to be up for best actor for Bob Marley One Love
Dune 2 should be in all of the acting categories. I hope it sweeps.
Joker: Folie À Deux is a great contender!
Dont count out John M Chu’s Wicked Part 1, cynthia erivo and ariana grande will be singing LIVE, lots of practical effects, all star broadway cast, its for sure going to be this years Barbie!
Silence of the Lambs came out in February
If A. Butler is getting nom for being on screen only 20 min, then Ferguson and Chalamet deserve to be nominated too, their characters did way more in the movie
JDW is the lead of Piano Lesson and those who saw it on Broadway say Sam Jackson's character is Supporting. But lots put him as a frontrunner in Supporting Actor so it might happen. Ray Fisher seems to be heavily praised from Broadway so if he's good in the film version he could get along with it
Slight correction, McQueen is British not American! But if he wins Director he would be the first black winner in general
For Sing Sing, Clarence Maclin seems to be the most praised Supporting actor and if the movie overperforms maybe Paul Raci can go along with it
I do not think Megalopolis would be huge because I think it's more of a Babylon/Saltburn type of movie, but then again Coppola is a huge name so he could elevate the movie through name alone. Granted he has a couple of controversial people like Jon Voight and Shia LaBeouf in the cast so idk if that'll affect the movie
I saw the play with SLJ on Broadway. He's def supporting
Javier Bardem has a better chance than Butler
According to who? And why? Because Javier had more screen-time?
Butler's character had way more impact on pop culture. And was considered the standout by 80% of critics. The Academy takes impact into account.
80% critics? You are funny. He may be the most unoriginal actor I've seen. Plus that character doesn't have depth. If Ralph Fines couldn't get for Voldemort he wouldn't. Though I think Timothée Chalamet not only can get nominated but has a great chance of winning.
my Oscars 2025 Picture (ridiculously early & fun) predictions
top 10:
Dune: Part Two
Monkey Man
Civil War
Sing Sing
A Real Pain
Dìdi
The Piano Lesson
Nosferatu
Joker: Folie À Deux
Megalopolis
next-in-line
Blitz
Wolfs
La Chimera
Maria
The Lord Of The Rings: The War Of The Rohirrim
Long Day's Journey Into Night
The Nickel Boys
Here
The Apprentice
Challengers
other contenders:
The End
Flint Strong
Thelma
Exhibiting Forgiveness
Conclave
Inside Out 2
Small Things Like These
Furiosa ?
Angelina Jolie in ‘Maria’ will be exciting to see!
Angelina Jolie Maria might be the one for lead actress
If Robert Zemeckis' "Here" is released this year, reprising the starring pair from "Forrest Gump," I have the still slight impression that it could be Zemeckis' Oscar comeback.
Rebecca Ferguson portrayal of Lady Jessica was spellbound. She would be the one nominated for acting in Dune 2.
It will be a cold day in hell if Timothy ever gets nominated
Have you seen Call Me by Your Name?!
No Wicked?
Wicked vs Joker? Musical contenders?
Glenn Close in The Summer Book
my predictions nominations for Dune: Part Two are
Picture
Director (Denis Villeneuve)
Supporting Actress (Rebecca Ferguson)
Supporting Actor(s) (Austin Butler & Javier Bardem)
Cinematography
Adapted Screenplay
Production Design
Film Editing
Sound
Costume Design
I've got the same just with original score aswell
Sam is cast because this is coming off the recent Broadway revival and those actors got first dibs. Danielle Brooks couldn't reprise her role so that's why Danielle Deadwyler is in the movie.
Megalopolis gives me major A.I. vibes.
My prediction is that Mia goth with be nominated for best actress for x, pearl, and maxxxine. I think they didn’t nominate her for pearl because they wanted to save it, so that they could nominate someone for 3 movies. Idk tho. Also long legs has to be nominated
Deadpool and wolverine will domimate at visuals.
Maybe even be great as black panther.
Possible oscar nominations are:
- best visual effects
- best original score
- best original/adapted screenplay
- best costumes
Also in contender:
- best cimenatography
- best film editing
- best production design
- best director
- best pictures
Lol 🤣 Dune 2 has that locked.
@@joser1853 maybe, but spiderman 2 beat harry potter in visuals
😮
@@Grand_Master12312 Lol, what is that comparison 🤣
Yeah, if Denzel was in The Piano Lesson that would probably be too gimmicky for an awards hopeful movie.
Bob Marley: One Love
Javier Bardem is Dune 2's best chance for an acting nom.
Oscars 2025:🤡💜☝️🖤💛
Joker II vs Dune Part II vs ????.
Joker 1 was ok. Joaquin was good. Joker musical? Doesnt appeal to me.
I wished A24 would've promoted The Iron Claw. Ralph Fiennes yes!
Hard to see anything beating DUNE Part 2 for Best Picture
💀
Don't forgert Wicked!
I'm predicting Jennifer Lopez getting nominated for Kiss of the Spider Woman.
