Unpunishable? You’re supposed to punish the false king’s AOE. Thats how you stop it never run away from it.
I thought the same thing when I first faced Artorias - that his buffing was just part of the game. Looks like I still haven't learned my lesson!
Yeah, basically FromSoft is telling the player to "get in and wail on him!“ in almost all instances of a charging AoE!
Came here to say this! But you are forgiven Nightwalk, I really respect (and believe!) that you kept yourself as blind as possible for this runthrough! Will be interesting to see how your opinions shift as you revisit this game.

I really agree with your take on maidan Astraea. Bosses like this just proves that video games are way more than just “toys”. In in my opinion, the best art-form we humans have made since blood paintings on the cave walls. Great stuff
Demon's Souls (2009) is still my favorite From game by a lot. So innovative in so many ways, beautiful art direction, unmatched atmosphere/immersion, a fantastic collection of bosses, and the best level design in the series imo.
Nice to see some real love for the Penetrator. Considering the gank from Hell that leads up to it, an honorable, almost rhythmic duel with this guy is a breath of fresh air.
And with a name like that, how could anyone not love him?

Have you considered doing another community ranking of ER's bosses? Last time, you said that 500 had voted on it; I wonder how much things would've changed after a few more months, and now that your community polls often get 10k votes. Another recommendation, though this one would be REALLY BIG, is doing a community ranking of each Soulsborne games' bosses. With Elden Ring seeming like the last Soulsborne for a while with Armored Core on the way, it might not be a bad way to celebrate the series in this manner.
If I were to do any of these things it would definitely be AFTER the Elden Ring DLC comes out. Thanks for the suggestions!
Going from the brutally aggressive bosses in elden ring it was actually really nice to come back and play demons souls. Yes the boss runs suck massive cojones the majority of the time, but I like the gimmicky style of demons souls roster. I’m also ashamed to admit that on my first finish of the game I almost got killed my true king alant due to my cockiness lol

13:30 no we didn't expect them higher, we expected them lower tbh. The man-eaters are infamous for their dogshit AI even by 2009 standards and the AI hasn't even been improved in the remake.
Edit: also you can hit the false king out of his aoe if you're already close enough to him when he starts his attack, so thankfully his flow doesn't need to be interrupted
Tip for emulator players: Alt-F4 as soon as you die on a boss, but before the game loads, and you'll start out outside the boss room with your items intact and no runback.

Damn, you really got me sold on Dirty Colossus. Now I really want to do Valley of Defilement first to get the full experience.
So i agreed with a lot of these things. Especially the fools idol and the leechmonger.
The depraved chasms was a PAIN (and so was the ritual path) the most annoying locations for a stupid boss.
Also, SPOILER.
if you didn't kill the praying man BEFORE the fools idol, she gets revived and you will have to go through that tedious long run AGAIN.
(it happened 2 times before i figured it out...)
What i did love about some bosses was that they provided a real puzzle or logic to how to kill them.
That is something I would love to see in the other games more.

For me Storm King was #1 along with Allant, but I played remake...
But Maiden Astraea was in bottom tier. She is pretty dull mechanically
I personally think Armored spider is really under rated
If it wasn't for the super long AoE that made me run away forever then I'd be a bigger fan

Fool's Idol?! That's a huge shock to me. But interesting list, love the unique perspective!
@@Nightwalk2 Fool's Idol imo has the best and most eerie atmosphere of any boss in the entire franchise along with Micolash. I love the little gimmicks of the fight, the arena, the music, and the mechanic of the boss respawning if you haven't killed the guy at the top.
Definitely gotta say Flamelurker was my favorite. As simple as it was, I got that rush that my favorite bosses in the series give while fighting this guy.

Old monk is supposed to be done with PvP, I don't think it's really fair to rank the offline version. I think it was an extremely creative and well executed idea, especially for the time
Personally I find these types of PvP bosses kind of lazy imo. Not everybody has a stable internet connection nor are they playing the game during peak hours, so the fight shouldn’t have to rely on you being online for them to be good. Look at Looking Glass Knight from Dark Souls II, while being online enhances the fight it is still pretty good offline as well.
I have never finished a soulsbourne game. Part of me feels like if I do, it will never be the same, I'm afraid to lose that...

You don't have to fight the Maneaters on the bridge. That eliminates a lot of the jank
Storm King in the original DS 7,5/10; Storm King in the remake - best boss fight in the game
Unfortunately other bosses didn't get the same treatment
Since he's a mostly spectacle fight he probably got the best treatment from remake, definitely my favorite boss in the game

Only played the remake, this game is genuinely amazing. Maiden Astraea was one of my favorite boss experiences ever.
in demon souls S tier boss doesn't exist
I would honestly put armored spider at either worst or second worst. It is just the least fun boss to fight. Soooo boring and kindof weirdly hard but for all the wrong reasons such as higher damage than it deserves and sortof wonky hitboxes. It’s also at the end of a reeeaally long level and it might be the most logical direction to go after tower knight. Skipping armored spider means you have to deal with 3-1, 4-1, or 5-1, all of ehich are alot harder at that stage. That part of demons souls in general is just my least favourite stretch.

I personally prefer these bosses over most of the newer bosses. I think it's that they are all unique in some way, even the ones that are similar. For example Leechmonger and Dirty Colossus are similar in the fact that they cover you in creatures, but Leechmonger can steel health while DC can have the bugs removed. Another one is Tower Knight and Adjudicator, Tk's arena is spacious and open while Adjudicator's arena is more cramped and vertical. Compare this to later bosses, a lot of them are just repeats of other bosses. Examples, Demon Firesafe and Stray Demon, Agheel and Greyell, magma wyrms, etc...

It actually didn't look like that to me. When the footage glitches it's every time I try to move my mouse, but it didn't do that on my screen while I was playing. But it was still unplayable.

So basically the opinion is that this game is the weakest soulsborne in terms of bosses and functionality, bosses are janky and clunky, gimmicks aren’t as fun as any other games, and it was released before any of them implying Uber subsequent game has been an improvement? Who would’ve thought. Should’ve known this would be a shit take given he’s looking at comparably to the likes of elden ring…
