Game 5 of the ‘76 finals rightly is remembered as an all timer. Game 6 of the ‘74 finals is not nearly as well remembered, and that’s a shame. Kareem’s sky hook under pressure was incredible. Also, Havlicek doesn’t get his due in discussions of the greatest players ever. With a healthy Hondo, the Celts would have won it all in ‘73, to go with their ‘74 and ‘76 titles. Incredible clutch performer.
Havlicek should be mentioned on the same level as Bird, I don't know why he's always over looked, in that discussion, he did everything that Bird did and more, only thing he never won was an MVP, but that wasn't his fault, clutch player, played at such a high level, could run the floor non stop with so much energy.

Outstanding footage...there should be a documentary about the 1975-76 NBA and ABA seasons. There was a collision course that would change pro basketball between the leagues forever. Even though the ABA was about to merge and fold, those guys bought a style of play a lot of people across the nation never heard about(or saw). Of course there was TV(even cable TV)but the TV networks refused to give the ABA a contract. The 1975(Colonels) and 76(Nets) ABA champs, challenged the Warriors and Celtics to a game and they refused. When the best from the ABA came over to the NBA and brought their style of play, all of a sudden the NBA became "too black". If you watch on YT the playoff series between of the NBA and ABA(limited coverage) you'll see the difference in the styles of play. I would've loved to have seen a 3 game "mini series" between the 1974 Celtics and the ABA champ Nets.

@@Jiltedin2007 i wouldnt say it was the ONLY reason...it was a FACTOR....but you have to remember something....in 73 the knicks were up 3-1....then the celtics forced a 7th game in Boston WITHOUT havlicek.....i mean i could say the only reason the lakers won in 72 after winning 69 games when they beat the knicks in 5 games was because reed was injured.....i could say the only reason why the bucks won in 71 was they had to play the 42-40 balt bullets instead of the knicks who were 4-1 vs the bucks and owned them....reed was hurt in that bullets series too...Jabbar didnt play in game 6 in 80 vs the sixers and magic had the game of his life...as a ROOKIE... Injuries are part of the game....

But remember, for some reason, Reed always seem to have “Big Wilt” intimidated. Remember Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals after Willis Reed stepped onto the Basketball Court? Wilt Chamberlain played he just saw a ghost. I’ve seen him miss plenty of Easy Shots in that game. Reed had his number. 1970-71, there must’ve been some sort of Magic Happening in Baltimore that season. The Orioles won the World Series and the Colts Winning the Super Bowl. The Bullets just wanted it more and there was A Poster on the Baltimore Civic Center in that NBA Finals that stated: BALTIMORE, CITY OF CHAMPIONS! But you are right about injuries. Even with Cowens and Havlicek entering their declining years, the team remained successful in the 70s.
Especially since they had to win Game 7 of the 1974 Finals on the road.

In the commercial from frame 1:15-1:35 Hondo, Dave Cowens, and Don Nelson are dribbling with ABA balls.
Maybe those balls weren't selling well and the store wanted to push them in the commercial.
