Out of Barrens

The California coast is facing a problem with "urchin barrens." These areas have become overrun with urchins that have eaten all the kelp forests. This is bad for everyone - the urchins are starving and can't be harvested for their roe (uni), a delicacy. It's also bad for the ecosystem because the urchins prevent kelp from growing back. Researchers are working with divers to develop a new approach to solve this problem. Watch the video to find out how!
