Hell, I've used your videos for everything I've done to my 1090. Thanks again! They state they are for the single cylinder bikes but they fit our LC8's no issue. New O-rings - there's one on the tensioner and one one the cap if I'm remembering right? - in with them and as I say just fit to 4mm of play at TDC. I have a video on me doing it on my page. Slightly loose is better than too tight. Would recommend a touch of sealant on the front on because of the downward angle. Mine is weeping a DOT of oil after .. 6k miles or so. No big issue just FYI

    • @2WR
      @2WR  Před 2 lety

      Gonna be tough to answer without some additional information...1) What do you mean by "lost the timing"? 2) Which cylinder?
      To get the timing back you can turn over the engine, insure you're not TDC on the opposite cylinder and then check that the notch of the crank shaft is visible. If you're not TDC on the opposite cylinder and the notch of the crankshaft is visible, then take a screwdriver on the cylinder you're working on and make sure the piston is all the way up. If all 3 check out, you're TDC.

    Hello Mario. First of all thank you for your videos!!
    I have a problem on my KTM 1190 Adv. 2014 with 90,000km. Air pressure comes out through the metal tubes of the SAS. If I cover them I have great pressure in the oil and it comes out through the adjustment covers. Do you know what it can be? The exhaust valve setting is at 0.20.
    Thank you very very much

    • @2WR
      @2WR  Před 2 lety

      First, the exhaust valve is too tight; should be .25-.30mm. I'm a bit confused. Do you have the the hose to the SAS membrane cover removed? I'm not sure how you'd know there's air pressure coming out otherwise.

    • @jaumee.echesaladie9481
      @jaumee.echesaladie9481 Před 2 lety

      @@2WR Thank you very much for your quick response. I removed the hoses and with the engine running air comes out through the metal tubes of the membranes. It is very rare, engine oil came out of the valve cover gasket, when disconnecting the sas hoses no oil comes out. I do not understand. You have those membranes covered and the pressure from there has to go through the exhaust. In my engine it seems that it goes up through the valve seal towards the oil, I don't know if I'm wrong. With your engine running, air comes out of the membranes?

    • @2WR
      @2WR  Před 2 lety

      I have block off plates installed on mine which seal off the membranes. If you’ve got the hoses disconnected you need to install block offs. You’ve essentially left the SAS open which is what’s causing the issue you’re experiencing. You’re also opening up your engine to damage (Tho not a super high risk) because you have an open port into the cylinder.

    Could you help me. I have one KTM Adventure 1190, 2014 with 9500 miles on it. When she is hot, after run 50 minutes does not want to start. I changed the battery, and the issues continue. The technician installed the scanner and doesn't said nothing . Do you have any idea what would be the problem? Please let me know if you have any idea. I'm very disappointed with my bike. Thank you so much.

    I think you busted the CCT when you collapsed it the first time with the vise. The loud "click" when you compressed it broke the internal ratchet mechanism. Not sure how your "buddy" determined that your CCT was "worn" out by looking at it or trying to release it the wrong way. Has he got some kind of 6th sense? Please tell us how this was determined so we can all learn. Also, releasing the installed tensioner with a screwdriver from inside the chain galley is in no way an approved method and I can only see badness from doing this (gouged gasket surfaces, etc.). Gotta use a rod/Allen key from the tensioner side, as shown in the manual and all other videos on the subject.

    • @2WR
      @2WR  Před 2 lety +1

      Scott, while aftermarket cam chain tensioners like Dirt Tricks are hydraulic with and internal ratchet system, the stock cam chain tensioners are hydraulic oil pressure only. So while your theory would be correct if it was aftermarket it falls short in this case. As for my “buddy” he’s built multiple national championship winning engines over the last 20 years so I’ll follow his advice over someone I don’t know. You’re more than welcome to check out the couple of 2 Wheeled Rider Podcasts he’s been featured on. His number is on the show notes if you have questions for him. (Look for John Ross)

      @@2WR I know how the DT and OEM tensioners work. The DT is NOT designed for engines larger than 500cc (despite its sellers saying so. I called them and they could not answer any of the questions I posed below) exactly for the reason you state - it's a ratchet system and it will not correctly allow for needed slack when the engine gets hot (i.e., it will overtighten when cold and not be able to adjust to the needed longer chain length when the cylinder and head expand away from the crankshaft center line) as well as the bigger engines have longer chains and more stress and relaxation on the chain due to the increased load on the valve train. The DT tensioner was designed for smaller engines and should not be used for anything else. You might do well to watch this video and get back to us: czcams.com/video/0u0lE4hM1ok/video.html As for your buddy, you did not tell us how he determined the tensioner was "bad" which is what I asked for so we could all learn his methods. I could care less about his racing bonefides if he can't explain something in simple and repeatable terms.

    Another good video Mario, I've been using the box wrench on allen / hex wrench for torque for yrs., great tip.
    Good thing you realized, (or found out through help from a bud), that the old tensioner was bad, before you bolted everything back up! Thought I was doing something wrong trying to get the tensioner to engage. Sometimes is nice to have someone else there to confirm you're right and it's the part that's not working. I've been watching a bunch of MotoGP docs lately trying to get my race fix.
