Couple of suggestions from an old man. For blizzard camping find a space in the trees where you aren't directly under them, but very close. That will keep snow accumulation to a minimum. We also put down a bed of branches when we camped in the open. I never really used a tent, just a a staked up tarp. The branches we covered with a horse blanket, and a 'hack' I learned as a teen was to use blow-up pool mattresses to with another horse blanket on top. As for sleeping bags I still have a Korean Era winter down filled mummy with an inner and outer liner. It's lasted since the 1980's. As for your camp stove, find a $5 simmer plate it keep the direct heat off of cheap camping cookware. You can wrap a steak up in tin foil with potatoes, carrots and onions with some herbs and spices and cook it directly on the simmer plate or coals in a fire pit. Tonight, in my very well insulated tiny off-grid cabin it's about -10 degrees outside. I know a little about staying warm. well, my old dog is snoring and I'm gonna read a bit in bed before I drift off. Really enjoyed your video. Godspeed & bless, David Hanna

I'm not sure what you watched but nobody in my unit prayed every time we ate. We probably should have but sometimes people in the military conduct themselves in ways that are not the normal religious....
Why? We have the Keys and Miami and they are every bit as hot and muggy as anywhere in S America. And just as fun.

You must have had 2.5 to 3 feet of snow to dig out. Carry an Ace Bandage w/ you. Never know. Pulling that sled requires leg power. If u get hurt on lower extremities, bandage might be enough support to aid your departure. Just a thought. Don't know how you feel about it, but do you know that you spent ⅓of the total vid shoveling snow? Well edited considering you stayed inside. Glad you took the insulated tent. Be safe. God bless.

Never used metal stakes before in winter snow camping. I use about a 8-10-inch branch that might be an inch or more in diamiter. I wrap the guide rope around the branch, then dig a hole and bury the stick sideways. It set up in a few minutes and provides a very secure anchor.

Man, you have a great personality, and I was laughing hard when you were tapping down the snow and the step, that is over the top. This is way more work than I would want to go through for one night. I see other people did give you a few ideas but you don't have to be just like them. Tents and camping is a lot of fun.
Chili was a good choice for a meal. I like to add a baked potato or two cut up into little slices into the chili. The baked potatoes can be baked and made before you get to site and then just slice and drop in. Stretches the chili flavoring and ingredients a bit more.

Cool video! Really liked the air insulated tent. Two other suggestions on heating up the tent, in a safer way, that you might want to try out on another trip:
1 - Leave the snow piling up around the tent and maybe even put it on the tent after setting it up. The snow will also act as another insulating layer.
2 - Hot water bottles, rather than the candle lantern. A hot bottle in the sleeping bag seems to be the way a lot of others go with.

@@BaumOutdoors Yes, my son uses a hot water bottle camping. Also, get a removable/washable soft/furry cover for it. I am already looking to buy one for my other son.
Hot water bottles only last for an hour in really cold Temps, then that bottle becomes your worst enemy..learn how to increase the R value, sleep in morano wool long John's, wear wool socks and gloves, keep a hat on when you sleep, I've slept in the mountains when it was 15 degrees out, also used a tarp pitched in an open A- frame set up with the cold air coming through relying only on my sleeping bag and my sleeping pad ..I slept like a baby, my friend on the other hand woke up freezing, he was using a tent which produced condensation. I'm not a fan of tents because of this ..condensation can kill you
@@gimmedahhcookies4341 If you are using a water bottle inside your sleeping bag and it goes from near boiling at the start to frozen while in your bag, then you yourself are probably dead from hypothermia. There's no world where you are comfortably warm inside the bag but your bottle freezes. A quality thermal bottle and quality winter bag will retain that warmth from the water and your own body heat forever.

I would not recommend digging a hole to put the tent, two reasons:
1. It gets too cold on the ground. The heat rises.
2. Weather can be unpredictable, you never know how much snow or rain you might get, it would fill the hole or drown you.
With that said you had the best video on winter camping ever!
I am moving to Fargo North Dakota this month. Couple more weeks left. This is what I’ve wanted to do my whole life. Winter camping. Winter survival. And after living in California desert my whole life, not ever seeing that kind of weather and not being able to travel out to experience it. I’m finally able to put those plans into play. Winter camping in North Dakota. Wooohoooo. Can’t wait.

I must enjoy living in deep snow country. I am born and raised 10 miles from the Canadian border in the northwest part of Montana. Up inside the, YAAK VALLEY.
It is considered the most remote part of the entire state. My great grandfather started a logging company here and that’s what we still do but obviously on a much bigger scale.
Then what they had. Draft horses and mules. I love looking at all the old black-and-white pictures. I have of my family at the logging camps.

I so miss exploring. You don’t need much money at all. I’ve worked on scallop boats on the Bay of Fundy and worked on barges on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, worked for UNISEA in Dutch Harbor Alaska and have even joined the army for free travel all while getting paid. You literally have one life. Why not spend your life looking and learning and seeking the one you want to love forever? Yes, you have the work but there are not rules as to how long. Enjoy your life. Learn how to see and do as much as you can. Despite the negative, there’s a beautiful world out there. Experience it or regret it. It’s your choice.

We have done individual "omelettes in a bag" at deer camp for many years. Up to 15 hunters add their own ingredients/spices/hot sauce/whatever to a plastic zip lock & drop it in a large pot of boiling water. If you time it right it comes out looking like an omelette. We used multiple crock pots for chili night to cater to various taste for spiciness. One pot was for habeneros/ghost peppers & other "Oh my God!" ingredients. I used to wear surgical gloves just to handle some of that stuff.
