    I love how Ktm transforms lots of people into a mechanic ❤brilliant

    This is hydro-mechanical cam chain tensioner. The oil pressure is what loads up the piston inside the CCT and then maintains the pressure thereby making it maintenance free, basically like hydraulic tappet.

    This was very informative, really appreciate you sharing this. My 2022 model is nice and quiet now. 👍

    Good video, and answered my question about needing to set the motor at TDC before changing the tensioner, some have commented on forums you need to, others not, so some confusion exists.
    Mines not so noisy, but something to bear in mind for the future I feel.

    Some people are saying you should have only done this at TDC but... ask yourself why.. does the engine only start up on TDC? This is a manual cam chain tensioner so I don't see a problem doing it like you did.. plus the fact we literally just watched you do it and it was fine

    i did this on my 2023 norden 901, got the tensioner from Rottweiler in California, ordered on a Monday it was in the bike on the Thursday afternoon, Im in the UK so was impressive. Just took old one out and put new one in as here, silent now.

    Awesome, do more 890R vids as you run into them. My 890 Just went into the shop with a Pulser Coil, a radiator thermostat, and ignition cover gasket, problem, that all started with my battery dying. (according to ktm anyway) They're charging 6 hours of labor for it, which comes out to be about 260USD in labor.

    Did he replace the whole tensioner and added a spring?

    Interesting -- usually with CCT you need to rotate the engine to TDC before removing the tensioners...

    • @etruscanadv3296
      @etruscanadv3296 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@sadeqalbana There is a screw on the right side of the engine at the level of the oil window. You have to rotate counter-clockwise the engine manually until you see a notch.

      Because the chain inside the engine doesn‘t have „slack“ anymore and therefore the rattle sound is gone

  • @danwood4750
    @danwood4750 Před 2 měsíci +1

    If the hydraulic tensioner isnt doing the job its likely down to low oil pressure. Changing the tensioner is a short term fix, and I suspect the low oil pressure will cause your cams to wear prematurely as is the case on thousands of these bikes.

    • @huugie025
      @huugie025 Před měsícem +1

      Not correct in all cases. Since it's hydraulic and designed to work well in operating temperatures, you first need to build the correct oil pressure which is not reached at a cold start. I read that the optimal pressure is at 6000rpm. My 890R is also noisy untill warm, or untill it reached somewhere around that rpm

    • @xli64
      @xli64 Před 23 dny +1

      It depends, if the tensioner is too loose, it has a chance that the cam chain would slip 1-2 tooth while cold start, and damage values in combustion chamber.

    why is that KTM and other manufactures are unable to make simple mechanical devices reliable that have been engineered for very many years and fit them to their machines, this is not cutting edge technology, KTM make very dynamic bikes no argument but their basic engineering choices sometimes really make me scratch my head WTF! also alas on occasion ride in aeroplanes in my bike kit whilst my bike rides on the back of a truck, just aint good enough for me anymore.
